New video "Captain Jack Harkness | STORY OF MY LIFE" - ua-cam.com/video/qe0A8cnYbyQ/v-deo.html
Jack is the only companion who can really understand the doctor.
He knows the pain of loneliness
He's a man full of love and humanity
And he understands the sadness of losing someone he loves, so he can understand and sympathize with the Doctor more than anyone else.
Even if everyone else leaves the Doctor after a very long time, Jack is the only companion to stay with him.,A man who understands the pain of eternal life. A friend of the Doctor's eternal friend.
Jack tried to understand and comfort the doctor's wounds by telling the doctor, 'You're not alone,' even as he died as Bo's face.
Companion, who cares for and cares for the Doctor more than anyone in this universe. That's Captain Jack Harkness.
The "you are not alone" was a clue for Professor/Doctor Yana, which was actually The Master. Basically, he was saying The Doctor is not the only Time Lord.
@@keriwebb6988 can we have a head canon of it being both.
@@saorse5918 apologies, but I don't understand what you mean. The majority of the long explanation was right and true. I love Captain Jack Harkness, and I have a fantastic picture with John Barrowman.
@@keriwebb6988 oh I was more replying in regards to the comment you replied to. Head canon is that face of boa was both talking about Yana (canon) and how jack will be around for at least 5 billion years (head canon)
Too bad the Doctor kind of... Doesn't love him as much as the Captain does xD I mean, he kind of... Doesn't even want to let him inside the TARDIS
Fun/sad fact: After Jack found out Rose passed away, he would go back in time to look over her when she was a small child, he'd also watch over Jacky aswell. He'd use several years on watching Rose grow up, and keep her out of danger.
He even spent time with Jackie whilst Rose was with the Doctor, at one point dating her.
@@toast99bubbles why am i not surprised
@@toast99bubbles Is that where he got his name from? Jack short for Jackie Tyler
@@eastenders4k251 No, he got his name from an American soldier that had died, thinking it would be fine just to take the name and use it whilst he was staying in London during the war. When he met Rose and The Doctor, he had introduced himself to them using that name, and had grown to like it, so continued to use it. He later met that soldier who was called Jack Harkness during a rift issue that Torchwood Three was investigating. Previously, he had been known to go by the name Javic Thane, although it's unknown if this was also a fake name, or if this was his birthname.
@@toast99bubbles So what is his real name?
maybe the legends of the face of boe were wrong...
the doctor isn't the lonely god, jack is
jack isnt a lonly god hes a god forever alone
The wild part is allotta lore actually lines of with that theory
It’s sadder because he can’t even wrap his head around immortality himself. It’s painful, he stands and watches the world collapse around him; watches the earth beneath his very feet crack. He has to watch everyone he loves die, everyone around him grow old- something he longs for. But each time, they blame him. It’s his fault, he’s immortal, it’s him. But they don’t think. They don’t think about how much pain; how much tournament; how many lives; how many times he’s seen death; how much times he’s buried himself in his work just to get away. They don’t think about how he feels like everything is his fault. Each time someone he loves dies, a part of him does too. They’re not the only one that’s tired of him living with secrets- he is. He’s based around them, everyone in his life is covered in blood, and their blood is slowly drowning him. He’s been choking on everyone’s blood for so long, and he has to for the rest of eternity. Every death, every cut, every child, Lisa, Steven, Alice, Gray, Ianto, Rose, John, Tosh, Owen, Susie- it’s all his fault. And he drowns in it every day. The man that can never die, isn’t really alive: he’s merely breathing. Merely existing.
But he has to just “Exist” for eternity. And he doesn’t even get a choice.
This is the very reason why, even if it was ever possible, I would never wish immortality on anyone. People will see it as an amazing gift, through Jack we know that it would be a huge burden
@@wolfillusion9946 all I'd ever do is sleep
Its the survivor guilt that others blame him. Its the guilt of having some survive while others loose their wanted and very loved ones thus blame those who survive. It is a crazy senerio to ever live through and experience and very very very traumatizing and sad.
@@wolfillusion9946 its a double edge sword, blessing/curse or purgatory pending on who you are and your choices and decisions. But yeah, sometimes without others, it becomes very burdensome, aka the lines of the doctor and the doctors companions. But in a way, he did get a step closer to the doctor but at the same in a way cant be with him as a companion anymore.
