- Riding one of the best mountain bike rides in Scotland on my EMTB. The munro of Sgor Gaoith by ebike was pretty epic! This vlog is a a solo MTB ride up and down this 1118m mountain in Scotland. My EMTB is a Vitus E-Sommet VRS with a 630kw Shimano Steps Ep8 motor.
This adventure ride is rightly known as one of the best MTB rides in Scotland with a mostly rideable climb (at least on the ebike!) followed by amazing views over Loch Einich and a fantastic descent. It's not often you get a munro with no hike a bike! The trail down the Sgor Gaoith munro was fast, rocky and technical in the top half then had more flow and flat out sections in the lower. Probably a black graded descent if you could give it a rating! Of course it isn't purpose built and therefore has natural features and rock which make fun and technical mountain bike riding.
For those that may not know, a munro is the name given to a mountain in Scotland over 3000 feet high. There are 277 munros in Scotland. Many people go munro bagging which means to climb all of them. Some good bikepacking routes in there where you can stay at a bothy on some of them.
The EMTB was on eco mode the whole route and this made it a good physical challenge when climbing and manoevering water bars. If you want to see more mountain rides then check out these two which were just incredible too:
Lochnagar Waterfall descent, Cairngorms -

Still find it incredible that these e-bikes, with all the sophisticated mechanics and electrical, can take all this punishment. Amazing ride down.
yeah the technology is pretty incredible! Also find it amazing how they can take all the rain/puddles/slop through winter!
Thanks Laura, good video. amazing views from up there and nice lenghty descent.
Glad you enjoyed it. It was pretty incredible. Definitely one I’d do again!
Totally amazing views 😳👌
Yep pretty breathtaking!
Another great video. I went up there with my son and a friend of his but without any e-assistance. It is a hard old slog to the top but so worth it for the views and that magical descent.
Thanks! Nice one. Yeah you get a good feeling of accomplishment when you go through the pain getting to the top on a regular bike. It’s quite a breathtaking view isn’t it!
Brutal descent!! New sub laura🔝💪
Thanks! 🙌
Amazing Laura. Rode well hun. Great vid x. Ps hope u avin gd time up in lakes x
Thanks! Enjoyed it. Yep definitely am! Cheers 👊
Love the ebike content keep it coming
Thanks!
Going to Aviemore in September, hoping to tick of Sgor Gaoith of the list…great video 👍
Oh enjoy! Its a cracking one! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed your ride, I’m an old eBiker and I stay low nowadays. Perhaps it might be better to leave these trails to hikers. Just my 10 cents. Happy trails.
Why should they get all the fun. Maybe best nobody goes up the hill but then that’s feasible, fair or necessary.
So what did Wee Tam catch... or did the big ones get away? Classic descent that and good for you doing it in the dry. Don't think that middle section of the descent would stand up to much riding in wetter conditions. Definitely a bit of everything on the downhill though. I took a vehicle track further south onto the plateau - reckon you could ebike all of that climb and the views were stunning.
Quite a bit! 6 pikes that day. And then there’s all the other days 😅 lots of trout!
Yeah I was thinking the exact same coming down. That whole middle bit would be a massive bog to be avoided. Probably half the year! Definitely one for dry conditions. Thanks! Someone had told me about it but only just before and I had no signal to check it out properly. Will definitely be having a blast up it next time!
Great vid. Did Tam catch any trout?
Thanks! He actually ended up catching a few pike!
does the shimano motor have a walk mode like the Bosch? would make the pushing up a lot less tiring :)
Good point 🤣 I’m new to this ebike thing haha I’m pretty sure it does. Will need to test it out next time!
Yes you just click down then when it says walk just keep the button pressed in
I reckon a bit of tree planting wouldn't go wrong in that lovely country.
Hi where did you park to do this?
Hi on the road between feshiebridge and achlean there’s a good car park and there’s another further along past achlean. Either are good for the loop.
Any strava details for route info?
yeah sure I should have added it in the description but forgot. It's here www.strava.com/activities/7350881751
Thanks, hopefully have a go this summer
Is there a fishing video coming out soon?🤣
Don’t tempt him 🤣 at this rate there’ll be a new channel. Wee Tam and The Trout 😆
Great video Laura 😎🤙🏻 Did Tam catch any fish 🎣 ❓
Thanks! He did- quite a few! He forgot his pics this time tho 😆
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB No pics! No fish 🤷🏼♂️😜 I think you should let Tam do a post credit fishing section 🤙🏻 also would like to see the pup👍🏻
Haha I’m sure that’ll be coming soon at the rate he’s fishing 🤣
There is another route that is ridable with no push up.
Thanks! I got told about it just before but had no signal to check it out properly. I didn’t have much pushing on this tho overall and was quite fun on the climb. Will defo be checking it out next time tho for a blast!
