Lets see. Know how displacement in after effects is affected by black and white levels? you could for instance make a solid black layer, and then a solid white one above that one. And for instance, add a mask in form of the face of the character present in the edit onto the white solid. Perhaps feather that mask a bit. If you were now to pre compose this layer, you could make it invisible, and add a displacement map effect onto the photo of the character present in the edit. Then putting the displace layer to the invisible layer, and increasing the displacement. you would get an interesting 3d effect of you did it right. *There is a preset for this. But i dont have the name in mind*

I'll try going through the steps without making it confusing haha: 1. mask out the part you want to animate 2. duplicate the later 3. redraw what you're going to animate (on the original layer) 4. for me, I add the puppet tool which helps give movement to the layers (sometimes I just scale or use position) 5. make any needed adjustments It's a lil confusing but if you search up animation tutorials (or something like that) you'll be able to find something! :)