He's basically a human analogue to the Doctor. Different capabilities of course, but damned formidable. As has been said of the Doctor, it is not good for him to be alone.
Jack is the only character who can literally fit anywhere, from the Daleks with ten and thirteen and empty children with nine, from a con-man to a legend, he is the definition of being immortal - Legacy Who
Nothing fits with 13. I am going to memory whore that entire area, and I wish nothing but the absolute worst for chinballs.
Dr Who /Torchwood is a great actor play. Often better than long movies ! JOHN BARROWMAN is the better of this crew . He represent his role with perfection.
Not to mention his stories on big finish are crazy
John Barrowman needs to see this! It's just so freakin good!!
Thank you very much!!!
I tagged him in it on Twitter tho doubt he will see it. He is super busy.
@@MsWillowbayOrelse Exactly my idea. Maybe if enough of us tweet it to him he'll eventually see it.
Question: was'nt he supposed to come back but then some harrasment charges came up ?
@@MmeNova that’s not really what happened i don’t think. it was never confirmed with the show but there were some leaked images of him filming i believe. big finish was told to cancel an audio that was going to be released called absent friends though because of the sexual harassment and misconduct. along with the pre recorded time fracture stuff he filmed too that isn’t going to be used. i don’t know if i’m misremembering seeing the leaked images with all the other rumours but if it was real i’m not sure what they’ll do with it. maybe air the episode but put a message before it? or just refilm it? i don’t know.
I love captain jacks character because it shows stuff that doctor who doesn’t show a lot of. And he as a character lives through so much, and will continue to for eternity ( ik he dies but still). Amazing video!
Thanks a lot!!!
He always happy to see the doctor I feel it's because they understand each other the know each others pain
Welp, pending eternity, face of boa.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS
There was an interesting article I was reading about The Face of Boa's death and how it might not have been an actual death. It said it might even just be a transcendence. Without knowing the exact details of how Jack becomes the Face of Boa, there can be only guessing. It's an interesting little piece and I wish I could remember where I stumbled on it, but it makes a sort of interesting sense.
@@paladonis I suppose he could have lived that long without being killed and became the face of Boe. As the face of Boe he then used his life energy to open up the motorway and died. He then later came back to life as normal Jack again 🤷♂️
Jack Harkness, the man who got to experience what it’s like to be a Time Lord.
And it's torture. Immortality is a curse, not a blessing. You live forever watching those you love die.
In many ways it's worse, and I expect most of the parallels between him and the Doctor are quite intentional. Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones, but you still have to choose.
People want to know the meaning of life, the meaning of life is life that your Alive A function living being,
@@yinyang452 eh, pending, if ya are watching things unfold and stuff play out over time and get to mert new people and try new things. Immortality is like a tool, depends on the usage and ya point of view. Yes, its a double edge sword, but ya can become your family's like guardian protector and stuff. Although, with time, comes hard choices in any siduation. So yes, a blessing/curse is the way to describe it. However, with tools in mind, if techology's ripe it doesn't matter if ya kill all who have that idea, it will pop back up again and there will be a point it cant be stopped. Although with evil thoughts and theories, ya have to scar it so bad so it gets avoided or blemished. Its just hard to deal with such things and choices.
@@yinyang452 Well, only if nobody else is immortal. If everyone was immortal it would certainly change the picture, I would think.
I feel this quote is fitting for this video.
"It's not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is still living with yourself forever."
that came to my mind too, damn, At World's End was amazing
holy crap! this edit made me realize the insane amount of parallels between the character of capt jack harkness and the character of the doctor. the questions both their accomplices ask is always "who are you?" "where do you come from?". i never bothered to see the complexity of jack as a character... thanks for showing me that. what a fantastic character! 🤯
Thank you very much!!!
I think the biggest difference between Jack and The doctor, is the Doctor runs, through time and space and rarely ever looks back. The doctor can change faces, become someone new and it dulls the pain of loss because each doctor is different from the last
Jack can only ever be Jack. He is trapped as himself with his memories and unlike the doctor, he spends time looking back.
