I had the honor of meeting Allen today when I traveled to Olde English Outfitters. What a knowledgeable personable gentleman. The store is top notch with a complete inventory of rifle, pistols, shotguns, reloading supplies, ammunition, and archery. I bought a Henry .360 buckhammer for the best price anywhere in the state. Take the time and visit the store, you will be happy, very happy!

You were very kind to the lawmakers with no firearms experience. They mandated straight wall cartridge specs that already exist in the 30-30 and 35 Remington.

Went to Johnson's Sporting Goods up here in Adrian Michigan and picked this up, along with a couple boxes of Federals. Stunning to look at, and hopefully going to take a few deer with it.

Here in Indiana there is a length limit so that .38-55, .375 Win, and .45-70 are not legal but the BH is. Perfect round for us here.

Thank you! For an explanation on the straight wall cartridge that makes sense. I live in Texas so it doesn't apply here. But I wanted to know what it was all about. I have a couple other Henrys. This will probably be my next.

I'm very interested in this cartridge, very similar to the 30-30 but a little bit more energy downrange, while being legal for hunting in straight wall states that limit cartridge length. I like the Henry H009X-360BH X Model 360 Buckhammer modernized version. I'm hoping Marlin and Winchester will make a model in this caliber as well.

Henry does need to be commended for introducing the Buckhammer and for continuing to produce the less than popular but wholly dependable rifle, the.35 Remington. Thankfully Ruger saved Marlin from extinction but has been reluctant to continue rifles chambered in .444 Marlin which I consider to be the most perfect of straight walled cartridges. Henry further gains distance from Ruger Marlin by producing the Long Ranger lever actions chambered in high BC calibers like .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester and I think the 6.5 Creedmoor.

I live in Utah, hunt with bolt actions. But I still want one of these. I had a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington and wish I would have kept it. Its just a fun, classic lever gun. But this one I like because it looks like you can make brass from a 30-30.

Actually the parent cartridge for the 360 Buckhammer is the 38-55 which is still produced. Henry, Winchester, and Italian companies chamber the 38-55 in both single shot and lever rifles. Originally produced in 1884, the 38-55 started out as a black powder round which was quite popular at one time and survived into the smokeless powder times. The 30-30 is a slightly shortened 38-55 which has been necked to 30 caliber. The 38-55 was the parent cartridge for some other chamberings as well. Have a 38-55 which I sometimes hunt with. Ammo hard to find but some is still produced. Buffalo Bore loads some really hot cartridges for it. In newer firearms the 38-55 can be made into a quite potent, short range hunting round. Would be easier to make 360 brass from the 38-55 than from the 30-30. Just really hard to find brass for the old girl. Remington refers to the 30-30 as the parent cartridge because most people have no clue what a 38-55 is. In some states, like Michigan, the case on the 38-55 is too long to qualify for hunting in some areas. A short 38-55 would qualify but Remington had already been loading the 35 caliber forever so it was a no-brainer to go to a straight, short cartridge like the 360.

I've had a lot of different caliber rifles in my 66 yrs., most of them being lever action, even had a 350 legend, really nice caliber, but I always come back to my trusted 44 mag, I'll stick with this caliber, it's just right for where I live, not a lot of open territory, so, most of the shooting is close, the bullets fly true outta my 16.5" barrel, maybe a 360 is in my future, shakyjake out.

Great presentation. It seems, however, that once again we have a new cartridge that does what old cartridges already do. I use the .35 Rem for my deer hunting in PA. Love it. But I'm experimenting now with .38-55 Win. Now, that is a powerful, low recoiling, big bore. Gives you a little better performance than the .35 Rem out to 150- 200 yards and is a straight wall cartridge. I wish ammo companies would just focus on making better bullets for existing calibers and, generally, just make more ammo. Another odd ball cartridge that only some ammo companies will support is a bad idea. I bet this "great idea" goes the way of the .356 win. The hunting and shooting world would be better with less magazines so that there would be less writers touting the newest cartridge every six months so that advertisement sponsors keep paying their salaries. Another thought for Ohio: Today's 20 gauge slugs, with manageable recoil, shoot 200 yards all day long. One more thing: God Bless Mr. Sundles and his Buffalo Bore Ammo company. He knows how to maximize performance in every caliber.

