    Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. It's always good when we can learn from each others' experiences. One thing you may have done, but didn't mention, is cleaning the inner surface of the drain plug. Since the plug contains a magnet, it collects metallic residue produced as the ferrous-based metal parts in the transaxle wear over time. It's common to find the inside surface of the drain plug covered in a grey, metallic "mud". A cotton swab and some brake cleaner are effective at removing it.

      R C, YES, thanks for mentioning that. I did clean off the magnet as well as both surfaces (drain plug and transmission) around the crush washer.

    Toyota equipped your Prius with one of the best engineered transmissions ever made.
    As long as you don’t notice any drips or wet spots around your Prius’s transmission casing or directly under it, you don’t have to ever worry about it.

      An excellent transmission with the occasional service should last forever.

    Never understood people using pumps for ATF fills... its so easy to bring a tube down from the top and not make a huge mess of your pump. Also it allows precise filling when you don't have any easy job like this when all you do it fill until it comes out. I did this job and measured exactly what came out (never been done and was original fill) and refilled exactly the amount. Definately an easy job in this car.

    I use the same transmission fluid on 3 Priuses I have own. Over 700k miles and have never had a transmission problem. The engine is go bust way before in my opinion. I've have used toyota 's brand for atf ws or antifreeze and a few times but have never had an issue with what they sell at napa or autozone.

      Thanks for adding your experience!! I get so many comments saying “never use anything but Toyota fluid”, “you’re going to destroy your transmission”. IMHO, and experience, that’s not true at all. I’m glad you’ve had the same experience!

      ​@@bennieaust Yeah and 700k is what i put on them. I bough them all used with 115-140k miles, one lasted until 375k before the engine blew, the other like 500k before the same happen and I am on my third and I got it with 115k and now have around 250k. I've been a uber driver for awhile as you can tell. I worked on the car myself and have found only a few parts absolutely need to be OE, not the oils and liquids though. I've never got better or worst performance or mileage using non Toyota brand fluids. Only thing that you should use if you drive 7-10k miles a month like me is a full advanced synthetic motor oil like that kind supertech from walmart sells that just helps the engine when it's coming up on 5k miles, when I change the oil. For me that twice a month sometimes.

      @@namenotfound8747 Thank you for your comment. I've been leery of using anything but Toyota fluids. However, my daughter has my first 2004 Prius with 287K on it so I'm going to give the Maxlife a go. Thanks again for the helpful videos. We changed out both the front and rear struts/shocks last week with the help of your videos. Keep them coming.

    Please guide, as prous had cvt transmission... So does we had to change the transmission oil when car is completely cool or even we can change it even soon after drive

      You can change it after a drive but I would let it cool a bit so you’re not dealing with hot transmission fluid.

    What was the mileage on it when you changed it?

      The spec for this transmission is type WS.

      This is NOT really a CVT like you find in other cars. Actually, this "transmission" is not really a transmission at all. What's in there are two electric motors and a planetary gear set. The gas engine is also connected to the planetary gear set. The computer system balances the speed and direction of the two electric motors as well as the speed of the gas engine to provide for all road speeds of the car (and reverse). The reason these last nearly forever is because there is no mechanical slippage at all (no clutch packs or bands like an automatic and no variable pitch chain like a CVT). Truly amazing engineering.
      There ARE a lot of bearings in there, the one planetary gear set, a reduction gear set, the final drive gears, and a drive chain (cog chain, not CVT chain). So changing the oil is important if you want to run the car past Toyota's design mileage. This "transmission" is nearly bulletproof and many of them have lasted a long time.
