watching this while having an upcoming flight feels crazy
It does not phase me, still uncredibly unlikely
I’m leaving from korea in 3 days 🙃
Fun fact: Your more likely to die in travelling by car than travelling by plane, this is because plane travel requires all of the things to be right before taking off, like 10 checks on everything, so crashing is very unlikely, the reason it's only scary is because you only need one crash to kill hundreds. So if you feel safe taking the bus all the time, you have no reason to be scared of the plane.
Make sure you are Not flying Boeing!

The sound of the engines roaring is worrying, seems to be a huge issue with hydraulics. No flaps, no wheels, only one engine set to reverse or damaged and going by the speed it looks like the pilots had the throttles set to max, aircraft was not slowing down. A very complex crash, just wondering what the pilots were up against. Walls at ends of runways need to be removed.
if i had to guess, maybe the pilot realized partway thru the landing that they weren't gonna make it or maybe his gears were still up or something, and throttled up, but by that time too late to go around on one engine, and they were committed?

If anyone is wondering about the wall. It’s not a regular retention wall at the end of the airport. This is a wall placed near the end of the runway to hold the ILS Localizer equipment. They foolishly designed in on a thick concrete wall instead of stilts in the ground like most modern runways. Either way, there would have been damage to the aircraft, but not catastrophic damage like this.
I personally think it was developers decision to make extra buck with construction.

737-800 it looks like. I work for a big airline here in the USA. My thoughts and prayers to the people lost on that flight.
It seems every crash people jump to the conclusion it was a bird strike. Bird strikes are not that devastating. It was not a bird strike that caused this crash. that's for sure.
Large birds can cause catastrophic damage.
Whilst in the RAF my squadron (29 sqn) lost a Phantom F4 when it encountered a flock of geese on take-off. Both engines quit and the pilot and navigator ejected safely. The aircraft crash landed straight ahead. It was fitted with a huge centerline reconnaissance pod, which was crushed on arrival and absorbed much of the energy. I was the senior engineering officer on the squadron and a member of the unit enquiry team. Luckily the aircraft did not catch fire and it was relatively undamaged. There was evidence of the aircraft being hit by more than 20 birds. The was also video (film it was in the late 70s) taken by plane spotters which showed the event.
Large birds are a serious threat to all aircraft, particularly during take-off and landing.
@christopherrobinson7541 was it similar to The Miracle in the Houston River?
@@christopherrobinson7541 Point well taken, but there are many things that went wrong that cannot be explained by a bird strike. The landing gear was not deployed, the engines were roaring till the very last second, the wings were not configured for landing, and only one of the thrust reversers was deployed. It looks like a very complex crash that cannot be explained by a simple bird strike. Let's wait and see.

Right behind that wall was another wall to prevent the plane from going onto a roadway and into a residential area. It seems pretty likely to be a massive pilot failure: Landing gear not deployed, flaps not deployed, touching down way too late at too high speed ( failing to go around), wrong engine shut down (or the other was also damaged when it was not shown), and who knows what else.
Horrifying to see the whole thing happen so clearly, those minutes and seconds of absolute horror.
Tragedy.
It didn't skid off runway, landing gear didn't fully deploy and it slid into a concrete wall, had this airport not put a barrier at the end and instead left room to slide or put sand everyone would have survived, stop gaslighting the truth
They seem to be blaming the landing gear but this can be lowered manually in an emergency.
The 737 has redundant hydraulic systems with electric pumps plus the manual gear extension. Sounds like they still had one engine running plus APU. The odds of complete failure due to a bird strike seems highly unlikely. I would like to know the experience and training of the crew. Did they follow procedures, did they take the time to properly evaluate the systems after the bird strike? Even if the gear was deployed and failed to lock, you would still see the gear dragging below.
@@trevorbryant4360 Yeah this is a really weird one. The aircraft looks completely controllable so hydraulics was probably not entirely lost if at all. I don't get it. I'm trying to stay open minded but this looks a lot like human error at the moment.
From what I'm told, they couldn't gain altitude after the go around, and could only turn 180 degrees to land in the opposite direction (tear drop manouver) so it was probably a really quick situation and they couldn't lower the gear via the alternate gear drop.
Imagine to the people who canceled the flight.
I’m confused why is there that barrier at the airport???
because that's the end of the airport property. it's probably roads or other buildings over that wall

