    As the owner of the items in this collection and videoed by Chris B. at a recent NJACC show I welcome constructive criticism, and additional info. I am not an expert nor do I clam to be. The items are displayed for all to enjoy. I have well over 3000 items in my 40 year collection from the Civil War thru WW2 including Ordnance { Hand Grenades } and long arms . Chris has had an opportunity to view and record a few . I do these presentation as a public service, and to share the collection. Enjoy.

    The pack doesn't need the cartridge belt to be worn. A lot of people think the two lower straps on either shoulder straps attach to the cartridge belt and is hung over the shoulders, then the rear vertical strap is to keep the pack from swaying...this mistake is fomented and repeated by movies like "The Lost Battalion" where the actors were dressed up this way, inevitably resulting in the cartridge belt being pulled up to their arm pits and the pack bouncing around their butts.
    The pack is a stand alone item that has straps to help support the cartridge belt or pistol belt. There are two 3/4" D-rings at the bottom of the main haver sack that the straight lower shoulder strap hooks to, the pack tail has the same two D-rings on web tabs (seen in the video) that these straps hook to when the pack tail with bed roll is attached, this will allow the pack to be carried correctly via the shoulder straps. The two straps sewn to the shoulder straps and the single strap on the rear of the pack are cartridge belt supporting straps, these are there only to assist in keeping the load of 100rds and a 1 quart canteen from pulling the belt down.

    Interesting thing about the Montana peak hat. In the period of western settlement, the newly formed Canadian paramilitary force the North West Mounted Police began to patrol what is now Saskatchewan and Alberta. The officers wore a white pith helmet and the enlisted men black pill boxes, but this was uncomfortable. So, troopers began to purchase civilian hats, particularly the Stetson and shaped them in the way that is fashionable. This was popularized by Sam Steel as comedant in the Yukon durring the Klondike gold rush, and throughout the British Empire when it became the standard Canadian headdress in the Boer War. This style was then adopted by other countries like Australia who wore a wool hat (instead of beaver felt) and the US forces.

    I've been told that the auxiliary pack for non com officers was for carrying, among other things, a razor blade stropper which was shared by a group of men to extend the lives of their new double edge razor blades. Shaving was important as it enhanced the fit of gas masks but men were also required to save steel - so razor blades were considered far less 'disposable' than they are today of course.

    By 1918, Both the US and British armies were shifting to straight leg trousers from breeches. Another good video. Notice how low both the Marching Shoe and the Pershing Boot were compared to later boots. Thus the need for puttees. As the US Army had no gas masks, it issued both British Small Box Respirator(S.B.R.) and French M2.

More plagiarism. you certainly can't go by American war records and data, because America only ever see Frontline action for 7 months, from April 1918 to November 1918, ....So didn't have time to write anything down , no major campaigns offensive or action, so it's back to the British archives, so you can take information audit and change it to America's perspective ..or in over words , steal our thunder, but your welcome to it, but remember ,we the British paid a heavy price for it !

    • @michaellefort6128
      @michaellefort6128 5 років тому

      All things considered, the German Mauser is the best rifle used in WW1. Its design and accuracy were second to none. For the Entande it was the Enfield, even the Americans were issued Enfields when they first arrived in Europe. The 1903 Springfield is an excellent weapon and my first choice for bolt action rifle shooting. it was used for Sniping from WW1 up into Vietnam before the US had its Armoroers make specialized weapons for sniping. In WW1 there just weren't enough 1903's to go around and production was ramped up to supply all the Americans with an American rifle before the end of the war.

    • @gandolfthewhite
      @gandolfthewhite 4 роки тому +1

      @AliasSLH that was in WW2 in the Russian Army that some men carried a rifle and ammo and the others carried ammo. When Hitler invaded there wasn't enough equipment. The idea was that if a man with a rifle was hit the man carrying ammo would pick up the rifle and continue the assault. The soldiers were told that if anyone turned and ran their families would be put to death. A trench gun, trench broom, is a shotgun. Not good over long distances.
