Yeah, there were times live where he couldn't get through the song. Also, he had requested everyone to leave the studio so he could just speak to his mom. He decided to keep parts that he felt was universal that people could relate to. The ones that ended on the cutting floor were specific stories that only he and his mom would really know.

This song touched Shay WAY more then she expected.. almost everytime a deep/heavy line was mentioned in the song... She seemed to either look up/down/to the side.. or just closed her eyes for a moment..
Shay definitely relates to this song whether it be directly or indirectly... but doesn't want to necessarily want to get into the depths of the conversation so she seems to brush it off as tho anyone who has a song about their mom can do the same...
Even as Annamay and Kay talk after the song... Shay's expressions and mannerisms are distant...!!!

at the time of this music video, his mother death was still fresh in his mind hints the raw pure emotion through the song, also at the end when he's talking about his mother not being there when he has kids he was the only one in the studio as he had asked everyone to leave and that bit is him saying goodbye to his mother.

nf parents where divorced and nf and his two sisters went to live with there mom and eventually nf mom had a new boyfriend and he physically abused nf and one of his sisters nf in his song MANSION he makes brief mention of it.
Nf is a beast mine and his childhood is so similar and I’m sure a lot of other people feel the same way but I feel like he was there with me and went through everything I went through my mom died due to lasting effects of meth when I was 12 my step dad was a meth cook so in all of it I was abused to so I really feel like nf was there and saw it
the last verse he kicked everyone out of the studio and he was just talking to his mom. There have been many times when he couldn't even finish the song at shows before breaking down. Even more sad now that he's expecting his first child
