+DarkFilmDirector What you gotta realize that it's not just skill, surviving on 1% health requires the luck to line up as well. The guards do have a small reaction time (everything except the mutants) but still you can't sacrifice time to hide behind corners. Each level would have had on average a quantic ton of resets. Same goes for a lotta unlikely shit that goes down in speedruns. BTW the dodge doesn't GUARANTEE a miss from the guards either, just increases the likelihood. You can be moving back and forth to get the same advantage which is why he keeps doing that too. I don't remember if greater distance means less likely they'll hit you or just less damage they'll deal.
+DarkFilmDirector If I hadn't have seen that 1% spell with my own eyes, I would never have believed it! I'd have chickened-out and gone looking for health.
Specifically what you can't do when looking for record times: it's a lost cause with any detours because you've already done or someone has done a billion runs where you did play more conservative.
One of the most impressive speedruns I have seen. Not only in the movement but also the map awareness and weapon switching that was associated. This was incredible. Very fun to watch
On Episode 5 Level 9 the secret was activated to lure the two chasing guards to open the locked door just a little bit down from it, thus evading the boss battle with Gretel Grosse. I don't know for certain, but it looks like the double BJ glitch happened either because the boss was left alive, or because two enemies were left alive in the victory room with the plans.
My guess would be that due to the player's high speed and diagonal movement, the exit script trigger was able to be activated on two different squares by entering the first immediately beside and subsequently over the boundary into the second one
Just wanted to say that I really appreciated the skill involved. I have played a lot of Wlofenstein 3D over the last few months, and speedrunning with such a simple and unforgiving engine would be brutal. Even little things like gliding through doors quickly and opening doors straight off a diagonal speed run are huge challenges. Well done. Great run!! Enjoyed watching.
This is unreal. Good going dude! I remember the first time I beat all of the levels. It took me like 10 hours with like 25 deaths but I had a freaking blast!
Nah, the Inglorious Basterds speedrun is a 100% kills run, at the very least. They may also map out everything(100% secrets) and steal all the Nazi's shit(100% treasure) just to fuck with them, though.
@@GIGATHEBOT Technically there were scattered Nazis around the globe even after WW2, so it’s most likely the world took enough time to eradicate all of them eventually
episode 2/3 with all the mutants was by far the most fun of all the Wolfenstein episodes. it legitimately scared the crap out of me as a kid because there was no warning or sounds for most of the level and when they started fanning you out it jolted you something awful!
I didn't realize as a kid how much faster you move with the mouse. Also, +DarkFilmDirector mentioned the skill at 2:35. I thought he wasn't talking about the dodging but he actually was. The reason I didn't think this is why he was so impressed is because this ISN'T the impressive part. The impressive part is the fact that he's dodging specifically so that the guard will shoot and hopefully drag a guard over behind the locked door and get him to open it so he can proceed. So, he has to stay alive AND trigger that.
Can someone explain the splice at 24:15? The video is obviously cut as the door doesn't make the sound effect when it's opened. Edit: Same thing happened at 28:59
Gadzooks. Your stamina is exceptional given how badly this game's controls have aged... On E6L3 the door trick takes a very long time. Might it be faster to go to the secret level and kill a Hans with a giant ammo pile?
the first episode is by far the best. sure the others are great but not only you survived 2 levels on 1% health in the first one, in the first couple of levels, those head shots with pistols were just out of this world. I'd love to see you playing CS lol
Lol. It's hilarious that the original DOS version did have enough sound channels to support a bunch of sound effects at one time. This speed run sounds funny.
Wow, a seriously impressive playthrough of this game, you must know every level inside out to play at that kind of speed. You take on the officers on Death Incarnate difficulty like they're nothing, lol!
So it just now dawned on me that this game has the very first usage of a kill cam. By at least a decade before it was used again. Id Software, always ahead of the FPS curve.
This sure as hell beats anything I could do, and I like the use of those door skips! Despite finding a lot of interesting things about this game, I'm glad to see a run of it on SDA now!
First episode was obviously segmented (abuses luck). There's no way 1% health would last unless *NO* shots were ever fired from that moment onward. Still obviously a lot of work to run W3D as a speed run (due to hit scan LoS luck), but... no. 1% health means that ANY hit from any distance would kill the player. 🙂 Well, without serious abuse of luck (as noted).
Hey guys. I have a bug I think. Or I don't know why but I cannoz open that iron door in level in time 19:49. It's just like when I have no key. Can you help me what I can do with it?
With that door, when you fire the enemies behind the silver/gold door will be alerted and will automatically open the door because they heard you firing, so sometimes the gold/silver key isn't required, I hope that helped, sorry for late three year reply
greatguy200 There are 6 episodes in Wolfenstein 3D: The original trilogy, plus the "nocturnal missions" (prequel trilogy).
