Being an East-ender, I was always fascinated by this route when I first rode it as an 11-year old back in 1962 to my aunt’s place near Marie Curtis park. You have done the route justice with this clip. Good job 👍
Was there any discussion of running streetcars along Queen Street underground for a considerable distance like the Muni Metro in San Francisco, the Subway-Surface lines in Philadelphia, and the Green Line in Boston? 🤔
Hi sorry for the late reply. Yes Toronto did consider running the Queen Streetcar underground and Queen Station has a roughed in Streetcar platform underneath it although it has never been used. You can find out more in my video about the Downtown Relief Line which covers the history of a Streetcar subway under Queen Street. ua-cam.com/video/8hH1BlDeAj8/v-deo.html
22:14 The solution for Dundas West station would be to terminate some 504 King cars ar either Humber Loop or Sunnyside Loop with their service on Roncesvalles Ave. being served by the 507 Long Branch heading for Dundas West.
In the "what if" section I think it could be worth while to discuss a possible extension of the line. With Hurontario LRT being built, a connection to the city of Toronto along Lakeshore Boulevard could be beneficial. I heard it being mentioned with the topic of new fare integration scheme between TTC and neighbouring agencies. If the Long Branch streetcar were to be extended, the existing portions of the line and the extension within Mississauga could be easily separated from the suburban roads and provide reliable LRT level of service from Port Credit to Humber loop with a potential to serve new condo developments in Mimico south of Gardiner and connect to GO Transit there.
With the opening of the Hurontario LRT within the mid-2020s, it would be great if the TTC Streetcar could be extended to Port Credit station via Lakeshore Blvd.
I would love to see the tracks on Lake Shore separated like the tracks on St. Clair West and Spadina. The street is wide enough, and it would improve the reliability of the Queen line.
So disappointing that the idea of giving the streetcar its own right of way west of park lawn is basically dead in the water. The area has immense potential and already has one of the best GO lines running just north of Lakeshore. Also the relatively new idea of extending the line to port credit once again (mentioned in official long term provincial plans) is only plausible if an exclusive right of way and signal priority is established. Otherwise the route would even be worth extending due to the inherent slowness and unreliability of streetcars operating in traffic.
More Streetcar videos (I am over half-way done with this series), and "long-form" videos on the Queen Street Subway/DRL, and the Crosstown Expressway at some point.
Are there going to be any videos about the Toronto Radial Railways in the future?
Just want to say this is a great channel. Thank you for your hard work!
Living in New Toronto I was very thankful they built and maintained this streetcar line. A lot nicer to use than a bus, especially during covid.
The theme of all transit expansion projects in the GTA:
“This doesn’t make sense “
Years later…:
“Why didn’t we build transit earlier?!”

If I am not mistaken this line went down a hill from Queen/King, Roncesvalles intersection ( long before the Gardiner Expressway had been built)

Im so sad that they got rid of the streetcar going into Mississauga😭😭😭

Oops sorry, you did mention that Roncesvalles bridge later in your video and it got torn down for the construction of the Gardiner Expressway.
thank you for continuing what I think you said was a pandemic project.
Make a video of the route between Bingham and Birchmount Loops.
