Yeah it's definitely the cheaper keycaps, you could probably fix it by getting some spacebar foam - KBDFans & StupidFish sell some I believe.

you had no problems with the Durock v2 Stabilizers and the aluminum plate fitting together?
You need to push really hard I had the same problem at first but if you push hard enough they will fit together
You should try the PE foam mod next.
