Andy, thanks for yet another delightful video. I, too, was surprised by the diversity of fauna in Hercules Glades. I suppose I shouldn't have been, as I spent (or, rather, misspent) my first year of university at Rolla, Mo., and was surprised at the difference between that terrain and that of my native Southern Illinois. The LaRue Pine hills and swamp are incredibly different in both plant and animal life. The Pine hills are a sort of cline that bridges eastern species with western, but only in certain instances. Both areas are fascinating. As I believe I wrote in one of our earlier exchanges, if you ever return to walk Snake Road please let me know. I'd enjoy walking it with you. Like I have said before, your presentations are great. I would urge you to keep 'em coming, but I'm pretty certain you will. Thanks, again. Les Lannom

Great vid! I miss herping MO. I found more critters there than here in AZ! A truly wonderful ecosystem you have there. Preserve it!

Subbed ✌. Just found your channel. Im local near kankakee but frequent quite a few different glade areas west and south of St Louis. - those speckleds love those treeline rocks. Never been to the Hercules glades area - maybe this fall or next spring.

This was awesome Andrew! (and John and Zach of course!) When you first mentioned that you had found Giant Desert Centipedes and tarantulas in Missouri I was very surprised, I never would have expected those species to be native that far north. You really gave a great overview of this habitat, I learned a ton and it was amazing to see all the incredible wildlife of such a wild place. You have added a new destination to my radar, I have to visit Hercules Glades sometime! The Speckled King and Yellow-bellied Racer were really cool to see, and the diversity of butterflies and arachnids you found was amazing as well. The bird life was also incredible, that Summer Tanager was a stunner. I can’t wait to see the second part of your Missouri episodes! Great work as always.

Thanks guys! Missouri is a really amazing place. Our swamp video will come out next Monday but I’ve decided we just don’t have the content for the river video. The third installment regarding Wilderness areas will have to wait for this (hopefully post-Covid) summer!

Did you hear the cougar while out there? Heard him on three separate occasions. Never seen him though.

Got yourself a new subscriber. I would of caught that tarantula though, they are pretty easy to catch depending on what kind it is, used to catch a bunch of them during mating season at night in the desert of el paso texas.

I wish someone would make a good, long video on the ecology of Southwest Missouri. Its always about hiking and hunting/fishing and small snippets but no real enviromental biology or ecology.

It is an amazing area that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. This was my best attempt to put something cohesive together from a camping trip I took there when I was younger, but I hope to get back someday and truly do it justice!

Yup, a bit of a throwback but I felt the content was too good not to share! Our next video is from around the same time (2012) but comes from swamps with cottonmouths, sirens, and other swamp critters!
