      Thank you for your comment 🩷 I think it can be tough for some to speak up as there are also very strict laws about “defamation” (which are mainly taken advantage of by businesses if you leave them a bad review) so I think a lot of people tread lightly around certain subjects, especially if they want to stay

      Of course they don't: they want to portray a "perfect, faerie-tale-like" lifestyle. Of course, life has up and doesn't no matter where you live [even in the country you were born in and plan to never travel or move to another country, and that's fine, nothing wrong in that]. But yea, i wish more UA-camrs would allow themselves to be more "fragile/honest" [not the word i wanted to use] on camera.

    I am Italian, but I have been living in the UK for 10+ years. I had never been to Pride before, I hadn't even come out yet, so my only experiences have been at super huge Pride events like London and Brighton. In 2023 I was so lucky to attend Pride in Seoul (I came to SK a few times over the past few years, I love the country) and it was such a crazy, humbling but also empowering experience! Of course, it's different from Pride in a country like the UK, I had never been part of a parade with police around to keep you safe for example, but the people I met were all amazing. I have only great memories from that day. But I do get your point completely, as an Italian I wouldn't even live in my home country, let alone a country that has almost fewer rights than Italy. Anyway, love your video and love hearing you chat! All the best, moving is always a crazy adventure :")

    It's one of the reasons I left Japan. UA-cam and social media often glamourises and shows the positive side of living in various countries but the reality is that there are a lot of downsides too. They live in different cultures and perceptions, lifestyle, medical treatment etc is very different. In terms of women's rights, privacy, work ethics, etc, I knew I never wanted to live long term in Japan. But I still love it immensely and am happy to visit.
    Good luck with your next steps and can't wait to see your renovations etc in the UK!!

    I totally get why you didn't film much while packing. Even though it seems effortless for the viewer it is a thing on top you have to keep in mind while making important decisions (camera angles, moving the camera with you how to sit in order to be seen properly) and it may hinder you in your ability to move freely. And that sucks if you don't have that much time and need stuff to get done! So no need to apologize for not showing much :)
    And thank you for your honest view on living in Korea. I'm sorry to hear you've gone though such a horrendous situation and am glad you made it safe though it and are better now! ❤

    i wish you all the best on the new chapters in your life!
    i feel you, while i only lived in japan and not korea, immigrating there is so haaard. i personally did not even have visa issues since it was mostly tied to my university studies, but every other little bureaucracy hurdle is designed to be a bajillion times harder for foreigners. i need a job to get an apartment, i need an apartment to get a job, and most real estate offices and landlords openly say that they only want japanese people for those few apartments that are still available in and around cities. and you always need a japanese guarantor for everything. a few friends of mine also had to fly abroad to get their visa renewed every year because you could not get it renewed in japan itself for some reason. i feel like the system is designed to frustrate you so much that itll keep immigrants out, and I've heard similar things about Korea or Hongkong, which is a shame, because i wouldve really love to stay in japan after graduation. But I had to realize that living in my native country/EU is just a lot easier for me because i don't get any obstacles put into my way regarding everything always (aside from the fact that it's hard to make friends with non-immigrants since youre always just the diversity person(tm) somehow. people want to be seen with you in public to seem international and open minded but they dont really wanna be actual friends, at least that is my experience- I'm not sure if this is also the case for korea).

    I promise you'll have a cultural shock even if you stay 3 or 4 nights in a foreign country, as a tourist. At the beginning of October, we went to London, stayed at a nice hotel in Soho.
    I expected the traffic to be the complete opposite of what I'm used to: you look first to the left, and then to the right. Well, no baby: on some narrow streets, i had to look both ways, as cars could come from both directions. on other streets, i was expecting them to come from the left, they were coming from the right. @@ (me getting confused and not understanding). Drivers were generally patient/polite and they would let people pass even when jay walking. They probably understand London has so many tourists and that it's a waste of time to honk them all.
    The underground was another big shock: each person had to have their own ticket/pass/whatever they wanted to use to get inside the station. makes sense, if people get down at different stops: they need to scan their card to get out. but this is not how things work in other parts of Europe [not wrong/right, just different, i get it]. For instance, in Romania, i can take 9 friends with me in the underground, and pay for all of them, and myself: these are tickets with 10 trips and anyone can get out wherever they want. I don't even need to hold onto the ticket to exit. the trip costs the same regardless of traveling just 1 stop or 20.
    On the bus/tram is similar, except i can only pay for 5 or 6 other passengers/friends. If going all the same amount of stops, and ticket instectors come, the're no issue generally, just makes their job a bit more complicated. However, if we all get down at different stops, the last person to be in the bus has to have the ticket (travel or bank card actually). The ticket/trip lasts for 90 minutes, and allows you to switch as many overground lines as possible. If the friends get down at different stops for different lines, they WILL have to pay for their new trips: it has nothing to do with you or the card you used: they can't track you down.
    Sorry for the TL;DR this novel.

