    Let me know in the comments what you like most about hut life while out backpacking.

    Great video - well presented! Lots of great advice there. Only one extra tip regarding the fire is don't clean out the woodburner if the ashes are still warm. We once left early and there was another party behind us. As they left we noticed smoke in the chimney. They'd reset the fire only for the hot ashes to ignite the firewood...
    Careless ash disposal has caused the demise of far too many wonderful huts.

      Glad you liked it. Yes, very good point. I’ve also seen some people put ashes in a plastic container a d melt it. :(

    Agree - those are great tips! I might have missed it, but do not take up more space than you need during the stay. Keep it tidy at all times.

      That’s a really good point. It’s simply a matter of being considerate of others, while still enjoying your stay. :)

    Great tips! There is nothing louder than the floors in a hut, trying to stay quiet is so difficult. I love staying in huts, fantastic way to meet others and get out of bad weather or get some shade on a hot day

      Yes, great points. I must admit, a hut is a very welcome haven after being out in the rain for hours. :)

    If you notice anything broken or rodents, pop a comment in the hut book. We (DOC rangers) check them for such comments. Also if arriving really late / leaving early consider doing your packing out on the porch if there's one. Those MSC yellow pack liners where designed with very high acoustic values I think... :-)

    Nice Barry! A must watch for all those who are unsure of hut etiquette!
    As an ex smoker a tip for smokers that I use to do is take an eclipse mint tin to put my cigarette butts in to carry out. Cigarette butts all over the ground outside a hut is not a good look.
    Ps. This snorer tries to tent as much as practical lol.

      Thanks Curtis. I’m glad I’m not the only snorer, hence why I like renting. Lol. Interesting about your smoking comment. I’ve only seen a small handful of smokers on the trips I’ve done. It’s not very common, or is it?

    • @BCHiker
      @BCHiker 2 роки тому +1

      Not that common anymore, I think I was one of the last lol
