I had a black widow with that style hand grip, real deep, it improved my shooting because it meant less fingers interfering with the shot, admittedly I used a bow sling which allowed me to keep an open hand after the shot.
When asking about the boastringer, I’m talking about the black post. In your video that you string your bows with quickly if you have any plans or instructions on that.
We’re in the process of putting together a video for instructions on building a less expensive version out of construction lumber. That video will have the dimensions listed, which is modeled after our metal one.
Bought the long bow and recurve version of this since they are so inexpensive and like them. Any way... they have a Black Hunter TRIANGLE 58" bow at 30-40LB's... that is interesting... any way thanks for the review. Note... I shoot crossbows and had a lot of extra crossbow limb tip covers and they fit perfect on the recurve so I added them to protect the limb tips... and it strings better for me with them on... later...
You can buy the black hunters or rebranded black hunters pretty much anywhere online. Amazon has em and Ebay also or lots of sporting goods stores carry em
If ya go to my website I've got all the prices there. I've got some great Swift T/Ds in stock right now. They are a lower price than a custom Swift T/D. As far as the black hunters go I do rework new ones for customers
Additional comment: The bow you show in the intro is the one I have with the square bottom limbs. I believe it is made by Weihai Qunying Outdoor Co., Ltd. The one you are reworking is made by Junxing - the ones with the multi-angle bottom of the limbs. They are two different bows. The Weihai bow has excellent fit and finish, well mine does anyway... They can both be seen as labeled "Black Hunter" in their respective company listings ... If I were going to import one, it would be the Weihai bow 😊
What causes the black hunter to shoot left? I've been shooting the black hunter for a year now and I notice my arrows group comfortably just to the left. If I get perfect center shots my arrow flight is erratic and when it shoots about 5" left the arrows go straight so I know it's not a form issue.
@@Bowfella yes you could possibly correct that with paradox, but you'll need to play around with arrow spine stiffness then. However if the perfect spined arrow for your bow weight does not correct that it means its either your release or that the side plate isn't cut deep enough
I have this bow and I’ve had it 2 years. This year it decided to blow the lower limb. Bad thing was, the lower limb exploded during the draw while I had a 190” 12pt buck at 10 yards. Of all times for the lower limb to explode. I’ll never use another “laminated” limb recurve again. Solid fiberglass limbs or solid wood. Laminated limbs have areas of failure.
You'll get far more failures from selfbows than laminated. It's not even close to comparable. As far as solid glass bows they probably won't break very easily, but the performance is terrible from them
@@greatplainsbow I just want a recurve that performs great, that has a low chance of blowing up on me. Having a state record crushing buck at 10yrds and having the bottom limb explode was heart wrenching. I never wanted to quit something ever in my life like I wanted to quit using trad equipment that day. What brand/bow would you consider to be the best/most reliable, that has had the least issues like this?
@@Mulching_man well it is frustrating when bows break, but they all do it from time to time. Compound bows break as well, however what you experienced was an extremely rare event. The black hunter bows are very cheap and should be used as an introduction to traditional archery. If you buy a laminated bow from a company with a great reputation it's highly doubtful you will experience that again. When I say its extremely rare what happened to you I mean that you were full draw on a record buck and it failed. The odds of that happening again are very low, but also if a laminated bow isn't treated right or overdrawn or too light of arrows it can happen from abuse of the bow
@@greatplainsbow I was not at full draw. It broke during the draw back. I was maybe 1/2 draw when it exploded. If ya like give me a call. Eight won too nine for six oh seven seven fore
Man you just helped me figure out why I have to move over to the right to hit my target. It’s not center shot. I just watched your video on making the black hunter a center shot.
