I recently watched the Sight and Sound play of "David". He appeared to be playing a lyre but in a different configuration. It appeared to have 5 different chord groupings that could be plucked or strumed. Is such an instrument available or was it just for show?
I’m sorry, I have not seen the show and can’t comment on it. Most sources say that David played either a 7 string or a 10 string lyre. A chord is simply a combination of two or more notes played in a harmonic way. Technique and pattern can change based on the player. David was a shepherd boy. keeping this in mind and the time he lived, his lyre would likely be small so that it’s easy to take around while he leads his flock. Construction will also be very basic.
@@RichardDalbey I found out that the lyre used for the show is custom made and built to be able to play by chords rather than the traditional way of stringing lyres and harps to make it easier for the actor to sing and play the lyre. Marini Harps made the lyre for them. Where did you get the sticker gems? Or what are they called so I can look them up? I really like this idea.
I got them from Michael’s a craft store near me but I have also seen similar ones at my local dollar stores in their craft isle
Is there a color code that you're following? @@learningthelyreharp
@@dewaynehixson4440 I'm following the general color coding for harps. C's are red and F's are blue. ❤
Thank you for videos. I am just starting my Lyre journey with your book. Can you please explain the strap that is on your lyre. I am left handed thus have the rounded side of the Lyre against my body. I am needing some more support as I would like to use both hands. I thought of using a Velcro strip on the lyre and a Velcro band on my wrist. Any ideas please on best support to use?
Congratulations on starting the lyre. The strap you see is made of cotton fabric. It’s tied to one of lyre arm and I looped it around my wrist to help me hold the lyre. I have since discovered that it is not necessary to do this if we are sitting down correctly with our lyre. I shared this in a video awhile ago. I will try to find it and post it in a follow up comment

Hi, I have some sheet music that says "Key B(flat)", does this mean I must adjust my tuning or is there merely something I do not understand?
If the sheet music is stating all B flats, this is in F major key. You have to adjust your tuning so that you are in the key indicated by the sheet music or transpose the song to the key of C.
Could you please tell me how and which strings to color code. I really couldn't see which color for which string. It would be so appreciated.
I colored my Fs blue and Cs red. ❤
@@learningthelyreharp Thank you.