If a train where to be going at high speeds, it would go through the barrier and skid through the grass field and maybe a few roads before coming to a stop..
As someone about to go to flight school. These recent plane incidents are really worrying me.
It shows that the "pilots" being trained are not really pilots .they are now really just cockpit managers...just managing switches and monitoring the status of the plane....good example recall the Asianan flight that crashed at SFO...pilots were not flying the plane, but monitoring the systems as it was approaching the end of run way and not piloting the plane
@@pgee8702 Don’t disparage commercial pilots like that, especially these. You have no idea how difficult it is to navigate an emergency where one or many things are going wrong at once and the constant split-second decisions that need to be made could either save the plane or kill everyone.
You should be worrying about the climate change that causes plane crash. The mother earth is damaged more and more each day and there are bound to have more plane crashes due to this.
These airline companies do nothing but cheap out on everything. Much more as of recently.
Normally I would disagree about being worried, but in recent years airline companies as well as plane manufacturers are only concerned about shareholders and increasing profits each quarter. That comes at the expense of quality control and cutting corners on maintenance. I was an aviation structural and hydraulics mechanic in the US Navy and then into civilian life for years. I have never seen a single engine bird strike knock out hydraulic system A and the reserve hydraulic system like this crash. They were left with Hydraulic System B which only controls certain things. For instance System A controls extending the landing gear and System B controls retracting them. Something is seriously wrong with the explanation that it was just a bird strike.

sue the airport!
Why would they sue the airport? Having either a wall or embankment is extremely common at more compact airports. With how fast they were going, no matter what happened it was going to end tragically.
December 2024 will forever be remembered as a month of unimaginable chaos and tragedy, where the fragility of human systems was exposed on a global scale. First, the catastrophic crash of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 on Christmas Day-a civilian plane struck by a missile in militarized airspace near Kazakhstan-sent shockwaves through the world, revealing the deadly risks of geopolitical conflicts intersecting with commercial aviation. Then, just days later, South Korea was devastated by the fiery collapse of Jeju Air Flight 2216, where a routine landing turned into the nation’s deadliest aviation disaster. These tragedies, while separate in cause, are deeply connected by systemic failures: aging aircraft, distracted governments, and the dangerous overlap of war zones and civilian skies.
But this isn’t just about planes falling from the sky-it’s about a world at a breaking point. South Korea is already reeling from political turmoil, with impeachment trials and protests paralyzing leadership, while global air travel has become a pressure cooker of overworked crews and neglected fleets. Add in military operations spilling into civilian zones, and December has become a month of reckoning. These disasters aren’t just tragedies; they are warnings. How many more lives must be lost before the world takes aviation safety and geopolitical accountability seriously? This is bigger than any one country-this is a call for global change

What about the UAP drones?
Adherence to long held traditions & standards should be the first course of action .
It is impossible that a bird strike could have caused this, the wheels could not deploy and why was there a concrete block at the end of the runway?
The wall was to protect a residential area.
Birds were sucked into the right engine seizing it and causing hydraulic pump failure because it is powered by the engine and electrical is also provided by the engines so no engine no pressure and no electrical power and the backup pump is electrical I can see in a video there are no flaps and those are actuated electrical so it looks like they lost everything and did an awesome job not crashing and landing like they did
@@Lightning-bolSo incorrect. 😂 Losing one engine would never cause a total loss of hydraulics, nor cause the gear to be inoperable. There are two redundant hydraulic systems in the 737 and the engine can be isolated. There are also electrically driven pumps (EMDPs), and 3 other sources of electricity to power them- the APU, the other engine, and the batteries. Lastly, the gear can be manually/ gravity dropped if there were a total hydraulic failure. Everything you said is just wrong…
@@Lightning-bol that makes no sense. A single engine failure shouldn't take out the whole hydraulic system since modern jets are able to fly with just one engine. Also, the landing gear should be deployable even with the loss of pressure: planes specifically have emergency release systems for that case. A bird strike also shouldn't affect the auxiliary power. To me it looks like there was something fundamentally wrong with that plane, not just a bird strike.
To be fair, I don't want to do armchair investigations here (it feels somewhat disrespectful), just wanted to say that for a simple bird strike it's a catastrophic failure and a normal plane shouldn't behave that way.

