They should have combined Europa and Grain into a true powerhouse Sampler synth. Then, actually LISTEN to their customers requests and added any 1 of the following requests we've been asking for, some for over 10 years! Angus Reid I am currently on version 10, waiting for 12...maybe. But I do know they have added a few updates on the list as well as a few that weren’t on it. IMO I don’t see $129 being justified for an update yet. 7 to 10 was worth it for me and I’m hoping Reason will come through again in V12.
I haven't updated reason since 2012, but now I just have to get reason 10. This update is absolutely insane. I've been getting into this ambient/idm thing and these new toys are just great in that!
This is the device that made me upgrade from 9. I was frankly skeptical about 10 with all the simple 3rd party stuff like Klang/Humana & Pangea and promoting loads of new loops - I was thinking yeah but this is 130 EUR. Europa seemed like Propellerhead's version of Expanse (which I had) so I was thinking 10 overall wasn't worth it for me. Then I heard Mattias play the Grain patch Vergon 6 at the end of the live Europa stream and it's source sample. That was the moment I was blown away. When I eventually got back to Earth I watched the Grain preview and joined the 10 beta and it blew me away again. I only just arrived back this morning from outer space and had to buy the 10 upgrade straight away. Coming from the old Amiga tracker scene I've always been a big sampling fan and being able to manipulate samples in Grain's unthinkably cool ways I couldn't have imagined 20+ years ago is awesome. So for me, it's 10's killer device. To be fair, Europa is an incredible synth, but Grain is a new dimension in sampling.
Heheheh, so I am not the only "Tracker" who instantly fell in love with this synth. It instantly reminded me of Trackers too, and even though I wasn't any good back then, it is still my favourite way of creating music.
Same here. The grain device alone makes reason worth it. Just upgraded yesterday and spent almost all night playing with it. Seriously have not felt that inspired since I first started making music.
I also was blown away with the patch that appeared in the end of that live stream. But I already have a granular synthesis (Omnisphere 2), so I wanted so bad this patch that I just recreated it. I have a previous Reason version so I got the soundsource used in the stream, then I copy and tweak every little parameter of Omnisphere until I got it, and VIOLÁ, I just have almost exactly the same amazing sound that Grain has in Omnisphere 2. After all this I realized that I don't need Grain to achieve sounds like these, but I must admit that Granular has this Reason-friendly design I fell in love 6 years ago and looks very easy to use, so Grain still looking very interesting for me.
Propellerhead knock it out the park with this upgrade at first I didn't think much of it now that I upgraded this DAW is just getting better and better
I think Ableton has been reading the comments that Reason users have been writing. AL10 seriously just added 5 or 6 of the feature requests the Reason community has been begging for, some for almost a decade. And AL did it in 1 release. I know they don't have the Grain & 1,000,000 of the same drum sample pitched up and down to sound slightly different or the more appealing look that Reason has, but they knocked Reason out of the park on a head to head with the Ableton version of Release 10. THAT IS AN UPGRADE!!
I am looking forward to getting home and using this now. Really good knowledge sharing. Especially looking forward to bringing in some vocal samples to use. Let's see where this leads me.
Please make more educational videos! I love using reason, but half of the time it's just fiddling around with the knobs trying to figure out what they do exactly (not that it's a bad thing!)
the drums sounds you can come with alone will be legend and unique to each user. this is an extremely impressive synth. this is coming from someone who was hoping for track folders, freezing, better DSP usage, markers, GUI zoom......guess that will be v11. Already forked over the $129 upgrade fee. you can't beat the machine.
@Photoindra- They (Propellerdeads) would rather take our money by giving things we didn't ask for, instead of implementing the features we've been requesting for years.
@Hypnoz123 I see you comment on Reason videos as well. I've come to the conclusion you either work for PH or Reason Talk .com. (All you do is Praise them like they are perfect in all areas). It's called voicing OUR opinions. If we don't let PH know what we want for OUR $$, then how will they know what to implement and improve? I'm speaking out for ALL of Us LOYAL Users who have been asking for features, paying PH's bills and in return get 1 or 2 of the features out of almost 50. My voice comes from Truth. You are just an angry undercover Troll trying to defend a defenseless company that chooses to make EXCUSES instead of PROGRESS. Go Troll someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.
I highly suggest 10! Reason used to be just midi, then they added the ability to record audio, then they added VSTs and now this. Now that Reason supports VST there is no downside. On a side note, the pitch correction in Reason sounds great. I think it sounds better than Melodyne which I believe goes for around $300. It's more than worth the price and in my opinion with this update, its a steal!