@@John-qr9po As to the death knell, you might be right but it shouldn't have to be. I hunt everything with .35 Rem and .358 Win. and when you go to Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, and the like, you really do get stepped up performance. Isn't making better bullets for these fine, existing calibers, and in the process creating versatility within the caliber, a more efficient route than creating a new caliber/cartridge and new rifles chambered for the new calibers? There are 6.5 million Marlin model 336s out there. Since Winchester always dominated the .30-30 spot, I bet half of the old Marlins are .35 Rems. That is called a built-in market. I enjoy reading comments to UA-cam videos and blogs online. There seems to be a lot of people from the northeast down to Florida and over to Texas all clamoring for .35 Rem ammo. I think ammo companies are missing the boat. Henry now offers a side gate model in .35 Rem. I think Ruger/Marlin would be crazy not to offer the 336 in .35 Rem. There are only a few states/zones where only straight walled cartridges are allowed and there is a healthy amount of straight walled choices. What is really crazy is that although Winchester only chambered the model 88 in .358 Win. for two years, and Savage, the model 99 for one year, I seem to get .358 ammo rather easily in Northeast PA. Go figure. I wonder how many .358 BLRs Browning has sold and if this is the reason for available ammo.

Great video as always. hate the name "buckhammer" but the concept is a smart business move making a rimmed lever action rifle caliber that is compliant with straight wall regulations. I love a lever gun for larger heavy pistol calibers like .44 Remington magnum, but not for rifle calibers. see the video "Why I Don't Like Lever Actions" by TFLTV for more info than I can get into here. as far as straight wall cartridges go, where I live in Maryland we have a very different law than many midwestern states. Western Maryland counties have legal bottleneck cartridges but in the eastern counties where they used to just allow slug guns you can now use straight wall too. the interesting thing about the straight wall law in MD is that there is no maximum OAL but there is a minimum muzzle energy is 1,200 foot pounds. So for me, I would LOVE a 45-70 with heavy for caliber bullets in the 525-550 grain range shot subsonic through a converted suppressed sporter Siamese Mauser (or less ideally a converted sporter Enfield like the old Gibbs rifle conversions, the summit and frontier rifles). this meets the muzzle energy requirement in a subsonic suppressed round. sounds pretty perfect to me.

    .556x 45mm shoots 48" low at 400 yards.
    .308 is 60" low at 500 yards.
Make rifles from elevated stands legal. Politicians steal your rights under false pretenses.

The 360 BH duplicates the old and obsolete 356 Win. round, but with a straight case. The 356 did not catch on because it kicked too hard so the 360 will have the same problem. The 375 Win. , another old obsolete round similar in performance to the 360 BH, did not catch on either. The other hurdle for the 360 BH is the abundance of cheap bolt action rifles in 350 Legend. It kicks less and does a good job on deer. The bolt acton rifles tend to be more accurate than lever action ones. For these reasons, it is unlikely the 360 BH will catch on.

The quality of my Ruger American in 350 Legend doesn't come close to the quality of a Henry. Like most things in life you get what you pay for. In the straight walled states the 360 BH will sell great and they are accurate. Put a scope on it and you got a nice 200yd lever gun. I will be selling my Ruger as soon as I replace it with a 360 Henry BH.@@PassivePortfolios

It’s a lever action rifle. It’s not an accurate platform. It never was and it never will be. It is nice for nostalgia reasons but the public will eventually opt for the 400 legend in a very accurate bolt action rifle or AR platform that will be sub MOA. You can say it’s accurate enough for hunting but it that won’t mean anything when it comes to purchase time.