If they do a new Torchwood it would be interesting if Jack met Me/Ashildr. Jack immortal man, Me the immortal woman. Both of them with lasting damage from the doctor. Both were cursed and abandoned by the doctor with little explanation
@@n.jboltz599 I'd love to see a new Torchwood series with Jack and Me/Ashildr as a team
@@jacobcordner Didn't she also have a TARDIS? think the last episode she was on her and Clara were going the long way back
@@n.jboltz599 yup, in that american diner tardis.
This amazing edit made me realize how grounded Jack is (in Torchwood mostly) when compared to the Doctor. The Doctor stories we get usually work out in the end with ex machinas to save the day, but Jack has to make the difficult choices and live on with them.
I'm not saying that the Doctor doesn't make hard choices, but I think Torchwood brings that point across much better because of the more mature nature.
But, against that sentiment is the fact that the Doctor stops the bigger villains.
I mean, the Dalek invasion of Earth when Jack's team existed showed how it would go without the Doctor, even with the help of all the other figures and organizations that exist from the Doctor's Third Incarnation onwards helping out as well.
Total destruction, had the Daleks not had an ulterior motive for taking Earth in the first place.
Now, put that with the Autons, the Sontarans and the all the others the Doctor has defeated, it would turn out the same result. The Master took the Earth without them even realising what was happening.
The Doctor often trades on his interstellar reputation. Probably the clearest example here is how he made the Atraxi fear him in "Eleventh Hour". Because of the few extremely horrendous things he did (like killing the Dalek fleet above Gallifrey), he can trade on that notoriety to not have to do similar actions repeatedly. He also has more advanced technologies and a better understanding of technology/science than Jack Harkness, allowing him greater flexibility in peacefully/bloodlessly resolving conflicts. Jack Harkness lacks these two key advantages, which is why his solutions are more messy and filled with difficult choices.
This is the ruin that lies in the wake of immortality, we don’t see it with the doctor because he never ever looks back. But when you slow down and settle you see what eternal life brings, you get the captain
Welp, its just that way also with surviving major disasters natural or man made. You have choices to make, whether good or bad, its your successors to decide, but sometimes it's better the doctors way, be mindful of your past but keep looking forward otherwise survivors guilt and the guilt of making such decisions will crush ya, well at least if ya have some morality and a heart. Good example of someone who goofed up with such a siduation was Lot. His wife looked back as fleeing even though told not to, turned to salt. He was so traumatized he should have allowed his daughters to go back to family to find husbands, he should have gone to abraham and found such among the tribe or back to older family like abraham made Issac and issac made jacob do. Third cousins are far enough away to marry ( intertwining keeps certain good traits in the family strong as said like a pedigree), but sometimes its good to also go outside the family every so often for other traits. Like how certain wheats have a fungus resistance that the normal doesnt. It depends on the siduation and choices at hand as well as love, without love and a close friendship and understanding, any marriages are null and void and just crumble. It is always bad, even toxic, for a marriage and kids if its held together by finances, items, inheritance, positions, greed, bad ambition, and so forth. No love, usually equals a world of trauma that can last for several generations if not forever in some cases when running around and cheating comes into physical form of other children. 😨 Then throw into the mix that many do it in a local area, some state or country wise others global, for such things, ruins diversity and makes it easier for gene issues and complications to pop up, and is just disgusting and morally wrong in so many ways.
Being the only immortal is a curse.
Only actor who could carry a character like Jack. Torchwood was so good that you didn’t yearn for the Doctor. One of the best ever sci-fi characters
Jack : I've lived a long time, I have done a lot of things.
The Doctor in Rings of Akhaten : I've lived a long life and I've seen a
few things.
The Doctor in The Zygon Inversion : I fought in a bigger war than you will ever know. I did worse things than you could ever imagine, and when I close my eyes... I hear more screams than anyone could ever be able to count!
Jack might be one of the most fascinating character in TV history and I'm not just saying that because I'm a totally biased Whovian.
I caught a case of the feels and now I'm gonna go drown my heart in tears.
Oh my goodness, I am so excited to dig into this! I absolutely love Jack Harkness; this is bound to be an iconic video!
Thank you so much!!!
