almost agree with you.. but yeah.. theres nothing wrong with the late 70s & 80s bikes.. my era.. just fit a full carb kits.. do the fork seals & flush them clean.. head stock bearings grease, swing arm bushes & wheel bearings & they'll do another 100k km.. i like those V twins.. they're even more robust than the big singles & MUCH smoother.. sweeeet runners.. AND I think the do better fuel economy than the singles too.

I learnt this trick with my little Yamaha Tw 125, sturdy bike, but here in Italy I found some bad partitions of gas, which rendered cold start up just impossible. If the bike doesn't want to start, lean it all the way to the ground to the left then bring it back up and try to start it again. Some gas escapes the carburetor and directly gets into the chamber... It gets off immediately. You're doing a great job with the channel! Keep it up!

Good to hear you are almost back at home base. If there is a short somewhere in your electrical that is slowly draining the battery. Brake switch? You can disconnect one of your battery poles when you are in the hotel. That will save your battery. Don't forget to reconnect it when you start your day of driving. You will find that as the cam chain stretches the computer will be always trying to advance the timing in order to keep up with the constant missaligning between the crank position sensor and the spark plug coils and the intake and exhaust valve timing. Which will also negatively affect your charging system. Below zero temperatures will reduce the cranking amps on your battery as well. It will get harder and harder to get it started and keep it moving. disconnecting it and bringing it into your warm room overnight will extend its use, if it is on its way out. Just a few tricks, from an old traveller.

Marc. The jump-starter unit you have is filled with capacitors, that charge from even a weak battery............but you have to follow the instructions ! In a strange land, or under cold or muddy condition, it is a challenge to kick-start such a machine by pushing. Maybe you can make a jumper cable with the same gauge wires as the jump-starter, and use some plastic-ties and secure it on the bike. It will be invaluable, if someone with another vehicle is willing to give you a jump...............even a woman !

Hi Mark! listen to my advice, at near zero temperatures, the composition of the mixture of gasoline and air changes, this is a problem for all carbureted motorcycles, and don’t torment the starter and battery, just buy a plastic cleaner for car upholstery, on a cold start, just simultaneously apply a little aerosol to the air filter and Honda starts!

Google/UA-cam/proper maintenance manuals, a basic tool set and you can do almost everything on your own bike (at home).
It really is no rocket science. All the skills you learn from this will make traveling way more pleasant, without the worrying. Just start with simple maintenance and work your way up.

That engine works on its own, not in the mood. I have similar problems when it is cold with my BMW f 650. Two coils, two spark plugs, one cylinder, but with all the persuasion and prayer there is no mercy. Then the idea came to me, I warmed up the coils and carburetors with a hair dryer, and little by little I would catch the rhythm. It’s pretty embarrassing to run a motorcycle in front of spectators like that. But in some cases it arouses sympathy and empathy. I like your travels in the cold and shitty weather, and the way. to which you put up with it all. Let a smile be your umbrella!

@@MarcTravels add to those solutions.. you're running accessories the bike wasn't designed to feed power to.. when you get the cam chain & tensioner done.. look at upgrading the generator stator to a higher capacity one too.. it may be that your charging system is struggling to keep the battery fully charged fighting a colder battery too.. a usb plug with a voltage read out would be a good battery health check while you're riding.. needs to read to one decimal to be useful though.. E10 the 10% ethanol can breakdown old hardened neoprene rubber fuel lines & seal rings in the carb & tank fuel tap.. look at a full carb kit replacement gaskets & seals would be another safety backup to safely allow you to use ethanol fuels.. 92 octane aye.. i would strongly recommend you have your garage test the engines oil pressure while running synthetic oil as another safety check.. it would be a good option if the engine's tolerances are still tight enough for the thinner oil when cold.. maybe a higher capacity oil pump.. .. these engine cases can have the older kick starts fitted in some cases too.. check list's getting awfully long & potentially expensive..
I would suggest seek out an adventure riders club or bike club.. there will be lots of guys that can help you to do all these things yourself.. then you remove all the worries you've had not knowing youre bike.. AND the confidence to know, you can fix it IF.. anything should go wrong on the road.. not to mention reducing a huge cost.. loving your adventures mate, from the warm comfort of my home 🤗.. cheers from NZ

A friendly tip. See if you can get hold of a multimeter, then check for battery drain. It wouldn't hurt for a load test on the battery either. If you need a new 1,don't go lead acid go Gel or something more modern. E10 would not have hurt the Honda. Ok Its not my prefered fuel, it does not last over time. But the occasional tank in tank out won't hurt, especially with you touring. The honda is tough and doesn't have newer tech to let you down. Good effort. I will watch further vids with great interest. Ps. In Australia we add fuel stabilizer if we store fuel for any amount of time.I don't know what the quality of fuel is in your part of the world. Great series of vids my friend. Take care. Hi Marc, after that much of watching your videos. I decided that, clicking noise due to low quality gasoline and one or two valves adjustment or failure itselves that I suppose. If some particles get into the engine by gasoline, it causes of such sound together with valves too . Some times engine able to clean itselves and some times unfortunately not. Since about 1000 km, the clicking noise either so low or none. With higher quality gasoline getting lower comparatively but there is certainly one or two faulty valves existing. You will need to adjust or change the valves at BERLİN . I was having such situation before too. I have changed the valves and after that prefer to use high quality gasoline as possible as which as you are trying to do. Good luck.

Hi Marc. Happy that you got back almost home. As much as I love our Domi, what I can suggest to you (in order to kerp you this bike still running longer) is to travel with a 2 cylinders Honda like Transapl or Africa Twin. And that's just for two simple reasons: you can less wear out the engine in such long distances, and it will give you no injection problems in altitude chances.
No further tips, ...just enjoy the two wheels road ;-))

Hi Marc, just buy a Lithium battery, I have an SSB Powersport Lithium battery, $200 Australian but light as a feather and unbelievable performance. They say you can leave one for one year and keeps it's charge. I've seen it go three months unused in the shed on my old Laverda without losing any charge at all. Also 1kg instead of 10Kg of the old one...

-4 C? In November 1966 I rode 7 miles in +7F (-14C) on a 1965 Honda 305 Dream, then got in the back of an open truck to go deer hunting. We walked up about 1500 feet to a mountain top, working up some sweat, then sat down to wait for a shot. All I wanted to do was start a small fire to warm up. You should have my 2000 ST1100 Pan European for a ride in that kind of weather. It has heated grips and a plug in for a heated vest. So yes, I feel your pain.

@@MarcTravels When you are 17 you do dumb stuff. Also keep in mind I did not have the kind of cold weather gear we have today. In 1979 and 1980 I worked for a Honda dealer 25 miles away. I bought a 1978 CX-500 after trading in my 1969 CB-750 (sandcast) for $900. (Who knew what they would be worth later?). I fitted a Plexifairing by grinding it to match the headlight cowl, so it stopped a lot of wind. I would ride that commute as long as it was 35 degrees F , ( +1 to +2 C) in the morning. By then I had a snowmobile suit that worked well and some good gloves. That bike was so stable, I once went 15 miles of the four lane highway without touching the handlebars once.

In addition you need money to travel as you realize how expensive it is. And then you need reserve, as you never know. All together made that before start a world tour (or even an Europe tour) it is wize to have around 100k EUR budget (for the bike and all expenses). Of course you can start with an old bike and limited budget and struggle but the pleasure of the discover it will be completely different.