    • @sapphirecamui6447
      @sapphirecamui6447 3 місяці тому +1

      ps: i went to spain twice this year as well. I had a short conversation with the lifesaver by the pool and he told me i should apply for a job at a hotel or something. This is something i wouldn't do in Romania, but in a different country, it sounds VERY enticing. We don't want to live in here anymore and feel both poor and depressed. At least, I thing in a different country, i could feel just poor, or just depressed (but why would if i work in a country i like? LOL) .
      Another reason e HAVE to leave is that my partner and I are same-sex/gender (on paper) and we CAN'T get married here :( And a few years back, there's been a case of this gay couple (one of them was Romanian and worked for the Europen parliament or something). His husband (they got married in a country where they can do so legally, with all benefits and such) wanted to come here and use the marriage visa! ⛔🚫🚷 he got refused, Of course! so, they sued the RO government who didn't budge so they went to the European Supreme court, who told RO to accept them i believe and to make laws in this regard.
      What followed was a 2-day poll-voting to give romanians plenty of time and go say 'we want marriages between a man and a woman' LOL. They organized the poll at a time in the year when most Romanians living in the villages couldn't go vote: they had to work the land and prepare for the next harvest. i believe 30 to 40% (i forgot the percentage) of those allowed to vote went to the polls, and the results for 'no' were under 40%. Ppl didn't give a crap about this law.

    Love the new hair!!! Gosh, I cant tell you how much I appreciate the things you have said in this video. But also first of all, I wanted to say: SO, SO sorry for your loss!!! I only just saw the video where you told us about your mum passing. And congrats on the wedding🎉❤! This is so sad, I am so glad you have your wife (sry dont know how to spell her name) to give you love, and strength, and support in this hard time!!! I am so happy for you guys that you found each other.
    I have had a desire to move to Korea for quite some time, but without ever even having gone , yet, I had already gathered so much information about Korea leading to me having exactly the impression of life there, which you shared in this video. It can be lovely, but also brutal and not a only a little bit frightening in some regards. I was so shocked by the Halloween incident two years ago. Many Korea creators I follow brushed it off, as if nothing happened. This left me feeling very uncomfortable. So I am so glad you shared these honest feelings. I can imagine what you went through must have been horrendous and traumatising😢

    Sorting out your entire life and packing it up to send it to a distant country sounds exhausting.I would love to visit South Korea.Only for a vacation, your points sound horrible and terrifying. We honestly do not realise how lucky we are to live in the UK IMO. I lived in a couple of other countries and the things you mention about Korea were true in those countries too. My biggest shock was living in America, where although you are supposedly protected by anti discrimination laws you definitely suffer from discrimination because of our race, gender or sexuality. It's just that people are good and hiding their prejudices there due to people being so litigious there. I think I was so shocked as because we look alike and speak the same language we expect the people to be just like us, they are not! I am glad I had my experiences of living abroad over a couple of decades but I am now happily, and permanently, back in the UK. I wish you and your lovely wife nothing but great things on your journey through life together x

    As a typical example of a stubborn Korean, I completely understand your perspective. With the hype around South Korea and its cultural exports, this country has received a lot of attention-some of it undeserved. Some fans of Korean culture have started to idealize life here. While visiting as a tourist can be enjoyable, living here is an entirely different experience. The version of Korea portrayed in the media is often overly optimistic. Many progressive Western ideas are shown in K-media, but they’re often just abstract concepts that don’t reflect daily life here. These seemingly open-minded images are mixed together by creative producers, some of whom may not fully understand the ideas they’re presenting.
    When it comes to LGBTQ issues, Koreans largely don’t have a real understanding of what that entails. Most of us can’t imagine having LGBTQ neighbors simply because we haven’t had much experience with multicultural or diverse communities. Without that exposure, people don’t tend to have strong feelings about it-positive or negative.
    Over the past couple of years, I’ve noticed more foreigners coming to realize that cultural differences can be challenging to navigate. They need to be sufficiently compensated for all those hardships. Like, I can tell you what they want to hear as long as they PAY me as you guys say behind our back ^^. But the overall situation in here is not prospective anymore. I feel like I'm on the sinking ship these days. It sounds like your timing to leave is good.
    I am sure we Koreans definitely will make some effort fixing things and make this country a better place.

    • @kristinesharp6286
      @kristinesharp6286 2 місяці тому

      @@miyounova privacy of patients is a relatively new phenomenon. You are confused with HIPPA acts that provide for standards of privacy and security of health information typical in western countries. Those are relatively new. It is just wrong to say that Korean health care professionals don’t take the Hippocratic oath. There are medical ethics there. For centuries medical practitioners took the oath and it never translated into privacy. They would not have had to make a law about it 30 years ago in the U.S. if it always included that. Just cause you deem privacy to be ethical in 2024 does not mean the oath shared that particular detail. Of course in Korea it’s hard to be private with no many patients in a room, their guardians responsible for most practical care while in hospital and in the case of employees the employer has some responsibility for care if their family is in provinces or the employee is a foreigner and their family abroad. There is the entire guardian thing in Korea. With all those extra people in the room, patients and personal caregivers outside of medical staff, it’s hard to be private. It reminds me of the old fashioned confessionals. Even in the U.S. if you are out enough days schools and employer require a doctors note saying you are clear to return. Especially if you are taking family medical leave or on workman’s comp for a surgery. Lots can be kept private in comparison to Korea.

    Heh then in the end Singapore would have been a better choice. Yes we're expensive and the heat & humidity sucks, but we are anal about safety, you cannot even get your own medical information over the phone it must all be in person, and lastly we are a meritocracy (you might even be favoured because of your race, a little leftover bias due to our past as a british colony 😅😅). This is all in general, there have been exceptions here and there, but generally-speaking the issues you face in Korea are not problems here.
