Shout out to Painted for the awesome fights. I learned a ton, and had a lot of fun too. This video is longer than some of the previous ones; I wanted to let the fights develop so you could get an idea of how he was learning how to react to me, and how i (poorly) reacted to him.
Well put amish, keep up the good work. Painted is fascinating to watch honestly. He takes more risks than other top tier duelist yet he'll force you into doing mistakes you wouldn't make otherwise with his relentless mixups.
Yeah he commits to his reads and lets the cards fall where they may. Problem for me was, his reads were right too often. Trying to guess what he was going to do next was a lot of the fun for me.
Writing this after having read The Dark Soul’s comment (and accompanying replies). The main difference I find between the pvp skill of invaders and duelists is how they use pressure, treat error and treat builds/ weapons. Invaders can heal while duelists can’t, something that is heavily utilized by good duelists to make you feel overwhelmed looking at your 300 hp vs their 1200. An invader uses the fact that you can heal against you, forcing you to panic in the face of constant estus punishes, which leads to a win most of the time. While in both circumstances, hp difference between players dictated how they reacted to one another, a duelist wins in the regard that you get no space to escape and rethink your approach, while invaders win by making you feel like you have no choice but to estus away your problems. In both cases, 1 wiff or poor choice often leads to a damn near unwinnable situation, but invaders don’t quite stack up in adaptability when fighting, taking on a more ‘trail-and-error’ based style of adjustment, as opposed to a duelists ‘on-the-fly’ style. This is exaggerated by the limited breathing room a duel arena gives you, as a good read can flip a fight on its head quickly. This is not to say that invaders can’t adapt quickly or that duelists are 200 IQ know-what-you-do-before-you-do-it type people, merely to point out how the differing dynamics lead to differing strategies. An invasion is war, and in war you can lose the battle and still win overall, whilst a duel is a one-off ordeal. One L and that’s it (which is what frustrates me most about duels; lack of space and time to try new approaches). Another way to describe this difference is in usage of a toolset. This is fortunately fairly simple to understand and doesn’t take up much space to type. An invader is good at using their arsenal, a duelist is good at using their chosen weapon. Notice how there are very many weapon specific dueling builds on YT, while invader builds are more general, ie. a crow quills build vs a dex build (that has notably more than 10 str). I found iamamish’s choice of words “[player name] fought me with a number of different builds” as opposed to “they fought me with many weapons” to be noteworthy, +the armor change along with the weapon, given that these are duels (I could be overthinking it idk). Imo a varied inventory lets you cover all grounds you walk upon, while a specialized weapon build puts you in a spot where you have to force your weapon to work in the given scenario (which is not as challenging in duels considering people don’t often change weapons or be greater in numbers than you). I find duels to be based more on prediction and reaction, while invasions incorporate more planning, since you can develop a strategy by seeing the party first from a controllable distance, and come up with backup plans as you aren’t thrust straight into a direct confrontation. This is again, imo, in case that wasn’t said enough.
The build variety was already insane, and there were so many mix-ups. It usually took me at least 2 fights against each build to figure out what you were doing, but even then you kept fooling me and throwing new things at me. Plus, your reads were SO good. I had a ton of fun and would love to have some more fights some time. Thanks!
@@ghorstbusters6238 actually I think I'm wrong about that - I think he kept it so he could attack at low stamina without worrying about trading and getting guard-broken.
Painted is probably the duelist I want to fight most in this game. Probably has the most unique duelist playstyle I’ve seen. I love aggressive duelists.
It’s really cool how hybrid build like rapier+Greatsword, Handaxe+curved greatsword, Straightsword+yhorm’s machete, estoc+katana, etc.. have gotten super popular
Yeah and funny enough I was watching a really old Gamefaqs ladder tourney video and Soulless was using offhand estoc with mainhand CGS. So these builds were popular early, fell out of favor for some reason, and are now making a comeback. No idea why they fell out of favor in the first place.
I'm late to the party, I just wanted to comment on his valorheart playstyle. It should be noted that most of the time he is left with extremely low stamina and he does a very good job at hiding it. You have to be a valorheart user to understand it, but with this weapon you have to keep an eye on your stamina all the time. What painted does is remarkable to a VH user because he keeps his calm and keeps staying in your face even though 1 R1 from your claymore w/ k***ht slayer ring leaves him with 20% of his stamina. After most of your clashes he didn't even have the stamina to roll for half a second but he bluffed so well that only someone who knows this weapon would call it. That, I think, is truly genius from his part.
Posse Slayer yeah he was amazing. I played poorly but he played very well. I noticed he sometimes swapped over to the Morion and I assumed that was when he had low stamina and didn’t want to risk a trade/guard break.
Hey Amish, I'm new to DS3 PvP and I was getting curb stomped. I've been binge watching all your vids and I've improved immensely. I just wanted to thank you for having great videos and great commentary. You use your normal voice and don't add a bunch of flashy bs to the videos. Keep up the great work and maybe one day I'll invade you!
Hell yes! That is great to hear, thank you for sharing that. It's easy to get discouraged when invading these days - there aren't many groups of bambis roaming the halls of Lothric anymore, so it's harder than ever. Congrats for sticking with it.
