The Color OneScanner was from an era when device makers were starting to incorporate smart termination into their devices, which basically detects whether or not something is plugged into each port, and enabling the termination if one side is open. I'm not 100% certain whether or not this particular model has this capability, but if it does then he's just fine.
Still waiting, for part 3 Still waiting, for part 3 Still waiting, for part 3 still waiting, for part 3 still waiting, for part 3 still waiting, for part 3 part 3, still waiting part 3, still waiting part 3, still waiting STILL WAITING!
If you watch the segment at the end of the video, the scanner's internal diagnostics are detecting a problem, which is why the message changed once he got the SCSI IDs figured out. Granted, proper termination is important for a SCSI chain, but it's not the cause of this particular issue.
IT'LL LITERALLY BLOW YOUR FACE OFF WITH ITS FIVE AND A QUARTER INCH PROFILE! WHO HAS TIIIME FOR SISSY HARD DRIVES THAT COME WITH MANUALS AND DRIVER DISKS MAN, WE'RE BADASS WE DON'T NEED DONE OF THAT! IT'S SO BIG IT'LL MAKE YOUR OPTICAL DRIVES NERVOUS TO BE AROUND. DAMN RIGHT! AND IF YOU'VE GOT A DUAL DRIVE SETUP YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO GET YOUR SECONDARY OUTTA THERE IF YOU WANNA FIT THIS BIG BOY IN THERE!!
NOSTALGIC DRIVE SPINNING SOUND! IT MAKES YOUR OPTICAL DRIVES NERVOUS TO BE AROUND! ITS SO BIG, YA GOTTA PUT IT IN THROUGH THE FRONT! ITS SO LARGE I NEARLY DIDN'T FIT! THE QUANTUM BIGFOOT TX!
HappySlappyFace I got a free iMac G4, 2 iMac G3s, a eMac, a iBook G3, and a broken SE/30 from my computer store, cause the boss hates macs. Although I couldn't get the unknown G4 laptop
Yeah, when you extract old Mac archives on anything other than Mac OS, you lose the resource forks, and on older Macs, that's what sets the file type and icon, not the extension. You can tell it's an old Mac archive if the PC sees "_MACOS" files and folders in it. There are tools that try to fix PC-extracted files by making a new resource fork but they don't always work.
I would think by now you would have a shared network drive with all your os versions and installers etc on it. I know older macs wont network boot, but you should still be able to view and copy the data, instead of relying on floppy disks...
What I didn't expect was the 420 serial number at the end... I was eating and just that sequence of events just made me laugh with food in my mouth and choke.
That SCSI ID problem is probably why the SE 30 and the II weren't recognizing their internal drives. There's a good chance that they'll work just fine as long as you don't connect the scanner to them with the flaky ID setting. Also, the older version of AppleScan was meant for Apple's grayscale scanners, like the original OneScanner. It doesn't see this scanner because it didn't exist when the software was made. For that matter, Hyperscan would probably have the same problem, even if you did have HyperCard or HyperCard Player on that Mac. HyperCard was never designed for color, and even the later versions that had color support (2.2 and up) had only hacky support for it.
8:27 macs have a special header on each file that defines the file type and other stuff. windows does not support that header so it gets removed on windows. linux and beos/haiku also use a header. windows only looks at the extension in the file name, that's why it works the other way around.
So, uh, is the carriage unlocked? A lot of scanners have a small screw on the underside that you need to unscrew to unlock the carriage. It's commonly done for transport to prevent the scanner from getting jostled.
I'm starting to think part 3 might never get released.... What am I saying!? Of course it will get released some day! I just need to be more patient and wait until it's ready.
1:15 "It has a F*cking Quantum Big Foot". But wait a sec, in that Windows ME video you said : Bigfood ain't no slave, it's so big it even scares your optical drives". A well, a here in one country is a villain in the other. This is a villain bigfoot.
I'm incredibly curious to know if a linux will be able to do anything with this thing now. I think I heard somewhere it doesnt like SCSI things, but I have no way of testing that myself. So yeah, curious.
The serial number foretells a great prophecy! It must be fate for you to get this working!! Though if you can't we completely understand as this looks atrocious to deal with lmao
Ah... these old scanners still had fluorescent lightbulbs instead of whatever LED shit they use nowadays. I know I'd just gut it for the inverter if it were me. As for why, well, because it's an easy high-voltage source.
Wouldn't you have saved a bunch of time finding a NuBUS NIC and getting a little AppleTalk LAN going? Just get the 800k machine to write it's install disks sort of thing?
Why you don't make a Virtual Machine on your main system with Mac OS VmWare? i Used for my Apple devices (ipod classic) it may eazy your work with thos old apple systems... ;) (Mostly its runs fine... on my notebook with W7 x64 OS X 10.11) i have some document how to install.
Hey Druaga, I found something that might help you in a lot of your Mac adventures: macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-legacy-software-recovery-cd This disc was released by Apple, and it boots to System 7.6.1. It has a lot of system software, as well as some software, including OneScanner programs. I think you will find it quite useful!
Everytime that i watch one of your videos i imagine that you are Data from startrek for some reason. Your voice sometimes sounds like Brent Spiners.. :)
install a scsi terminator............ (on the scanner)
Colin Stuart oh no a terminator.

