phil reynolds - you're right there are other influences but ABBA is dominant. Some Bowie, but not as much as Reflektor which was overtly Bowie. The early released tracks also had a lot of Talking Heads and Simple Minds influences. Now the full album, it's pretty diverse, some Daft Punk, reggae, all over the place really. I want to like it, but it's also a little frustrating. I like elements, but it sounds like they were trying to sound 'throw away' at the risk of actually throwing it all away. I think I have to drink some whiskey and decide for myself. 🥃
For decades " Wake up" was the highlight of every Arcade Fire concert. Nowadays its "Everything now" that makes people jump around. Check out the AF Show at Kalorama festival in Lisbon 2023. This brilliant song will stand the test of time and will be found on several movie soundtracks in the future.

I heard the day before on my transistor radio (we weren't allowed phones or anything) that Arcade Fire would be on live the next day so I tuned in. I did, and as it happened it came on at a time when my group were behind schedule and walking along a long, straight B-Road in the middle of nowhere (those are always the worst parts). If I remember correctly, the station was running behind schedule because there were so many instruments to set up. Man, this performance kept me going. I still remember feeling the energy in spite of hearing this on a tiny, crackly radio. This song always takes me back to that day. Thank you, guys.
I like how they all seems so happy to play the song live. For me it's contagious, they're enjoying playing their music live and it shows every time they play live. It's a band who are proud of what they make and I have to say, not many musician today can make music live from instruments with the quality those guys are delivering.

I grew up listening to Arcade Fire. First heard of them when I was 13, I’m 25 now. This song is such a great resolution to a lot of the angsty songs they used to release (that I still love!)

I wasn't aware they'd worked together; turns out the band jumped at the chance to show their mutual, and heart-felt gratitude.........for the music Bowie offered us all. Dave was informed, and the connection was quickly made. Doesn't surprise any Bowie fan; he was the master of the master of the music being created by this Canadian band.

Lets also take a moment to appreciate that this is a subversive act of high proportions - I mean you've got this jangling disco inspired pop confection that was blaring out of every shop, home and car - indeed kids singing it here - which is great - and in fact its a gloriously angry and disaffected shot at a world drowning in the superficial, consumerism and the pursuit of some ad mans idea of a happiness thats unattainable. Finally at the end he tell's how it makes him feel, those beautiful, heart rending closing lines .... - 'cant live without everything now, I cant live, and every piece of my heart is filled with things I'll never start, the ashes of everything now, I am in the black again, cant make It back again, from everything now'.......that is pretty dark and very on the nose for a pop record. More power to them.
Think this will be a piece which will sound just as good in ten years time as it does now. Can't believe they got the kid from 'children of the corn' on double bass. Much love!
