As a person who was OCD about drawing w\ pencil & terrified of pen, I took the plunge & started straight to pen. The world shook & sky opened! It has been an amazingly liberating experience. I've actually started to enjoy creating again. So go for it!
Hello from the Pacific Northwest, USA. I just found you amid the 2020 Covid surge and I truly needed the uplift and joy of this demo. I too love line and wash now that I've given it a try. I've drawn for years and our drawing styles are quite similar but I see clearly that I have lots to learn from you. Thank you so very much.
Thank you so much, Dales Millennium Trust. I’m just two weeks into pen drawing and am really looking forward to stays in the Dales to learn some skills. I used to visit the house in Clapham where the Dalesman was printed, stayed in the Old Vicarage and visited Annie’s cafe many times. What a beautiful village. John Harrison at work is a joy to watch and I’m pleased you’ve commissioned him to show his workings. I look forward to future episodes and hopefully future commissions with him. Great stuff.
Pen and ink is my favorite medium. I love how you are able to capture really fine detail. It always amazes me to see how different artist interpret different scenery's. I really enjoyed watching you! First time watcher and a new subscriber!
Thanks to the Trust for sharing this workshop. Question for John: the handout says you only use Saunders Waterford. Don't you also use a different paper in your sketchbook?
MK Buike Thanks for picking that up: I should have been clearer-I only use Saunders Waterford for work outside my sketchbooks. In my Seawhite or Moleskine sketchbooks , the paper used by the manufacturers is very similar to the Saunders Waterford, which is why I chose these books.

Even a novice like me can see there's a forking hole in the wall.
It might just be my impression, but John seems to have no eyelashes?
