Yes. These are the different aspects or shards of the emperor all speaking at once. The sides of him who sees the primarchs as his sons, the parts the see them as merely tools, the parts that see guilliman’s empire building as a betrayal, the parts that understood his reasoning for doing so. I still subscribe to the old fluff, where the Emperor was born as a result of ritual suicide of hundreds of shamanic psykers. Being made up of hundreds of different individuals with different opinions and viewpoints not only helps to make sense of all the different versions of the Emperor we see, but also makes all of these things true simultaneously.
It goes back to the Emperor biggest flaw of being in love with his idea of humanity rather than what humanity is. And that cognitive dissonance manifesting in how he sees his sons. I think he has genuine love for all of them but his love is out weight by his ambition.

While that probably would’ve worked in the short term of killing Horus and breaking the traitor legions, a fifth chaos god would’ve been more devastating over a long period of time. He casts off his compassion, love and humanity to battle Horus.
at first he saw them as tools similar to how he viewed the thunder warriors. Great assets that can be disposed of if need be. Then he started to care for them. Then Horus came along. So Big E cast out his love for his primarchs and humanity in order to defeat Horus and saw them all as failed tools again. Thus this video. it's a conflict of caring for Guilliman and also seeing him as a tool and potential Horus. I think when Big E/The Starchild returns he'll wipe the slate clean and start fresh. It'll convince him that the primarchs were indeed failed tools with the exception of like The Lion and maybe someone else. ESPECIALLY when he sees Guilliman shacking up with the Eldar.

Spoiler alert Big E casts off a part of himself namely the human, loving, compassionate side of him in order to fight Horus who was pretty much a hollow vessel inhabited by the four entities in the warp. His original plan would’ve birthed a fifth chaos god, he gets talked out of it and chooses the lesser evil between the two.

The warp is basically a realm of emotion and actions and beliefs from real space empower the warp entities - so people not knowing about them drastically reduces their ability to be worshipped and gain power. The emperor was also working on the webway project which would theoretically remove the need to use the warp at all, leaving it as a forgotten relic of the past (eventually).

One of the origin stories for the emperor is that he's the amalgamation of 100 shamans from old earth who committed ritual suicide and melded their souls in the warp to create one "perfect" human psyker.. Maybe in his current state the emperor is having difficulty keeping those souls in a cohesive and coherent form..

I love the way they all write the Emperor's internal psychic monologue when he thinks of his sons. The same thing happens when Sanguinius first meets Emps on Baal.
Has noone consodered that The emperor is honestly just a broken person who feels so singularly hopeless that hes refused to see himself as someone deserving of love? That maybe he actually believe himself to only exist to protect and guide humanity as THEIR LAST TOOL. THEIR LAST HOPE.? Perhaps its literally a case of fact that the emperor realy is a person that is hust ruined by the fact that his soul can handle his lifespan. But his mind struggles to. And it can only find cohesion as viewing itself as nothing more than his own purpose. Perhaps the starchild isnt something he chose to discard. The emperor was a man bearing the task of orchestrating humanity's ascension. Everything he did was in pursuit of this one goal. His sons were his family, but he understood that all of them, himself included, were merely stepping stones on the patch to that perfect future.
I like to focus on the word “choose.” Everything the Emperor was telling him was what Guilliman himself questioned how his father seen him “A son. Not a Son.” In my opinion the Emperor is telling his avenging son that whatever he chooses to believe he is to him he will still be “My last loyal son, my pride, my greatest triumph.”

I think the Emperor is conflicted as his last remaining bit of humanity (at least whatever was left when he either threw or seal his humanity 10,000 years back just to kill Horus), struggles against his other personalities just as he is slowly decaying.

I think that the Emporor does genuinely care for and love Guilliman despite everything he said to the contrary. It's just that his mind has been shattered into so many pieces.
To me this was always how G-Man’s mind would understand the untethered power and understanding of the Emperor. He hears Big-Es words in both a theoretical and practical sense. A son, no a tool. Theoretically the primarchs are sons, and in a practical sense they are just tools. The fact that G-Man continues to try to bring humanity together shows he reconciled this and knows what to do to put humanity forward
Let us remember he cast off his love and care. He even seemed almost emotionless to Horus because of this. The Star Child is likely this large shard of the Emperor. He can and has loved at least some of his sons.
Its important to state the Emperor nearly died putting all his strength to bring many thousands of voices into a single one for a few scant sentences. I think that goes to show just how much he wanted to speak to his son.
With the last book of the horus heresy, they confirmed that the Emperor removed his feelings and emotions, at least the human ones, before confronting Horus. This can be one among many reasons of the incredible coldness that the emperor had towards Guilliman.