Who needs a SCSI Terminator? We're doing this the Druaga1 way.

DID YOU EVER GET A TERMINATOR ON THE OTHER SCSI PORT ON THE SCANNER?
Sorry for the shouting, but that may be your problem.
If you watch the segment at the end of the video, the scanner's internal diagnostics are detecting a problem, which is why the message changed once he got the SCSI IDs figured out.

Anyone else notice that as ID 1 the scanner Product Id was "SCANNER II", but when he changed the ID to 4 it went to "SCANNER III"?
Send it to the 8 bit guy and watch him get frustrated with it.
"Hi I installed something bye"
/s
the Spaceballs parts were top notch
skipped school to watch again, thx bro
It's not rocket science to watch after you come home.
armanelgtron maybe he should post it at a user friendly time so I don't have to go to such drastic measures
We need an SSD to SCSI adapter
I think that this episodic release of bigger projects is better than a single hour long video. Love your shit, man.
didnt YOU put that bigfoot in there?
I was going to go to sleep right now
Lel
that was a good video
druaga brings joy to mondays

But that might make videos too short :p
I still have a floppy with 420 on a label if you want matching numbers.
What I didn't expect was the 420 serial number at the end... I was eating and just that sequence of events just made me laugh with food in my mouth and choke.

That's some power ejection your Mac has there *wink*

Thanks for making school lunches more entertaining
I never thought I was gonna see that Mac II again.
I wish SSDs were the Bigfoot sizes too
when you have homework but Druaga1 uploaded a new video
You got me at "I wish that all SSDs would be this big... like 600TBs"
Vote Druaga1! Make Floppies Great Again!
Rule #1 Never download or unzip old mac software on windows !!!
Nothing ever works in Druaga1's videos.
i want more vlogs about Druaga's life
You should get a Powerbook 1400 or one of those other 'in-between' Macs if you want to copy between 1.44M and 800k floppies.
We now introduce
CGA for Macintosh!
NOW PUT IT IN THE TRASH CAN
Great Scott! Such a chore... seriously, with my nerves, I would throw everything out of the window in less than four hours... :D
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but Mac II series need a special Mac to VGA adapter to avoid the color issues (pink).
Still waiting for Part 3
I'm starting to think part 3 might never get released.... What am I saying!? Of course it will get released some day! I just need to be more patient and wait until it's ready.

What was I saying? Better question, what was I thinking of when I was making this comment?
1:15 "It has a F*cking Quantum Big Foot".
But wait a sec, in that Windows ME video you said : Bigfood ain't no slave, it's so big it even scares your optical drives".

So, druaga1, was there ever a breakthrough after this episode?

I thought those .scr files were way too small to be windows exes.
Does your capture card support the crazy resolutions and refresh rates Apple computers usually use?
i saw a new video nofication while in school, im like I MUST GO HOME AND WATCH IT.
Is that Dogcow you're talking about in the description around the 11 minute mark on the mac desktop ,behind the window on the left?
Ah... these old scanners still had fluorescent lightbulbs instead of whatever LED shit they use nowadays. I know I'd just gut it for the inverter if it were me. As for why, well, because it's an easy high-voltage source.

Now, put it in the trash can.
-Civil Protection, 2004
The Half-Life sample was pleasant.
part 3?
I think you're gonna need a good long smoke after this one.
Just disassemble it and try to clean or fix whats broken, and try the software with the error again. I doubt you could break it anymore then it is..
legends say that if you're early druaga will reply or pin you.