Its probably in your best interest to recommend a $75 starter bow.... it gets more future customers into the market for a high end bow down the road. Awesome review
I fired over 1000 arrow plus thru mine and it’s great bow for price. Taken a few pigs and a doe with mine also. Little less forgiving than my old samick sage but I can still shoot really good groups when think about technique but at 50 lbs it thumps anything shoot at. I upgraded string put fur on ends and in strings and tweaked it so it’s pretty quiet too. All in all good product for the money. I have an $800 bow that doesn’t shoot as well. FYI my old Samik sage has taken too many animals to count at this point including stalking and taking a cow elk
@@greatplainsbow that samick was my first recurve and got it for fun but found I shot it well, bought heavier limbs and started taking it to the blind for the challenge years ago. I got comfortable with it so I just kept taking it. Recurves little easier haul around than compound setups. I now have a couple custom bows that are much better (fitted for me) but the Samick sentimental for me since it was first recurve bow harvested game with and it just works. I can be out of practice and still drop arrows on top of each other at 20-30 yards. Then I Bought the BH couple years ago after a utube video because thought it looked good. I like it also. I bought the long bow version later also. They just look good, shoot pretty well for me. Like you talked about in video, I shoot kind of open handed so I like the way grip fits my hand. I enjoy your content and thanks for commenting back.
@@Celticgolfer69 yep the great thing about traditional bows is really it's what you get uses to and competent with. The samick will always be a special bow to you because you accomplished cool things with it. Happy shooting!
I have sinoart branded reflex deflex version. the only real complaint is that draw weight is about 45 lbs instead of 40. But at my length it comes in at about 40 lbs so it worked out for me.
hey, i was originally going for the black hunter but after watching your video i'm considering the swift.. could you perhaps provide me with a link to a website to buy it or its full name?
We'll be coming out with a diy bow stringer build video in the next couple weeks also I'll send you a link of one you can purchase on our website www.greatplainsbow.com/product-page/quick-hitch-bow-stringer

That sounds great for the next video on the black hunter. After seeing what you did with that old remolded bow few videos back. I'd love to see how you would go about this black hunter!
Actually we did go ahead and do all the things we talked about to it, but we didn't film it. If there's enough interest we will buy another one and film the rework
I bought my first bow a pse Promax 62. Finding replacement limbs to go up in draw weight, isn’t easy. So in the $300 range, which bow is the best for finding replacement and upgrade limbs and parts? I want to buy a bow, but one I can upgrade easily as I get stronger. Thanks
I found an old Shakespeare for 40 bucks, 30 pound draw I have a longer than 28 inch draw. Loss to be in good shape straight, recurve. Was that a good bow?
@@greatplainsbow I just ordered today but haven't received any confirmation email and they haven't returned my emails to them yet, that's suspicious. Those bows are all very similar but they are not the same. There is a 58 inch and a 60 inch version of the recurve. The 60 inch recurve version from Lancaster Archery, the "Galaxy Ember" shoots, sounds, and looks better.
I had a black sheep nova thats basically a samick sage clone. Well they shoot a arrow and do work and aint bad bows at all. But compared to my model b it feels soul less. I want something that feels like it has a little soul to it something thats beautiful and will age well.
There's hundreds of factories making that style of bow, and many other types of recurves, Then there's hundreds of other factories making many other styles of compound bows. They are all great looking bows it's just that where they fall short is in the poundage. So to get a 55# bow order a 60#, to get a 50# bow order a 55#,....I ordered a 50# and got a 45# Recurve. A few years back I ordered 2 55# compound bows kind of like 80's era bows,....had tear drop cables so you could change out your own string's. Well they were different brands but the same bows both were way off 55# I sent them back and bought 12 Fred Bear compound bows dirt cheap on Ebay,....and their all excellent except the one from New Jersey that sent me a kids bow but I turned that around on him I added a longer loop and its 48 pounds and that's enough to get the job done. So I got my recurve about 4 days ago I shot 2 arrows through it,.... because while sharpening broadheads one got me on my finger. So I ordered a 50# and got a 45# My recurve is as pretty as my 83# Bob Morrison Bow. My China Bow look's Like a clone of your Swift except prettier. I bought a China Recurve because replacement limbs on a Bob Morrison bow were $450 for used ones and Like $850 for new ones many years ago. The 2 chinese Compounds I just bought are state of the art I could barely pull them back,. I thought they were the same bow,...but their slightly different one was the Mirage $159.00 0ne was Fossil $129.00,....one has a bigger cam,.... but I think their both great bows no regrets. But the cheaper one had more stuff.