No time like the present, my friend :) I work with Logic, Abelton, and FL studios, but I always seem to come back home to Reason. It's workflow is very "creative-friendly", unlike some of the other DAWs out there. And now with it's VST support, it's just as versitile. I'd HIGHLY recommend it.
This and Parsec are realy my favorit module inside Reason studio. So much possibility, i hope the new sampler rack could benefit of this to create acoustic modeling instruments.
I was hoping for that also - you can add delays to the envelopes (at least with Europa) but it's not quite the same. Hoping this gets added in an update
I know, right? The average running time of a sitcom without commercials is 22 minutes but this video runs over 12 minutes. I thought I was watching a tutorial on YT and not the director's cut of Titanic!!! Come on, Reason! #sarcasm #justjoking #totallyknowwhatyouresaying
Reason ...these are the most Ridiculous Sound Designing Devices Ever Constructed Into One Software.💪👑Let's Get That Sequencer a Lil More Creative Also.
I know I said I'd probably hold out and this would more than likely be the first time I didn't update my Reason, But I been playing with it and I think I will have to break down and make that purchase Once Again! Propellerheads has Always been pretty fair in what they give u for the money! It's definitely not (FL) Buy Once, and Have it for Life! I guess I can appreciate that too....Ive Been With Reason since 1.0 and Rebirth! So... yeah...Dope! The ONLY thing that seems kinda messed up is.....for the One's who already purchased the RE such as synchronoss radical piano and even Klang... I know they were giving out synchronous at one point for a limited time and I missed it because I never checked the web. Kinda sux that it's always the dedicated user who's been there supporting em since 1.0 usually gets the shity end of the stick. I'm thankful I didn't purchase any the extras so it doesn't really apply to me... I'm sad I missed out on a free offer but upgrading to 10 will get me all back... it almost makes a person afraid to buy any other rack extensions because future updates might include those as well especially those bigger packages that have quite a few. They need another plan for sure. IMO
I used to use Reason -- I really do like it a lot. There is one major issue with it though, the fact that ... the mouse clickings are not "intuitive". Even just to zoom in, or to move to another clip is frustrating. Instead of just clicking ... you have to know where to click, and usually its a tiny region on the screen. Pretty lame -- especially considering Reason is super powerful. That literally is why I don't use it anymore. You guys should seriously consider changing that. Ok thanks for the good times tho.
Does grain only play 1 grain? it doesnt work as othre granular synths that can extract and play multiple grains sometimes sccattered almost together? Thankd just need some clearing on this
Does GRAIN use only ONE grain? I mean Ive been trying to find the way to use multiple grains, but it seems its a One grain approach, and not a sccattering or shuffeling idea.. is it so? sorry I just wanted to think if this is so. Thanks!!
I just wish the sample playback position response would be linear, none of the device with sample start position automatable have a linear response which makes it not ideql to use with break loops... Sad. Can Reason Studios provide a way to switch the automation response to linear for those devices? (At least the for the Grain)
Only feature unique to this device is "set" tuning. Other than that, these features have already been well-refined by *FREE VSTs!* Also, are we all just going to forget about Maelstrom?
Oh such a beautiful synth! . But i m never gonna use it. Why its not sold as a VST ? i dont want swap from ableton ! thats why i need to buy Padshop for granular instad ... ;( . So its Kinda fail
When oh when is Reason going to let us rescale the size of rack extensions..? it's ridiculous we can't take them out of the rack and rescale them so we can actually see what we are doing instead of squinting and squinting getting headaches trying to see the tiny tiny knobs and fonts.
Grain kills my Reason when loading longer audioclips (+2min)... makes the audio lagg as hell when pressing play, even thou the start and stop only are 2 sec apart . Think that the programmers got their memory handling a bit wrong :(
I had a similar issue with the beta version, but I haven't had a problem with the full version at all. The longest file I've tried is a little over 6 min (I'm sure there's a limit somewhere) but maybe there's something wrong with your setup? Have you changed your settings to allow Reason to use more than the default CPU power?
I already have the tools I want. In order to get this I would have to spend over $400. Why not just sell the plugins separate? A combo with a burger fry and drink costs less than buying a burger and a drink. But not all people want the combo, sell us the burger. You’ll make more money and make people happy.
This and the Europa video are absolutely superb. Well done to the entire production team for these...
I need! coming from ableton live 10 (suite) this is amazing attidute by propellerhead
Facts.
4 years later...they still are : )
The next $139 PH synthesizer? Nope... FREE with upgrade. Thank you for releasing this beast in Reason 10!

