Ive learned a lot from this video. I appreciate you breaking down the facts and demonstrating this. Definitely save us viewer time and money from what you shared! Thanks
It really can't be figured out without the solar meter, Most mercury vapor bulbs are inconsistent. The solar meter was one of my best investments for dialing in uvb for my argentine black and white tegu. Personally, I like the vapor bulbs i've been using them for 3 years with this Lizard.
You are absolutely correct. And when we did this video we found that some of the more expensive of the vapor bulbs, where some of the weakest. So a meter if someone can afford it is a great idea
Hey guys, are yall open this time of year? My daughter wants to come see yall for her birthday and i was just going to check before i drove down from Mount airy nc.
@@LoveGuruGreg Absolutely we use it. And that is the only type we sale in our store as well. So, all our customers use mercury vapor as well. Now to even enhance this answer when we started actively selling mercury vapor to our customers they would come in and still to this day will tell a new customer how much better the bulbs are, and how much happier and more active and in the case of bearded dragons, how much brighter and deeper their dragons colors are. The key reasons for most trashy box store talking about the dangers is because they cannot make money off good, efficient, and long-lasting products. So, most stores want to sale what is going to help their bottom line, hence why we have so many pet store customers that come in pissed off all the time because the cheap cheesy bulbs they are buying from some crap store burns out every few weeks and they have to constantly replace them which of course gets expensive. The t5 t8 as shown do NOT produce what they are said to produce. But when your making 60 to 80 dollars per bulb who cares. And then the customer still has to buy the heat bulb as well.
Greatly apprecaited! I use to breed cyclura, tegus and uros many years ago, started in the early 1990s here in Michigan. Though getting back into a few pets onlyand I know when they first came out there was a concern of the outer glass breaking, thus UVB was toxic dangerous in the amoutns released. Oh, I get the mark up and profit margins big time. Thanks again so much! Peace & Love! @@ReptileRangers
Have you tested any of the bulbs through a screen? I have a 23 year old iguana and my bulb is old so Im trying make sure she gets what she needs. I usually go with mercury vapor bulbs but i dont want expose her to too much UV. I can't get the light 24" above the enclosure.
Yes, all our clients that use 36x18 open front or 4x2x2 with screen lids use these bulbs. So, for your situation you may play with the distances a little since you're going with a new type of bulb. But most of the ones our clients bulbs are set directly on top of screen lids or enclosures. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the questions. So, the short answer to that is no. They actually do better from MVB than any other man-made source right now. However, you must take into account the radiant that does come out of the bulb and make sure to keep bulbs at an acceptable distance from bulb as it can be too much if it's to close. For example, since all our customers have started using uvb bulbs for the last few years. The number of issues has drastically decreased. We also have seen in our studies as well our customer feedback that the animals are brighter in color, more active, and have more regular feedings and bowel movements. Now no bulb is perfect but mvb is a great singular option. We are getting ready to put up another video specifically about mercury vapor. Check that out when it hits. Thanks for watching and commenting
I'm going to get a Chahoua Gecko soon, and would like to give it UVB in a bioactive enclosure. I see that the MVBs are far superior to the T5 bulbs, but any kind of heat would cook the gecko... What kind of UVB would you recommend?
So mercury vapor is our first go to for a uvb source with heat. However if you watch the most recent video we just put up, you can see a new L E D source that is pretty good as well for something that doesn't need a ton of heat. Thanks for watching and commenting
I tried the mercury vapor bulb for my beardie and it made me feel physically sick for it to be on. Is that normal? I tried it off and on for several days and it made me sick each time. Maybe it was too strong?
The only way to know if the bulb is truly affecting you would be to talk to your doctor and see if there is something within UVB that affects you. But unless you're in the tank or within 24 inches of the bulb you should not feel signs from it. You're the first person to say they think they are feeling something from the bulb. So, you have some kind of immunocompromise, but again I have never heard of anyone having issues from the bulbs like that. They are strong but I have no evidence to suggest they are that strong. Thanks for watching and commenting
Once the uv has been turned on its only takes a few minutes to gain its best readings as we showed. Besides off that logic why would you waste money on something that needs hours to build up to working. Hence the point of Mercury Vapor being a far better bulb. And we have tested these same bulbs in our actual zoo, and they are still as useless after being in use in exhibits. We have had a couple customers buy this solar meter to see how the store-bought bulbs worked and they got similar reading. Thanks for watching and commenting.
No as they start producing uvb from the moment turned on. However I am happy to do another video showing them on for hours doing the same pathic results.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes it does fine for them also just be careful of fake plastic items getting to hot to the touch. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That camera audio compressor is wild
It was a lapel mic that was going in and out, but we did not know that until editing. At that point oh well. Thanks for watching and commenting

Do you use mercury vapor yourself? I keep hearing the dangers, vs T5 UVB bulbs? however....

Wouldn't MVBs give bearded dragons to much uvb and if not any recomidations

I think its much better if you turn on the light bulb couple hours before you test.
Uv level will change during that time
Once the uv has been turned on its only takes a few minutes to gain its best readings as we showed. Don't the bulbs need to be on for at least a few minutes before you can get an accurate reading?
