I have a 5200 and a 4200. I love them both. Thanks for the video. When you took apart the 5200 muffler I noticed that your just had the large hole baffle. Hi Buckin Clean that carbon out of the port so it can breath right. Next best thing to doing a porting job. I bought a new Poulan Pro 4000 back in the 80,s when they first came out . First thing I did after break in was I removed the screen in the muffler that help . It has cut lot of timber and fire wood , has been a good saw . Now it needs crank seals to run again . I have been watching and learning from the Iron Horse Channel . Been thinking about doing a rebuild and some porting and muffler mods and make it really run strong . Have a great day and be safe .

That is it! Just think if they didn’t restrict and vented the saws properly, up to and including factory porting to get the highest potential out of these engines. Most of these are low compression and need a better squish. Beyond all that, good oil and gas and the rest is pure enjoyment.

I just got a free poulan 4200. Finaly found a recoil through it. Upon first inspection, i could pick the saw up by the rope, cleaned the carb and i noticed the piston looked immaculate. Full wrap bar, some big dogs ect. I stuck in a stick of red fir, i discovered the same thing. Im going to build a pipe for it, i just cant get enough air out of it... so another pipe adventure begins

Then I drilled 6- 1/8 holes where it goes straight thru. And it is one of my best and favorite saws. Guys are often trying to buy it. It's my limb, small wood saw. For the price point on a saw with a husqvarna engine, you can't go wrong. If it breaks I'll bite the bullet and buy a new husqvarna with a 20"+ bar. I have been experimenting with the newer small Poulans from about 1999-2000 and they still had that same kind of baffle in the can. The holes destroy the pulses. That baffle design makes the saw so lazy. I ported a second little Poulan 2150 34cc and I tried it with the stock exhaust and all it would do was big, those crazy baffles make them run like the choke is on. All the saw would do was load up the exhaust with fuel. I made an Iron Horse pipe for it and it woke it up like mad. Now the little saw cuts through an almost 16" piece of spruce like nuthin' I love all of the experimentation everyone is doing with exhausts for saws. It's so much of what makes them rock.
I have a poulan pro 5020av and its a great saw but will NOT stay tuned to save its life. Runs great for a short period of time then goes fat. Its been that way since I bought it from a guy who claimed it was used once to cut up a fallen tree, I put an aftermarket carb on it and it didnt help, and I have no one in my area who actually tunes saws. I want to be able to run the thing as it has a Husqvarna engine on it and i know its a good saw. Drives me insane. I am ordering a new OEM carb for it soon and hopefully that fixes it.
Today I climbed a 80 ft pine tree and I got up towards the top and she was swaying back and forth. And then you popped into my head saying I'm not in a hurry I am at peace.
I have a poulan that fires up on choke and then dies have not been able to get it to stay idleing ?
Buckin, how many powersaws would you say you own?
LOL! COOL!.... thanks 4 video. be kind.
Great tuning vid 👍🏽. How come u always pull the pull cord a lil bit out on shutoff?
That's to save the starter when the motor bounces backward a bit on shutoff.
@@bobbentley9481 thank you my friend 👍🏽
I have a poulan pro 5020av and its a great saw but will NOT stay tuned to save its life. Runs great for a short period of time then goes fat. Its been that way since I bought it from a guy who claimed it was used once to cut up a fallen tree, I put an aftermarket carb on it and it didnt help, and I have no one in my area who actually tunes saws. I want to be able to run the thing as it has a Husqvarna engine on it and i know its a good saw. Drives me insane. I am ordering a new OEM carb for it soon and hopefully that fixes it.
Did that help? TIA, Bill