Captain Jack the man who cannot die and out of his time with nothing to lose at the end of the every-time he dies he sees nothing but the darkness but at the end of the day he has one job to protect the doctor and the earth
This is a _great_ tribute to the great Jack Harkness. Wonderfully edited and a beautiful compilation. Thank you so much for creating this and sharing it with us!

Thank you so much!!!
"Immortality isn't living forever that's not what it feels like"
'Immortality is everybody else dying'
I love that moment in Utopia, when Jack goes: "World War One, World War Two, poison, starvation ..." then pauses "... a stray javelin" and 10th Doctor goes "ooooh". XD
The fandom love for the captain remains strong. Amazing video. Torchwood and jack are so unique, I’m even inclined to say I love his character and lore more than doctor who’s at times. I’m so glad he exists, he makes the doctor less alone in the universe.
One thing that this video made me realise is that Jack is the 'Doctor' of Torchwood, even though The Doctor hurt Jack so much by leaving. The abandonment, only to come back later, the suspicion of his teammates even as they follow him to the grave, the pain of living such an incredibly long life, it all mirrors The Doctor in a way that you don't see by only watching the main series. It's incredibly sad.
Honestly, I think those two could understand - and help - each other in a way that nears The Doctor and The Master, if they worked through everything.
Torchwood needs a new season greatest spin off ever
John deacided to wave his penis around on set and killed his bbc career and before u say internet rumors he admitted it
Yesssss
I'm curious how him and ishildr never met considering they're the only 2 true immortal humans they would've made their existence a little less miserable
To be fair the Doctor never asks about him at the end of the universe or the modern day IIRC. He just asks in old london which I'm pretty sure is before she would have seen him anyways
Well at the end of the universe he(The Face of Boe) had already perished so Jack likely never made it that far
@@afriendlyreminder6072 ashildr was immortal before jack(i believe) so I would assume it would've had to been when she created her own settlement and stopped traveling before she met Clara of course. Considering she had a time machine I would think she would've run across jack at least once
@@afriendlyreminder6072 yeah but he still lived for like 5 billion years. Still surprising they didn't meet (assuming they didn't. Like I said in my comment it's very possible they did and Ashildr just didn't mention it)
@@captainchaos5705 I do think we in the whoverse tend to forget that something like 5 billion years means nothing when put against the infinite universe times the infinite moments in time. I think it's more likely they wouldn't have met considering that Jack consistently throughout his life was traveling through both time and space with the exception of his little stays on Earth, while Ashildr only momentarily had that access
I don’t think Barrowman could ever dream this character would have a life of its own. Jack will always have a space in my heart. For every victory there is tons of tragedy. Nobody can ever fathom the choices he make and the reasons.
This is SO good!!!! I just can't believe how good it is plus it's Captain Jack Harkness yayyy! You've done it again, you've made another phenomenal video. You have a true gift!!
Thank you so much!!!
I've never seen someone capture who jack is better than this video. Amazing
For me, Jack is the most tragic character in the whole history of stories humanity ever created.
I've always been interested in the character of jack cause russel t Davis could have turrned him into a villain after the doctor abandons him but it just shows the strength of the character of jack
Right totally could have gone back to his old shenanigans, but like he said, traveling with the doctor changed him. And we truly see that change in him also. The saddest thing is we quite possibly may never see him again because of things that happened almost 20 years ago
Jack may be the only person who can truly understand the Doctor.
20 minutes, we really in for a treat :)

@@MargaritaLife thank you your tributes are really good I can't appreciate them enough
This is so well edited , can't even find words to describe how good this is as a huge Doctor Who and Torchwood fan.
Owen's theme is so haunting; so glad you included it in the video! Beautiful tribute.
The story of Jack has always broken my heart. Best spin off ever!!!
"I'm not a human being, I walk in eternity." Jack never said that, but that quote applies to him more than anyone else.
Barrowman was such a find for BBC and the Doctor Who creative team. Barrowman never ages!!! :)
Wow. I don’t even have words how incredible this is. I’ve never seen Torchwood, only DW, and even then not in several years, so I understand about 7% of this video, but still so much emotion cams through. The ways you cut scenes together and transitioned between all these different dialogues to build on a theme really worked. I feel like I understand a lot of general meaning even knowing so little about his story.
Damn. That did not feel like 20 minutes. That was brilliant!
Jack Harkenss had such a sad story, but it was so beautiful. I absolutely love this.