These videos really help inspire a newfound love for this game. You have helped me to realize just how much I still have to learn and I am more excited than ever to have my ass kicked over and over and over again. Hopefully, should the stars align, I can make it to a community event and make my dreams a reality. Thank you for your time, effort, and dedication to this community. I also find the "Invader Vs Duelist" argument rather pointless honestly. As long as people are playing and enjoying this game I think that's all that really matters. Invasions differ in style and tactics from duels but one cannot deny that they both draw from the same set of utilities: R1. R2, Spacing, etc... If you learn how to better use these tools in one environment (i.e duels), then you can better apply them in another (i.e invasions) and your net skill has improved overall.
well said, and I agree re: invader & duelist. They're different facets of PvP - they share the same core skillset, but obviously have differences at the edges.
Painted is really a good sport and an aggressive duelist where even when you loose you wouldn't feel bad. He's even better than jeenine imo because J9 never takes risk like painted does where as J9 plays really passive from what I've seen from the tourneys and really boring to watch.

Paintedphantoms is arguably the best player in ds3 purely because of his effectiveness with every single one of his many setups. I encountered Painted few weeks ago while hosting a fight club, he destroyed every single one of us haha ! I mean we are far to be as good as these top tier players, and we're more invaders than duelists. I prefer invasions over duels cause I like funky stuff, but that's what was cool about fighting Painted and watching him fight... he goes for the funky stuff ! He is super aggressive, mixes shit up and uses weapons or combos you rarely see ! That guy is really impressive and even if you're not 100% into duels he will make you wanna get better at it. You don't see it in this video but he is an absolute monster with Aquamarine dagger and Farron GS lol I find it useless agruing about the what's harder between invasions/duels. I personnaly found this one guy as impressive as a really skilled invader who mastered BS techniques and swaps VS 3 people. And these are the things I like watching the most lol so... Painted, hands down the best duelist I've met. I would love to see a good video from his own screen :)
Excelent video. I know you are much better player than you seem to be in these videos. I think if u didn't know you are playing against a famous duelist, you would win most of those duels. I see that he is doing well, but you seemed to be a little off in this video :)
There may be some truth in that - good players can get inside your head and cause you to doubt what you are doing. When I rewatch these fights, I see what I did wrong, so I can apply that to my next set of fights.

hmm I haven't seen the notifications for your streams, and I assumed that was because they were on Twitch. Weird.
4 prong plow gang
I don’t like meta players but this guy is really good
I don’t have a problem with players who use good tools but I definitely agree that Painted is a beast
iamamish honestly i hate players who duel tryhard, this guy is good tho i like him because he’s hella aggressive,i had dew fights with him he won most of them i did get a good clip on him tho,it’s the second clip in my last montage,i didn’t clip it because who he’s i did it because it was good,i do respect him even tho i remember pointing him down lol
Suzuya Sama you’re bad
Jnigo寒意 says the dude who fakes swaps lol
Suzuya Sama never faked a swap. You’re trash
Painted ❤
Soulless ❤
Where dem top tier PC players at?
Probably on PC
I'm hoping to do something on PC at some point, but my PC is having some problems. So, most of my pre-arranged footage is going to have to come from PS4 right now.
@@iamamish hey that would be pretty sick. I'd be interested to hear you talk at length about the differences between pc and console.
hi bro, very good video
glad you liked it
Hi I’m one year late just to say paint is the man
I learned so much from fighting him, he's great I agree - thanks Wolf
Painted is the best tourney player but he’s too humble to admit .
I’m not good enough to tell the differences between the top players but I can believe it. His mix ups, reads, spacing, etc are all amazing.
iamamish there was a tournament of champions he won a year or so back and I think he actually has the most tourney wins. But ya much respect to everyone but he’s honestly he’s the only meta guy I can stand to watch he also doesn’t upload which is refreshing, just a sweaty kid with a dream. He’s really cool in party’s and doesn’t care for drama .swell guy
iamamish id like some fights with you honestly you’re getting really good , thanks for uploading about painted he doesn’t get enough deserved attention.
@@tajneeley I'd love that sometime. I'm familiar with your play and I'm sure you'd beat me, but it'd still be a ton of fun to match up against you.
Ggs Amish 👌🏻
I encountered Painted few weeks ago while hosting a fight club, he destroyed every single one of us haha ! I mean we are far to be as good as these top tier players, and we're more invaders than duelists. I prefer invasions over duels cause I like funky stuff, but that's what was cool about fighting Painted and watching him fight... he goes for the funky stuff ! He is super aggressive, mixes shit up and uses weapons or combos you rarely see ! That guy is really impressive and even if you're not 100% into duels he will make you wanna get better at it. You don't see it in this video but he is an absolute monster with Aquamarine dagger and Farron GS lol
I find it useless agruing about the what's harder between invasions/duels. I personnaly found this one guy as impressive as a really skilled invader who mastered BS techniques and swaps VS 3 people. And these are the things I like watching the most lol so... Painted, hands down the best duelist I've met.
I would love to see a good video from his own screen :)
Sherkan Mustard yes if Painted has a channel I’m sure it would be very popular. I too would like to see such a thing.
Nice Sherkan
Painted without question is the best valorheart player in the game ^-^
Yeah he destroyed me with it. I've been obsessing about how I'd fight him if I fought against it again.
@@iamamish wish you luck also I would be happy facing you sometime ^-^
Oof. Getting backstabbed by painted...
Yeah like 4 seconds into our first fight too...amish.rekt()
lol mat smh
he's cute on ds2 uwu
Excelent video. I know you are much better player than you seem to be in these videos. I think if u didn't know you are playing against a famous duelist, you would win most of those duels. I see that he is doing well, but you seemed to be a little off in this video :)
There may be some truth in that - good players can get inside your head and cause you to doubt what you are doing. When I rewatch these fights, I see what I did wrong, so I can apply that to my next set of fights.