Like most everything that’s out of China it’s also made with high tech and slave labor, clones of the best bows made in the US by dedicated bowyers. We’ve seen a few that the limb inserts popped out, before even stringing them up! And two with the inserts terribly out of line. They don’t get hit by tariffs and so this really hurts our bowyers and archery companies. BUY US MADE :)
Wouldn’t correct spines shafts wrap around the riser so you don’t have to hold 8inches to the left your useing 400’s Maybe 500’s would have been better suited
No. Spine doesn't quite work that way. You could possibly move it over a bit using weaker spines, but then your spine would be too weak for the draw weight and you'd have too much paradox. We went ahead and filed that bow past center, making it a center shot bow, and it instantly corrected the problem.
You may find the black community is quiet as the swift if you put padding and strike plate on the shelf inside window string silencers and a properly tuned arrow. What you have there is not really a fair comparison
good review, but based on the info you provided, i can't see how you can say that i "...would not waste [my] money buying one of these ..." when this $75 bow needs approx. $225-250 worth of work?! yikes! see @ 15:08-ff
Yeah good point. I should have clarified that better. Those are just the things I'd change on it as a bowyer. Out of the box it's a fantastic starter bow for the money
It's not a great plains with your awesome grip.I had a Black Hawk swift. The phenolic separated in the riser. 1000 dollar bow. Sent it for repair. Came apart again..still love Great plains.
This is now a $200 CAD bow I just searched for it on Amazon and put it in my shopping cart. The problem is after you guys made the video they jacked up the price. And Joe Biden/ Kamala Harris are making it worse with inflation
I once bought a Samick Sage out of curiosity. It was blocky, ugly, the riser was poorly built and split out on me around the quiver bracket, and the bottom limb was twisted which I tried to fix but it would not stay. I screwed around getting replacement bows but the next 2 had their own problems. I could not get one without a twisted limb. I finally got one I could shoot and it was in decent shape so I set it up and gave it to my niece and her husband. I told everyone who would listen not to buy them. I bought a 30 pound Black Hunter to use as a teaching bow for friends and it is what I call "rough" but it is a better bow than that junky Sage. I'll stay with my customs and high-end bows thanks.
I'd say just avoid anything amazon out of principle, get yourself something nice, it's a weapon of precision and details matter also so do keeping jobs in the US
From my perspective, I can't think of one good thing about buying a bow like this. Not trying to berate people for buying these chinese wonders, just felt like weighing in. One of the major things trade with China has accomplished is it has hollowed out the American economy: the trade imbalance has been staggering and devastating. It's horrible for the environment and energy consumption as raw materials go back and forth a ridiculous amount of times. As to your question Shane: how can they do it for 75 bucks...I would bet the biggest sucker in world history, ths U.S. taxpayer, is probably subsidizing the whole operation...again, to the ultimate desolation of the American economy. Politicians in the past have made agriegious trade deals/treaties with China, mostly to garner backdoor funding to their campaigns and various other nefarious personal benefits to said politicians. Many perfectly good American businesses have gone under because of the new global system and it's unsustainable models. I could go on all day and night. If people really wanted to know, which most don't, they could know...they want a "deal"...fine, but there is always a cost. A bow like Shane builds, or hundreds of other great custom bow making businesses offer are superior in every way, but the most important things are always intangible because many people (we) prefer it that way.
I owed 2 BH recurve and long. Should mention its ok 4the money. But, the riser is a low Weight cheap wood, no ability to absorb vibrations.the limbs are the same staff cheap made and too heavy mass to power relation
Good review. Bottom line to me, even though it is only 75 bucks, is that your 75 bucks is funding the enemy of our country, china. In short always from an American bowyer. You can buy a used American bowyer vintage recurve for about the same amount if you look around.
I thought that this was a great idea for a video. I have a Black Hunter that I bought to try archery out. The bow works really well but I wonder if I am missing much by not having a 'high end' bow. This helped me to answer that question. It also gave me reassurance that I didn't waste my money or any of my time whilst practicing. I can use the cheaper bow while saving for something more exotic. I appreciate that different people have different perspective though.