Immortal beings are the saddest there ever was
Makes ya wonder about that guy Jesus cursed not to die till he comes back, now there would be a legend teller.😕
@@razorransom1795 the stories he could share would be amazing
@@razorransom1795 Huh? I don't remember that from the Bible...?
@@jmills6397 read anne cathrine Emmrich life or christ. I think he is mentioned in there. That part was either omitted in the bible selection due to jewish vs gentile schism and his existance was a kept secret by then and in a way still is. His story wasn't known till later when he got baptised and took up the name Joseph, original name capharius.😎 Got curious after an anime mentioned that story and name and then saw it agai when skimming and picking section reading in Life of christ. The issue made more sense after my studies on jewish and european history and was jesus a jew class. I saw the unsaid or blatently ignored from pride and, being chosen over the jews part of christianity and understood the never mentioned jewish vs gentile Schism and Acts made more sense and I saw the divisons grow between gentiles and jews on paper over the laws and the interpertation on traditions and opinion over them. Although the jews did have ro follow them to end of time jewish or not due to God' s promise to abraham, but they were added on to and twisted so much by pharasees and sadducees it was being to burdensome on people, thus why Jesus came in to fulfill them (but doesn't mean bring to an end but completes them, showing the whole picture, and simpfling them back to what they were. Also it was wrong on the jews part to try to force the gentil to do it aude their were still new and sproutlings. Also a documentwry my mom and I watched on historians on Jesus, Peter and Paul's lives also highlighted these facts and brought some new facts to life. Like how when Jesus died and raised back up who did he give the keys to the kingdom and temple too? What did jews on the temple do to them and what ultimately happened? To Peter and the group, technically mary maglean was head of the women after the blessed virgin Mary, cause the women had their own side on the temple. And Paul (Saul) wad only half jewish moms side, other roman dads side, thus why he was never crucified but beheaded cause roman citizen. But why he was suppose to head the gentile half as James was jewish bishop.). Peter after was it citing what moses said about not wanting to drown the seedlings, said cannot halve too follow the Kosher laws fully but the comandments and refrained from idol blessed produce, meat or food. But after the disciples died, everything went to ruins with gentiles made at jews and them doing the law and gentile pride scarring many back into the pharasee and saducce arms and new modern judaism. Then the rift got so bad, it turned into anti semitism. I believe of the rift wasn't there, i believe protestantism would have never taken place, cause their is much brought to the table with the jewish oral traditions passed down. Then both groups ted purifying and distilling their sister religions (vaule modern judaism is not ancient Judaism and modern and judaism are siblings then),so they were so distinct from each other and that no one coule see the others side otherwise ostracized from all. Thus treatment on both sides to each other gor worse, and if God blessed some jews it too the gentiles would not acknowledge it. The jews are the working in the physical realm and creation as gentiles are more spiritual only. Both are halves of a whole, and that needs fixed before end of time. Thus why romans 11 and the sheep two flocks become one. Thus why anne cathrine emmrich's gentile bias also got repamanded and fixed and was given the sugar and strawberry anology. If rome ever part burns or gets geo gassed, its suppose to go back to Israel then. Also what is up with the church in eclipse, black pope and mouth piece/s and st johns boscos ships, two pillars and the great storm.
Not necessarily, sure lot of authors of sci-fi and fantasy sees it that way, but since we don't know anyone immortal those are just wild guesses.
In opinion person would adapt, get used to it also if that person would be forever young it could meet new people, experiencing new adventures, and so on, people are born all the time.
And lastly, just because others lives will be limited does not diminish their value in getting to know them.
But I think trying to judge immortality without being immortal is like judging ability to fly, without being able to, lot of people would tell you that it would be terrifying and yet there are people and animals who fly with enjoyment.
You put so much effort in this edit, and it turned out absolutely amazing! This is by far the best Torchwood edit I have seen, and certainly one of the best edits I’ve ever seen. Thank you for making this, it does such a great job capturing Jack’s multi-layered personality.

The real question is how many times did Jack and Ashilda meet, you know it's inevitable with their lifespans but under what circumstances
When you have absolved and forgiven everyone who has wronged you but nobody is willing to forgive you... the life of Cap't Jack.
