Stan's smooth lyrical style of playing is incomparable. You can feel the waves falling and rising with every note, along with a cool summer breeze and the perfect sunset every time.
This excact tune with Getz is the epitome of "summer" for me. I listen to it every summer, when the weather is warm, the sun stays up all night (in norway) and you enjoy beer with friends.
If you liked this, and particularly if it connotes summer for you, maybe you should also try Paul Desmond quartet's album Easy Living (try it in the summer, that is)
sounds like youre living the life man, greetings from small town Illinois u.s.a! i have an album that gives me the same feeling. whatevers fair - howard roberts quartet
Awesome, sheer beauty. Who would not like this? Don't miss the cd it's in, Luiz Bonfa with great Stan Getz, the guy who brought the bossa nova to us all. One of the best saxos ever.
Two albums were released with the name "Big Band Bossa Nova" in 1962. The other was produced by Quincy Jones and even has some of the same musicians as the Getz/McFarland album.

This track IS from that album, originally. It looks like Verve created a series of recordings much later, called 'Jazz Round Midnight', and there is one that has a compilation of various Bossa Nova songs by various artists, including Getz. But the album you mention is the original. I have both the LP and the CD.
That guitar intro is common for this tune, regardless of what instrument it's played on. The figure is there in the original version in the 1959 movie, though it's not used as an intro. If EWF have used it, they most likely borrowed it from some version of this tune.

Stan's sax sound is so GOOOOOOOOD!
QUE MAGISTRAL Y BONITA INTERPRETACION DE MAÑANA DE CARNAVAL FELICIDADES ESTOY ENAMORADO DE SU PAIS BRASIL SUS MUJERES Y SU PAISAJES 🎉❤😊
I have this tune on at least six Stan Getz CD"s, and I never get tired of it.
This is absolute beauty in musical form.
I can tell it's Stan Getz after 2 notes. What a beautiful and unique sound he got from his sax.
Anybody know how he articulates the notes? Not T-Tonguing. Glottal stops? Something else? I do not play sax, FYI.
Agreed. His horn is and will always be special. Can not be imitated.

the sound ! I LOVE YOU...
I like Paul Desmond's version of this tune, but somehow, I find this so powerful! It just moves my soul!
It begins to tell, 'round midnight -- a day in the life of a fool, a sad and a long lonely day, I walk the avenue....
Also known as "A Day In The Life of A Fool" -- gorgeous song from the award-winning Brazilian movie "Black Orpheus"
Stan Getz forever.
Uau........ milhões de vezes ouvindo salve Bonfá!

We played this song for a part in our marching band show.

Check out the rare album "Focus". The compositions were written with Stan in mind!
I think I like this one the most.
Verveeld nooit.
👏🏼 Bravo 👏🏼
Maravilhoso
love it black orpheous
Phenomenal 🙏🏼
superStan!
The first few bars sounds a lot like Stairway to Heaven.
The guitar intro is the verse to Earth Wind and Fire's "Fantasy." Anyone know if there's a connection?

+Bill Benzon Thank you. I came to the tune through the version on Big Band Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones.
I hear the EWF now, but at first, I thought it was Stairway to Heaven.
Good point. I wouldn't be surprised.
@@BillBenzon that's the great Jim Hall playing guitar in the intro is part of the tune
¡Espectacular!
@5:25 excuse me 😊

I adore Stan Getz, but give a listen to Wayne Shorter do this tune...
Listen to Paul Desmond’s version. It is also great.

Dear Mau,
Just listen "O grande amor" played by Stan Getz too. I think you will remember it for all your life !

What's with these 8+minute videos that have less than 6 minutes of music followed by over 2.5 minutes of silence?
Is to appreciate the song. If you include it in a playlist, then you can enjoy a bit silence before starting on something else.
@@xaviervabre4714, dumbest idea I've heard. I have a volume control or pause button if I want silence, otherwise I want to hear music.
The beginning is too fast... 0,75 is much better! Slide up to 1 afterwards...
who's on the guitar
Sounds like Laurindo Almeida
Jim Hall on the guitar (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Band_Bossa_Nova_(Stan_Getz_album))
