Hey Ruky, they still use them today, to get from the UK to the isle of whight, i used to live on the island where they pulled up on the beach and let people off or on, great way to travel, the only down fall was if the sea got a bit rough, they were the first to be cancelled, so you would have to get the catamaran, and if it got really bad in the channel, you would have to get the car ferry

There is a tunnel now, and you can take the train the hovercraft was too expensive and to noisy..