If the wall weren't there it definitely seems like this could have been more survivable. In the coming months, as the ATC transcripts are recovered along with the FDR and CVR, we'll learn more. A lot of people are going to blame Boeing but it's important to remember that these aircraft are very redundant in their systems. It came in gear up, very fast and not configured for landing. It's important to be objective in this situation. We will learn from this and flying will be safer than it already is now because of it.
No RAT system on the 737's because of the other backup systems.
@@trevorbryant4360 You are right. I work around E175s, 319/320s and CRJ7s, all of which do have a RAT. I'm actually surprised by that.
Why is it being filmed?
Engineers need to invent something to slow down the plane like we see in aircraft carriers
They have. It’s a soft concrete that crumbles and slows aircraft down, called arresting material. It’s installed at the end of runways in most major airports in the US. The real question here is why the aircraft ran out of runway / was still going so fast and why they chose a runway with a structure so close to the end. These gear up landings are usually safe and end well.
In Korean media, if one of the two engines fails, reverse propulsion is impossible. Also, the airport runway is short, the aircraft fell in the middle, the landing gear is broken, and the area around the airport is a migratory bird sanctuary. It is a type of airplane that cannot be thrown away oil.
Or, airports cannot have a structure immediately at the end of a runway. The impact was so rough it looked like something out of Looney Tunes
@@junghoonbanRunway is NOT short, it is over 9,000 ft. 벽을 왜 설치한거야. 슬프네요
Did the Pilot know he had a landing gear problem. Release the audio recording of the tower and the pilot. If no mention of landing gear in the conversation then it is a plane malfunction or pilot forgot to lower gear (highly unlikely he forgot). If piot knew he had no landing gear, then could he have been routed to a different airport with a very long runway if he had enough fuel. Runway was to short for a belly landing, on a long runway this had a better chance for survival.
Seeing as he also didn't have flaps or spoilers deployed, he probably knew something was very wrong. Also, this footage is from a news station that probably got word an emergency had been declared from this aircraft. That's why they were filming.
No runway will save it. Belly landing is hard crash. The pilot could have chose ocean landing. Float above ocean and wait for rescue.
It was a bird strike on the landing descent. Couldnt use landing gear, and since they were already mid descent when they lost the engine, couldnt pull up.
At least that is the news in Japan atm. A lot of unfortunate things came together to cause this...
And this was the second go around.
@@arbitration2481 this plane you can usually lower landing gear even with hydraulic failure though, so it is very unlikely that a mere bird strike would take out the engine, the hydraulics for the landing gear, and prevent manual gear lowering too. also this plane is capable of flying on 1 engine too, in fact i believe there are 200 recorded instances of this plane model flying and landing on 1 engine. very odd and a lot of questions.

It seems like the engines are working at high speed, hearing their sound. Looking at the engine cover I can see a black gap, like the reverse is active. Did they try to reverse with no gear? The plane seems not to be slowing down at all.

@@pumpkinflop5014there’s been 3 deadly airplane accidents within the past 2 days
Highways have runaway truck ramps, yet runways have freaking walls at the end of it !?
there are airports like that in the world like in Hearklion Crete. If you don't take off you're basically screwed up either in the water 100 ft belowe on one side or against concrete fence on the other but this is due airport location rather than insane idea to intentionally put concrete block at the end of the runway
You should feel happier investing or donating to developing countries than flying for fun. And you should reduce carbon dioxide.
Let’s hope all the brick walls are removed from any other airports. As these people would have survived this disaster RIP. All you people that think god is everything how people have died since 25 12…
So terrific and heartbreaking .....My heartfelt condolences to the families of deceased persons😢😢😢
why there is wall at the end . not a runaway ramp.
Apparently, it's part of the ILS - Instrument Landing System. It helps guide aircraft to the runway in low visibility conditions
Rest in peace 🕊
Horrible. May the passengers R.I.P and bless the two who lived. Condolences to the families. 🙏✝️
wait this happened Dec 29. bruh for me its still Dec 28
The landing gear wasn’t down and it looked like they tried to do a belly landing but failed. Very tragic!
Landing gears kahan the?
It's looks like the pilot has nailed the landing as the plane was slowing down on the runway.....but there is no escaping the grim reaper at the end.
"Hey, let's put a wall at the end of the runway!"
I know right??!!!
@@maxmoser412 yes because it’s the END OF THE RUNWAY… how long do you need it to be??? Might as well extend your garage to 200ft just in case you hit the gas pedal one day 🙄
9100ft runway with a highway perpendicular beyond the overrun portion…how much longer of an overrun would you like?
@@rcintheskythey should have speed arresting material not just a wall
If this has anything to do with an autopilot system on a 737, goodnight Boeing.
Is it possible to open the emergency door when it is still dragging on the lane?
Where are the wheels
What did we just see? a solid wall at the end of a runway? if landing gear not deployed there are probably 10 other runways the could use. Place is small.
First, they had a political crisis that nearly led to the fall of democracy, then they had such bad economic collapse that the Korean Won is now worth $0.00068 USD, and now they have a tragic aviation disaster. All in 1. Single. Month. **COULD THINGS GET ANY WORSE FOR SOUTH KOREA???**
There are not enough comments on the fact that Boeing did it again
My deeply condolences to the families.