@@Nicholas_PA did they bring some of these in with the latest version?

Reason is still 100x better than Ableton
I love how detailed you can shape your sound. Wish there would be a vst version of this.
A powerful grainular synth without a cavalcade of confusing controls? Sign me up
This Grain is a true beast of its kind. I don't even know where to start on that baby THANKS :)
One of the best synths I’ve ever used
This video alone has made me want to buy reason
This is transcending the game 👌🏽 thank you propellerhead
I am looking forward to getting home and using this now. Really good knowledge sharing. Especially looking forward to bringing in some vocal samples to use. Let's see where this leads me.
Props have really stepped up their game; it looks like they're getting my money yet again.
Love these educational videos!
Thank you, really like your tutorials. Well spoken and easy to follow
I've been SLEEPING on Grain. This is DOPE!
Damn this is totally a game changer...808 will never be the same
Proud user since 1.0, i must buy this update after x mas, big package, this one
i wish this could be a plugin on its own (vst, au, lv) for non reason users!
Omnisphere 2.
Well now all of reason is a VST(3)... but then you'd have to be a Reason user still ;-)
Please make more educational videos! I love using reason, but half of the time it's just fiddling around with the knobs trying to figure out what they do exactly (not that it's a bad thing!)
All those possibilities with the new synths in Reason 10!!
I want this thing soooooo baaaaaaaaad!!!! This is what I have been waiting for! This is how I want to make music. Too bad my laptop sucks...
I really feel like you could do a whole series of videos on Grain.
AMAZING SYNTH!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED
the drums sounds you can come with alone will be legend and unique to each user. this is an extremely impressive synth.
this is coming from someone who was hoping for track folders, freezing, better DSP usage, markers, GUI zoom......guess that will be v11. Already forked over the $129 upgrade fee. you can't beat the machine.
i have my fingers crossed for some of that stuff to show up in the 10.5 update
I've seen people use blocks as markers. But I completely agree with sadness about lack of GUI update. Ehhhh... Retina.
@Photoindra-
They (Propellerdeads) would rather take our money by giving things we didn't ask for, instead of implementing the features we've been requesting for years.
Nick Pa Jesus you have nothing better to do than spam your delusional crusade here do you? Give it a rest already.
@Hypnoz123

great inspiring device. thanks propellerhead
Would love some "Advanced Sound Design" videos about Grain (and Europa).
you guys at propellerhead are way too crazy. always adding envelopes. you should call yourself envelopehead. blowing my mind regularly.
Not a user but damn this looks good

Drawing in curves between points in the envelopes? Can we get curves in automation lanes??
nope, that would make far too much sense and be too intuitive
-Ernst Nathorst-Böös CEO
I was hoping for that also - you can add delays to the envelopes (at least with Europa) but it's not quite the same. Hoping this gets added in an update
Fantastic. Great explaining. Thanks.
My favorite plugin
next level
great video that answered many questions for me.
Very good device. Makes me *almost* want to upgrade from version 9.5. I might wait until version 11.
any number of free VST graintable synths can do the same as this one do not be duped by the fancy interface and sleek design
I love Reason!
just updated so awesome =)
10:52 Wow!
Very long video.. so detailed. It worth 😁😁😁

Here we go!
wouldn't it be good if grain could render graintables to load into malstrom, would like to see that in the future
I am so upgrading from 8 to 10 next payday because of this and the Complex-1
I hope you waited
Thanks, this is so brilliant!