Lots of videos that say that the Black Hunter is junk, hence the $75 price point. You shouldn't be promoting junk like that, someone might spend their hard earned money and end up with a junk bow. You must have got that for free! Lol
The black hunter has it's place. A lot of people can't afford a high end bow when they are starting out in traditional archery. They are plenty good enough to see if you enjoy the sport and then you can upgrade. It's just common sense. Think about it
This is why never shop on amazon for a bow. If i order from the campany i use and placed an order for a black hunter, thats excacly what i would get. And why? Because these a rip off mass produced, that isnt a black hunter, it just looks like one. And yes indeed there would be differences, wood probably, certainly the string that comes with it, and youre not getting a real black hunter obviously. Samick has same issue's, my friend has a "Samick sage" yet his doesnt even have the Samick sage logo on his, mine does. Why people buy bows off amazon is beyond me, the one at the store i use is 125 i believe, why? Because its a real Black Hunter, not a rip off. And those saying "yer but materials the same" maybe, but its how the wood is treated before manufacture. Big difference, im only learning archery and i know this, thus i only use a reputable company that sells original bows, not knock offs.
could it be possible to short break down how to make it center shot? just where to take messurements and how to file it down the right way? would be great, got that bow myself and im really fine with it, but i also got the feeling it fires a bit to the side.
Why not just buy a MandarinDuck blackhunter, they are allready center shot. It is possible they have more layers laminated together and haves a stronger raiser. If you file it down it may brake, then you have to buy one more for 75.

Beautiful bows you make✌
Do some vintage bow reviews, thanks
Good idea! Do you have one in mind?
Best review by far of this bow! Tx guys for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bought the long bow and recurve version of this since they are so inexpensive and like them. Any way... they have a Black Hunter TRIANGLE 58" bow at 30-40LB's... that is interesting... any way thanks for the review. Note... I shoot crossbows and had a lot of extra crossbow limb tip covers and they fit perfect on the recurve so I added them to protect the limb tips... and it strings better for me with them on... later...
Very good info! Thanks!
We're do you get it ?
You can buy the black hunters or rebranded black hunters pretty much anywhere online. Amazon has em and Ebay also or lots of sporting goods stores carry em
How much do you sell that Swift for? I'm actually shopping for a new bow. I'd buy a Black Hunter reworked by you, if you ever decide to go that way.
If ya go to my website I've got all the prices there. I've got some great Swift T/Ds in stock right now. They are a lower price than a custom Swift T/D. As far as the black hunters go I do rework new ones for customers
I was going to buy the black hunter. But now I want the Swift.
Only 1400 in difference...
What causes that is the side plate on the riser not being cut deep enough
@@greatplainsbow Wouldn't archer's paradox correct that because the string is down center? Also when I measured mine it was 0.1" cut past center.
@@Mulching_man sure thing. Give me a bit here and I will
Man you just helped me figure out why I have to move over to the right to hit my target. It’s not center shot. I just watched your video on making the black hunter a center shot.
Great! Happy shooting!

Its probably in your best interest to recommend a $75 starter bow.... it gets more future customers into the market for a high end bow down the road.
Awesome review
Same thing I was thinking than if you wanted sumthng better I would b leaning towards the person who recommended me a good starter bow
@@Celticgolfer69 that's awesome! I'm not a fan of the samick sage, but the bh is a nice little bow

Asdw archery huh...thanx im gonna order 2 for me an my son
I have sinoart branded reflex deflex version. the only real complaint is that draw weight is about 45 lbs instead of 40. But at my length it comes in at about 40 lbs so it worked out for me.
We’ve seen them 6lbs off at most. Glad it worked out for you.
Cost? They pay workers .08 a day!
Hi Chane i see that the Black hunter is not center is this so?
He said that in the video.
Very informative review , thank you and .... I like the Swift
The tiller is for splitfinger, use 500sp with heavy insert and the arrows will go straight where u aim 😁
hey, i was originally going for the black hunter but after watching your video i'm considering the swift.. could you perhaps provide me with a link to a website to buy it or its full name?
