I don't think it will be as reliable as a fix ADSL line.

I did dis years ago do not put a key password lock leave it open so your ps3 can connect easily or else it will keep failing an asking for a dsn code which can be change on the ps3 easily also..works great put slow keep doppin network.. an takes hours to download

It will uses up your mobile data. So yes it is best if yo have unlimited plan. However if you have a large plan like 5 Gb a month, you still could use it. but make sure you set a quota limit on the phone so that you don't over use it.