Now with the reason rack, you can use all the sense in affection whatever DAW you want.
So Rest In Peace Malstrom? 2005-2017
it's still there however!
is it tempo sync?
Any plans on releasing this as a VST?
Grain is include in reason 11 intro ?
When will you sell this as a VST/AU plugin? It would instantly trounce all of the other granular synth plugins out there...
Now it is!
Don't seem to have the boomer bass preset in my preset list, is that from a separate pack?
Never mind, did an update and I have it now :)
Love love looooooove
Any chance this will come to iPad?
yo i jus upgraded and necktar updated their driver all new devices and rack exenstion includin some vsts now show up with necktar p4 im overwhelmed.
Please release this as a VST.
Does grain only play 1 grain? it doesnt work as othre granular synths that can extract and play multiple grains sometimes sccattered almost together? Thankd just need some clearing on this

is this available for other daws?
Yes. Reason now runs in any DAW as a VST, AU, or AAX plugin too! /ryan
WOW!
Wow. Amazing
I'm having issues with this, I load my sample, in it, change settings and when I preview it it doesn't play the editing I did. What gives?
You have to trigger it with midi notes. The preview button just plays the raw(unprocessed) sample
If "Reason" wasn't so well ingrained a name for your product you should rename it "Inspire." That's what it does!
Hours of fun! Actually, years.
reason türkçe yama ne zaman çıkcak acaba
I just wish the sample playback position response would be linear, none of the device with sample start position automatable have a linear response which makes it not ideql to use with break loops... Sad.
Can Reason Studios provide a way to switch the automation response to linear for those devices? (At least the for the Grain)
This shit is crazy
I wish all propellerhead sythns can be sold as a vst even octorex
Your wish came true!😂
hello are it worth upgrade from reason 5 to 11 plz?
Yes.
Please release it as a plugin like Europa
Only feature unique to this device is "set" tuning. Other than that, these features have already been well-refined by *FREE VSTs!* Also, are we all just going to forget about Maelstrom?
If I'm correct, Europa came out as a standalone vst. Will this Grain plugin ever come out (if not already) as a standalone vst too?
How is this that different than the dozens of Max granulators I've messed with?
That's the trick, it's not.
Hater
Please make this a VST.
I have a ton samples like from iZotope Iris 2 library, wich I would really like to load in Grain :)
iv been trying to find out where my iris 2 library of samples are stored i have a mac and can't find where they are on my drive :(
try program files, common files, and app data if you're on PC
sleek design
Hah, I just produced a video with that same AfterEffects “opening book on a tabletop“ template yesterday. :)
Oh such a beautiful synth! . But i m never gonna use it. Why its not sold as a VST ? i dont want swap from ableton ! thats why i need to buy Padshop for granular instad ... ;( . So its Kinda fail
Please make grain a vst, like you did Europa
just dope
Can grain use any sample i have wav files, Mp3 files ect
Yes!
When oh when is Reason going to let us rescale the size of rack extensions..? it's ridiculous we can't take them out of the rack and rescale them so we can actually see what we are doing instead of squinting and squinting getting headaches trying to see the tiny tiny knobs and fonts.
I'm learning I'm learning
Grain kills my Reason when loading longer audioclips (+2min)... makes the audio lagg as hell when pressing play, even thou the start and stop only are 2 sec apart . Think that the programmers got their memory handling a bit wrong :(
I had a similar issue with the beta version, but I haven't had a problem with the full version at all. The longest file I've tried is a little over 6 min (I'm sure there's a limit somewhere) but maybe there's something wrong with your setup? Have you changed your settings to allow Reason to use more than the default CPU power?
It was on 95%, now there is no limit but still lagg as hell :(
Have Reason since 1.0.. :)
Thinking about update from 6.5(my actual version)
What is the real difference between Malstrom and Grain?
Mads Petersen I never could drag and drop a sample into malstrom or at least I never saw the option to.
a vst3 starter kit and make your own, by first learning.
Woah.
Crazy..
There's a MANUAL!! WHERE??
When ever I record a melody in Reason 10 I can’t even get it to loop at the 4 bar it seems off even with the notes right on the marker smh
Do you have the loop button on?
Doug Royce yea
You're referring to recording in the sequencer @@JoseFlores-zu3bg
I already have the tools I want. In order to get this I would have to spend over $400. Why not just sell the plugins separate? A combo with a burger fry and drink costs less than buying a burger and a drink. But not all people want the combo, sell us the burger. You’ll make more money and make people happy.
Just make it as external vst plugin.