Yep. Here's a one piece that's in stock www.greatplainsbow.com/product-page/sr-swift-recurve-58-42-rh-17323

@@greatplainsbow I think that would be pretty cool. You should post it on the archery subreddit as well.

Question, are you giving away a Mathews compound bow for a Christmas giveaway?
You must have heard wrong. It’s a Ten Point crossbow we’re giving away 😂
@@greatplainsbow did you send me a photo of a compound bow or is that some scammer.
That definitely wasn’t us.
There's hundreds of factories making that style of bow, and many other types of recurves,
Then there's hundreds of other factories making many other styles of compound bows.
So I ordered a 50# and got a 45#
My recurve is as pretty as my 83# Bob Morrison Bow.
Why are all your bows out of stock?
Like most everything that’s out of China it’s also made with high tech and slave labor, clones of the best bows made in the US by dedicated bowyers. We’ve seen a few that the limb inserts popped out, before even stringing them up! And two with the inserts terribly out of line. They don’t get hit by tariffs and so this really hurts our bowyers and archery companies. BUY US MADE :)
Actually, original name is Junxing F171.
Ok
When I first handled one of those I thought they had ripped off a Great Plains design, I see that it’s more likely a shorter Palmer ripoff.
Probably a little of both honestly. I'm sure they looked around a bit before they designed it
Wouldn’t correct spines shafts wrap around the riser so you don’t have to hold 8inches to the left your useing 400’s
Maybe 500’s would have been better suited
No. Spine doesn't quite work that way. You could possibly move it over a bit using weaker spines, but then your spine would be too weak for the draw weight and you'd have too much paradox. We went ahead and filed that bow past center, making it a center shot bow, and it instantly corrected the problem.
have #40 r/d blk hunter... like it!!!
You may find the black community is quiet as the swift if you put padding and strike plate on the shelf inside window string silencers and a properly tuned arrow. What you have there is not really a fair comparison
Good thoughts
good review, but based on the info you provided, i can't see how you can say that i "...would not waste [my] money buying one of these ..." when this $75 bow needs approx. $225-250 worth of work?! yikes! see @ 15:08-ff
Yeah good point. I should have clarified that better. Those are just the things I'd change on it as a bowyer. Out of the box it's a fantastic starter bow for the money
25 bucks a limb and 25 bucks for the riser sound strange to say
It's not a great plains with your awesome grip.I had a Black Hawk swift. The phenolic separated in the riser. 1000 dollar bow. Sent it for repair. Came apart again..still love Great plains.

This is now a $200 CAD bow I just searched for it on Amazon and put it in my shopping cart. The problem is after you guys made the video they jacked up the price. And Joe Biden/ Kamala Harris are making it worse with inflation
@@sveltergamer5934 yep, things are getting absolutely ridiculous anymore
“Much quieter”

You're right. We should have put silencers on the black hunter. Sorry bout that
I once bought a Samick Sage out of curiosity.
I'd say just avoid anything amazon out of principle, get yourself something nice, it's a weapon of precision and details matter also so do keeping jobs in the US
Peccato non capisco un cazzo grazie lo stesso
Hey no worries. Outside of my field of expertise I'm pretty much illiterate
I'd rather spend more money and get a Bear or Damon Howatt.
You can buy a used American bowyer vintage recurve for about the same amount if you look around.
after many tests, the black "phenomen" is not so great
great looking but for precision and confort, not so performing...
Let me guess this character actually sells 200 an up dollar bows rite?? 😂😊❤😅 all hate'r made
@@AllenCostello-kl8qs what does hate'r made mean?
I'm not sure why a high end bow company in the USA would take the time to compare their bows to a foreign made $75 bow off Amazon. There's your sign.
Think about it a bit
Way too many cuts. Makes me uncomfortable watching it
could it be possible to short break down how to make it center shot? just where to take messurements and how to file it down the right way? would be great, got that bow myself and im really fine with it, but i also got the feeling it fires a bit to the side.
Sure. We'll make a video about that
Why not just buy a MandarinDuck blackhunter, they are allready center shot. It is possible they have more layers laminated together and haves a stronger raiser. If you file it down it may brake, then you have to buy one more for 75.
