Loved this! Full of tons of useful information, I wish I had this video 10 years ago when we first started getting into knitting, thank you
So glad you enjoyed this video! It was a fun one to make, lots of stash hunting. happy knitting 🧶
Great information.
I knit with a group who make sized squares for blankets that are sent to an Aussie concern called Wrapped With Love. They sew the squares together and send them overseas to refugees. It's all volunteer work. We use DK yarn which tends to come in a few thicknesses, depending on the make. I prefer the slightly thicker one because its quicker to knit and holds the shape better.
I generally send the thinner yarn squares to be sewed up and keep the thicker ones to sew into a blanket myself then donate it - my own little challenge.
I started knitting when my Irish Mum taught me, at the age of 5. There have been many, many enjoyable projects over the years.
What a lovely way to knit. Blanket squares are such a joyful knit with benefit for the knitter and the end user. Good idea to pick up the slightly thicker yarn, it does hold the shape better with the stitches. Happy knitting 🧶
This is an invaluable video, so very helpful. When growing up selecting yarn was simpler not the choice of fibers, wool or cotton, and yarn weights were 2ply 4ply or doubl knit. I like using DK but I'm also happy with 2ply in fact give me a Shetland shawl pattern and fine yarn and I'm happy. I'm knitting a baby blanket in 4ply at the moment so peaceful afternoons with my yarn and needles. Bliss
So glad you liked the video. Love a baby blanket! I’m back in DK again, started a new project yesterday evening. Happy knitting 🧶
My go to is mostly DK, as I feel most comfortable with a 4mm hook in my hand & I like the weight of the yarn, but occasionally I have used chunky too 😊.
So much of it can depend on size of hands/fingers and flexibility in the joints as well. Comfort is a big one. Happy knitting 🧶
Hi Hannah, i tend to use aran yarn the most. Sock yarn is the only other one. I very rarely use dk as it takes ages to knit up a project and I've only ever used chunky for a jumper and bobble hat x❤
Aran yarn is a great weight for winter jumpers, especially the cable designs. Happy knitting 🧶
I like DK for garments and of course Sock yarn Thank you for your explanation of yarn weights especially the question on so many tips of the tongue. So once upon a time the "x" ply did refer to the how many plies there were.
So it is used by some in a familiar way to describe a yarn , in the same way no , different than how they are now described as wgts 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.....
So that would explain how sometimes I use 2 of the of 4 ply /sock yarn held together when I want something close to a DK wgt 3 or aka 8 ply .
Yes, the doubling up of single yarns to make thicker ones is such an easy hack. Just need to match the length and you’re ready to go! Happy knitting 🧶
Hannah,I'm still unable to join your channel & therefore am missing the weekly videos on Friday 😩Is there another way I can pay you for my subscription? Many thanks Judy ❤️🙏🧶🧶xx
The knitting Rhythm episodes on Fridays are podcasts, which you can join quite easily. Is that what you’re after? If so I’ll drop a link.
The UA-cam channel episodes are twice monthly, but yes until UA-cam changes its policy and includes particular islands and countries not everyone will be able to join. It’s such an annoying feature of it that not all British Islands can be part of the channel yet. I am considering putting them somewhere else as well. Let me check all the options. I’ll see what’s available. 🧶
@KnitWithHannah Thank you! ❤️🧶🧶
@KnitWithHannah Yes Id like to join the Knitting Rhythm podcasts too please 🤗❤️🧶🧶