For a Warhammer fan this really is sad, the centuries spent on the Golden Throne under constant stress and isolation is breaking the psyche of the Emp. But hes not done yet and if anyone can come back from this its Him. Gulliman can endure.
I heard from someone that the Emperor really assumed it was pretty much all over up until Guilliman walked up to the Golden Throne. And calling himself a thing almost as if he is ashamed in some capacity, that he is just his husk sitting upon a golden chair and he can only communicate through his mind to his son.
This feeling right here is how every time the emperor is present should feel. Hope, dispare, awe and reverence. The sliver of hope hanging is the air by a thread constantly threatening to snap. For the EMPEROR!
Whats makes this even sadder is by remember that line when Big E was talking to Ra Endymian as Big E was flickering into different forms in an instant "When I speak to you, to others. Does my mouth move and make forms of human language? Does a human voice emerge? Or is it merely how human minds process my presence and psychic will" He's so broken that he can't keep himself together and the flood gates of his psychic power open and unleash his immense power.
I really don't understand the confusion around the Emperor speaking all of these thoughts about Guilliman all at the same time. Because we have all of these gesalt thoughts about everyone in OUR OWN lives. Partner, Lover, Cook, Husband/Wife, supporter in my tough times, nagging spouse when I come through the door. It's just the magnitude of the thoughts, and the Emperor's inability to form a coherent thought, that is terrifying.
I do like that he tried to rally his shards into a single coherent thing, and the first thing he said to Roboute when doing so was to call him his son then to call him a tool, then hope. Kind of a way to say “u are my last beloved son, but I need my general if we are to survive.”
To me it sounds as if the emperor is telling Gilman you have two choices you can be my savior or you can be a thief and steal my Empire. I think he's asking for help but he's telling him to choose a path what's all the strength the emperor can muster that's why it's not in full sentences
These aren’t sentences they words spoken by different personalities. The emperor is fragmented. You hear the empathetic human side say my son. To part of him he was just the 13th son. To the emperor of Mankind he was the lord of ultramar. To the hope left in the emperor he is a saviour. To how he perceives the empire of man sees him. Hope. The emperor would see his sons as a whole as a failiure because that plan bought upon his death. His purgatory on the throne in agony as a spectral spectator. His inability to function and fulfil his plan. Then you hear him argue with himself. The human inside him says son. The part of him that sees him as 13 says not a son. A number. The next part of him who saw guiliman as the lord of ultramar says not a number. A tool The emperor is basically schizophrenic at this point. With only himself for company. Perhaps fragmented to share the load of the webway, etc in turn as 1 conciousness was not enough to do it permanently. Not really surprising a higher being godlike status. Who devised a barbaric state of existance for humanity as a lesser evil would see guiliman in a ruthlessly efficient way. As a tool. A man who needs tools or desires to use them has not given up with saving humanity or merely using humanity as a tool stopping the evil the emperor can see leaking through the psychic connection coming.
His father may not trully love him like a son, but he at least told him that it was Guilliman's job to restore the thing they both fought and "died" for. If not our of the love for each other, for the love of humanity.
Now I wonder if one of the reasons for the emperor being a bad father is that he sees and plans too far into the future and therefore has a lacking understanding of how to deal with the small stuff that’s important for parenting?

I still subscribe to the old fluff, where the Emperor was born as a result of ritual suicide of hundreds of shamanic psykers. Being made up of hundreds of different individuals with different opinions and viewpoints not only helps to make sense of all the different versions of the Emperor we see, but also makes all of these things true simultaneously.
It goes back to the Emperor biggest flaw of being in love with his idea of humanity rather than what humanity is. And that cognitive dissonance manifesting in how he sees his sons. I think he has genuine love for all of them but his love is out weight by his ambition.

The warp is basically a realm of emotion and actions and beliefs from real space empower the warp entities - so people not knowing about them drastically reduces their ability to be worshipped and gain power. The emperor was also working on the webway project which would theoretically remove the need to use the warp at all, leaving it as a forgotten relic of the past (eventually).

That maybe he actually believe himself to only exist to protect and guide humanity as THEIR LAST TOOL. THEIR LAST HOPE.? Perhaps its literally a case of fact that the emperor realy is a person that is hust ruined by the fact that his soul can handle his lifespan. But his mind struggles to. And it can only find cohesion as viewing itself as nothing more than his own purpose. Perhaps the starchild isnt something he chose to discard. But literally a spiritual divide caused by his own emotional dissonance and depression.

The emperor was a man bearing the task of orchestrating humanity's ascension. Everything he did was in pursuit of this one goal. His sons were his family, but he understood that all of them, himself included, were merely stepping stones on the patch to that perfect future.

