Best comparison video, no wasting time, no excessive talking. On point. Great explanations! Thanks! I have HP and I am not really happy with the quality of the print and was thinking of getting a new one, but after watching this video I decided to get different papers instead :)
Thank you for the time you took to make the video. Having said that, I can't understand your top selection. The INSTAX had the old micro connector; it was bigger and I assume heavier; it has the plastic wastage; it has the longest print time. The latter is not a problem in this test but if you were with someone and giving them a print - you might not want to be standing around waiting for the print to develop. You also used a vertical image for the INSTAX and horizontal images for the other two. That makes comparisons difficult. If the INSTAX was more washed out then it would be good to see how washed out the background was. I agree having easier to access film is an advantage but only if you aren't in a larger city or tourist area. My local Staples and of course Amazon, carry both. Lastly the fact INSTAX can be used in their own dedicated camera is only a minor advantage at best. While I don't know the optics of the INSTAX camera, I can't picture many people going on vacation thinking they would take another bulky camera with them when they already have their cell phone with excellent cameras. And if they are, as I do, then it's a proper digital camera and not a novelty mini-image camera. Several things that you either barely touched on or ignored are important in such a review: *The INSTAX printer is more expensive. *INSTAX paper is at least 25% more expensive over the other two units. Very important in the long run. *The other printers have a sticker format that it doesn't appear the INSTAX has. This is why my daughter wants a printer - to make stickers. *The other printers have some variety of paper such as circular sticker images - something I can't find for INSTAX. *You don't note that in addition to Canon and HP zink papers being interchangeable - there are a number of other brands whose papers can be used. UNLIKE the INSTAX which appears to be proprietary. In the end I think I will go with the Canon due to the port but will buy my daughter HP paper to go with it.
In addition, I’ve heard Cannon Ivy printer has that blue tint to photos. I wonder since I can see it on the video. Any update maybe it’s a paper issue?
@@supergremlin2631 I think it’s a paper issue. You can correct it by adjusting the tint in your edit, but I don’t think people want to do that for every single photo
Glad the video was helpful. FYI, there’s actually a new Instax Mini Link 3, but I feel like most people watching this video were between the Canon and the HP
I photograph cars and this is an awesome device to have. I asked a friend of mine to print me a photo out of Polaroid because I know she had one. My excitement only lasted a few minutes until I saw the photo. Then I came here and got much more clarity about other options to consider. Great video 👏🏽👏🏽
Just want to say that your enthusiasm is a joy to watch and I love those little nervous giggles! A question, though. Why is the Instax cropping the photo? Is there a setting to print the full size like the other two?
Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever be confident in front of the camera lol. Yes, with the Instax, you can reframe and rotate it so that you can print the full size like the other two printers. I have my photos cropped like that because I usually take my photos horizontally, but then display them vertically.
Best comparison video ive seen! Ive been contemplating getting rid of my Ivy and getting something else. Maybe for now ill just buy the HP zink paper until My Ivy craps out. Less waste! Thank you!
I’m glad the video helped. I’ve actually been taking my HP sprocket with me on recent trips over the other 2 and with the Canon Zink paper. The only thing that still annoys me is the micro usb. All I need is that to be updated and l’ll be 100% happy lol
Glad the video was helpful. I was just about to ask which were you going with, but then I saw your follow up. Don’t forget to grab the Canon Zink paper 👍🏼
Awesome Video!. I'm going with the cannon ivy 2 because of the in app features and was worried when the quality came out last in comparison to the HP Sprocket. But knowing it just depends on the quality of the Zink paper eases my mind. Great work!
That’s a great choice. I didn’t think that the paper would matter either, but it really does make a difference lol. I haven’t bought new Canon Zink paper in a while, but I’m curious if they’ve “updated” them. If you do get it, let me know how it is with the sample paper they include
Thanks for doing the paper swap. That was clutch! Anyone know if you go through this in your carryon if the xray machine messes with the refills? I think it does for the instax right?
You really should try the non-zink printers. Zink is ok for spur of the moment disposable pics. But they're pretty awful. The next step up is so so so much better. Stuff like the Canon qx20 printers. Those are dye sublimation printers which look beautiful and don't change colors over time. And they don't cost much more.
Thanks for the suggestion!! I was actually looking at the Kodak Mini 3 and for some reason didn’t even think about checking out Canon’s options 🤦🏻♂️. I literally just ordered it lol. Thanks again 🍻
Happy New Year! 🎉🥳 Thanks so much for this video review! Everything was well explained, and I really appreciated seeing all of the sample photos! Thanks also for the additional tips and tricks! P.s. those dogs are so adorable! Great subjects and models! 🐾 🐶
Recently just ordered instax mini 12 for my daughter but I’m going to return it since I just found out about the instax mini link 3 with AR features and such. She uses my old iPhones 11 pro and 7 plus, which got better quality than the actual instax cameras. Shoot, I’ll be using the printer too now lol Thanks for the tip about using the empty cartridge as a photo stand too. Thanks
live the simple and straight to the point video! Just wondering have you ever used all three without an edited photo in lightroom or one less edited? and if that made any difference? and also if you would you ever consider doing another comparison with the app functionality?
One thing that you didn't mention is that when you had a landscape photo, the Instax printed it vertically and cropped the photo significantly, which makes a real difference to me. Otherwise, great job on the comparison!
thank you for such a comprehensive cmparison! your video really helped me make a long debated decision - im probably going with the instax since the cartiridge is compatible w the instax camera :D but the micro usb... ugh.
Does any zink paper work with HP/canon? I'm deciding which one to get and leaning towards HP sprocket, but from where I'm from, it might be hard to find the exact HP zink paper
Maybe the Canon photo quality could be fixed in settings? Have you contacted them? it seems unlikely Canon would release a crap product that alters the colors to that degree. From having worked with Photoshop, the poor prints look very much like a color profile mismatch. In the Lightroom settings, did you use an RGB profile or a CYMK? Did you set Lightroom to manage the color, or to allow the printer to manage the color? Does Lightroom have Canon Ivy profile? Does the Ivy have any settings/adjustments? If you find a solution, please let us know. As you said, it would be nice to have a printer with a USB-C charge port.
2 things: one printed vertical while the other 2 are horizontal. Also, it would be helpful to know the size of the photos. These look like 3 in. x 2 in.
Glad I was able to help. Btw, the Instax just got updated with the Mini Link 3. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but something to keep in mind.

They’re great for gifts. Especially since everyone is taking photos with their phones, it’s fun actually making a physical print.

Can’t you just rotate the landscape pics?
You can rotate the picture in the app so it prints as a landscape
Great video thanks, why does the instax print in a different orientation to the other landscapes?
Can I print directly from my Sony mirrorless camera, or I still have to tranfer it my phone then printing it ?
Such an awesome detailed review. Thank you!!

Crucially, the Instax “prints” are actually film. So when you mention that it has a film like quality, that’s because it literally IS film.
The Ivy uses the terrible ZINK. You should have compared the Selphy QX20 which uses dye sublimation
HP Sprocket it is
I was going to go for the newer Instax 3, but the HP Sprocket won me over.
Nice comparison, I like the author’s attitude.
Can you do a comparison with the Polaroid gen 2 . I currently have that. Want to see if upgrade to the HP
