  • How to replace the front wheel bearings and brakes in a 2004 Ford Explorer ~ Slim Shadetree Mechanics. At first I thought this was a front differential problem as the sound travelled to the center of the vehicle and was making a lot of grinding noises, but it turned out to be the wheel bearing.

Thank you for the video but it appears that you did not replace the bearing, instead the whole hub, so your video is titled inappropriately and wasting people's time if they want to replace just the bearing (on a RWD vehicle) instead of the whole hub. Thanks.

Ford designed these front bearings to be replaced as an entire assembly with the hub. It's unusual, but you can purchase the bearings separately, but it takes exponentially more time as you have to remove and install the bearings with a hydraulic press, pull the races out with the assistance of an acetylene torch and there's more room for error. If you're getting it done at a shop and you request it, they'll probably charge you more for the time than swapping the assembly and if you're a weekend warrior it could take an entire day or more. As far as wasting people's time for watching this, it's not like I'm getting paid...as usual, no good deed goes unpunished, but not for nothing, I'll change the title.