I like to focus on the word “choose.”
Everything the Emperor was telling him was what Guilliman himself questioned how his father seen him “A son. Not a Son.” In my opinion the Emperor is telling his avenging son that whatever he chooses to believe he is to him he will still be “My last loyal son, my pride, my greatest triumph.”
"Not a father. Thing. Thing. Thing. Apotheosis. Victory. Defeat. Choose" the Emperor doesn't fool himself. He doesn't even see himself as human after everything he's done to eliminate the chaos gods. Now he has to decide if he's willing to sacrifice the rest of his own humanity to ascend to true godhood to finally achieve that victory, or if doing so could even still be considered a victory.
I think the Emperor is conflicted as his last remaining bit of humanity (at least whatever was left when he either threw or seal his humanity 10,000 years back just to kill Horus), struggles against his other personalities just as he is slowly decaying.
It seems seating on that throne for the past 10,000 years is finally getting to him.
Clearly the main point is "Thirteen". Which means everyone is a Skaven all along

I think that the Emporor does genuinely care for and love Guilliman despite everything he said to the contrary. It's just that his mind has been shattered into so many pieces.
To me this was always how G-Man’s mind would understand the untethered power and understanding of the Emperor. He hears Big-Es words in both a theoretical and practical sense. A son, no a tool. Theoretically the primarchs are sons, and in a practical sense they are just tools. The fact that G-Man continues to try to bring humanity together shows he reconciled this and knows what to do to put humanity forward
Let us remember he cast off his love and care. He even seemed almost emotionless to Horus because of this. The Star Child is likely this large shard of the Emperor. He can and has loved at least some of his sons.
Its important to state the Emperor nearly died putting all his strength to bring many thousands of voices into a single one for a few scant sentences. I think that goes to show just how much he wanted to speak to his son.

With the last book of the horus heresy, they confirmed that the Emperor removed his feelings and emotions, at least the human ones, before confronting Horus. This can be one among many reasons of the incredible coldness that the emperor had towards Guilliman.

This is oddly comforting/hopeful/dutiful all at once. Armies of marines, just tools, numbers, statistics, wins and losses at the end of the day. But most importantly, hope. Humanity's last hope. A light in the black dark of the universe.

For a Warhammer fan this really is sad, the centuries spent on the Golden Throne under constant stress and isolation is breaking the psyche of the Emp. But hes not done yet and if anyone can come back from this its Him. Gulliman can endure.

I heard from someone that the Emperor really assumed it was pretty much all over up until Guilliman walked up to the Golden Throne. And calling himself a thing almost as if he is ashamed in some capacity, that he is just his husk sitting upon a golden chair and he can only communicate through his mind to his son.

This feeling right here is how every time the emperor is present should feel. Hope, dispare, awe and reverence.

Whats makes this even sadder is by remember that line when Big E was talking to Ra Endymian as Big E was flickering into different forms in an instant "When I speak to you, to others. Does my mouth move and make forms of human language? Does a human voice emerge? Or is it merely how human minds process my presence and psychic will" He's so broken that he can't keep himself together and the flood gates of his psychic power open and unleash his immense power.
I really don't understand the confusion around the Emperor speaking all of these thoughts about Guilliman all at the same time.
Because we have all of these gesalt thoughts about everyone in OUR OWN lives. Partner, Lover, Cook, Husband/Wife, supporter in my tough times, nagging spouse when I come through the door.
It's just the magnitude of the thoughts, and the Emperor's inability to form a coherent thought, that is terrifying.
I do like that he tried to rally his shards into a single coherent thing, and the first thing he said to Roboute when doing so was to call him his son then to call him a tool, then hope. Kind of a way to say “u are my last beloved son, but I need my general if we are to survive.”
To me it sounds as if the emperor is telling Gilman you have two choices you can be my savior or you can be a thief and steal my Empire. I think he's asking for help but he's telling him to choose a path what's all the strength the emperor can muster that's why it's not in full sentences
I love watching these and listening to them. It really makes me want to live back in my childhood but man I wouldn't even know where to start.
These aren’t sentences they words spoken by different personalities. The emperor is fragmented.
You hear the empathetic human side say my son.
To part of him he was just the 13th son.
To the emperor of Mankind he was the lord of ultramar.
To the hope left in the emperor he is a saviour.
To how he perceives the empire of man sees him. Hope.
The emperor would see his sons as a whole as a failiure because that plan bought upon his death. His purgatory on the throne in agony as a spectral spectator. His inability to function and fulfil his plan.
Then you hear him argue with himself. The human inside him says son.
The part of him that sees him as 13 says not a son. A number.
The next part of him who saw guiliman as the lord of ultramar says not a number.

The emperor is basically schizophrenic at this point. With only himself for company. Perhaps fragmented to share the load of the webway, etc in turn as 1 conciousness was not enough to do it permanently.
Not really surprising a higher being godlike status. Who devised a barbaric state of existance for humanity as a lesser evil would see guiliman in a ruthlessly efficient way. As a tool.
A man who needs tools or desires to use them has not given up with saving humanity or merely using humanity as a tool stopping the evil the emperor can see leaking through the psychic connection coming.

His father may not trully love him like a son, but he at least told him that it was Guilliman's job to restore the thing they both fought and "died" for. If not our of the love for each other, for the love of humanity.
Now I wonder if one of the reasons for the emperor being a bad father is that he sees and plans too far into the future and therefore has a lacking understanding of how to deal with the small stuff that’s important for parenting?
At some point it needs to be said that to accomplish the things that needed to be done, one has to dispose of emotion and doing that for so long, maybe he just sees things for what they are, in regards to the level of scale that the Emp. sees things ya know?