Is immortality worth it? Jack Harkness, Ashildr, Logan, and the Doctor all long-lived, all broken.

This is everything and I'm getting emotional just leaving a comment.
We need more torchwood.
The doctor probably went through all the pain that jack experienced. Jack is quite young compared to the doctor so we can assume that the doctor learned to live with his immortality. But Jack is still in the process of figuring it out. The doctor has it easier as well because he can regenerate and look after people he cares for undercover. (Don't know if they ever did it but i feel like it would be handy. Its way easier to run away or watch from the shadows when you got a new face.)
oh jesus this is absolutely stunning, i cant even imagine how long it took you to put together all the parallels damn, every section of this is so impactful, i forgot how painful jacks story was
I come back regularly to rewatch this because it is THAT FUCKING GOOD oh my god.
I've been watching this since release, I believe I've watched this about 500 times now.
Nice of you to FLASH your junk on your co-workers. Sickening!
Words cannot describe how much I love Harkness, We need torchwood back
You never realize just how hard and yet how joyful this man can be about his situation. He has a worst life than the doctor because he has to sit there and watch the people around him die and sit through every second of time... until he has his time gadgets. He and Rose have always been my favorite characters
Probably one of my favourite characters in doctor who (I haven't seen classic yet), up there with the doctor themselves and River Song

Great Video! Makes me want to watch Torchwood again!
Jack's story is full of so much pain, and such deep caring, and such a strong (yet sometimes twisted) sense of duty. I think he and Ashilde/Me should've gotten together, since they're both functionally immortal. Maybe that would've given them both some sense of normalcy, of stability.
I love this whole damned thing! It shows the entire depth and breadth of Captain Jack. "The joy is worth the pain."
Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️❤️
Thank you for such a wonderful tribute to Jack!
This was incredible! You did such an amazing job showing who Jack Harkness is and everything he's gone through
Gotta be best the best character who wasn't a doctor.
This is an absolute masterpiece!
If people say that they want to live forever, I show them Captain Jack Harkness
The Doctor: Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It's not the time that matters, it's the person.
Bring back Captain Jack harkness ‼️🏴
This is utterly incredible. Beautiful, heart-wrenching, breath-taking, perfect. I salute you, this is one of the most well-made videos I have ever watched.
What a work of art, such a great compiling of such an amazing story. Many thanks to the person that made this together, it was great to feel all the emotion of the whole show in 20mins. Peace
Margarita Life... You've created so many awesome videos. Thank you!
Wow this was an absolutely Amazing compilation. Best one I've ever seen from start to finish ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite Captain Jack, thanks to the brilliant acting of the wonderful John Barrowman
I feel like Jack is the doctor, no not literally but as in the only difference between them is that Jack has to stay where he is, the doctor has his TARDIS where he can run, but Jack is stuck where he is with the people he’s with (not trying to say the doctor is a coward but I’m just trying to point out something I’ve noticed)
I wish there was a show to bring Captain Jack back again!!! Love him and John!!! 🏴🏴🥰🥰
Jack is such an underrated character
Would be funny if one day the Doctor Regenerates into Captain Jack. Can only Imagine the talk he has with himself should that ever happen

the 21st century (2001 to 2101 AD) is when its all changes , we have to be prepared for what is to come. that will destroy the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI and if your prepared AIFF) Se need to be prepared, trust me , the 21st century is when it all changes
Jack Harkness Circa 2008 or 2009 AD
its true Jack , you did say running with you would be a adventure Jack
just like you jack i heard my family even my dad say , its all your fault, but you cant take it back ,you keep the memories in your consciousness so you cant die always go back casue you pissed off the female gods ..you had a heart you came back. a jack that the female gods did not want to say hit the road jack ..they wanted the jack back.. so he hung out with the gods so he was turned into a god and now he has these fantastic powers. he gets extra lives , regenerations like the Doctor.
Has anyone watched all of the episodes of "Torchwood" and "Doctor Who" with Captain Jack Harkness in them? I mean obviously the creator of this awesome video, but anyone else? 🤔 Love all the Whovians and Torchwood team.
I wouldn't mind sending something I've been working out for years. I'm hesitant but I'd be honored if you'd just look at it
Captain Jack Harkness...legend❤️
