    Important update: According to MS Graphica, the Karl is developed by Anaheim Electronics, following the Jegan. This however goes against a whole bunch of other sources (original Hathaway Flash novels, Gundam Narrative complementary materials, SD games) which firmly states the Karl has being federation self made (SNRI) and being separate from the Jegan and Jesta lines.

    • @deaconblues1823
      @deaconblues1823 Рік тому

      Do you have hard citations for your claim (publication, page number, etc)? Nothing of the sources you rattled off "firmly" indicate the Karl as Federation as being "self-made." There sure isn't anything in the Hathaway's Flash novel that states this. The profile in the front of the book only gives a bland descriptor for it being the EFF mainstay MS. SNRI wasn't even a thing when the novel originally came out (that was all clever backstory for smaller MS via F91). Plus, nothing in the books even touches on the suit background. As for Narrative materials, there are very, very few Narrative resources and nothing in those books indicate what you are claiming (they all basically say the same thing). Despite all that, F90FF's Monthly Mobile calls out both the Jegan and the Karl by SNRI as part of the need for downsizing. The whole purpose of SNRI was to point out the fallacies in modern MS design. Why would they develop an absolutely chonky and ginormous suit only to ridicule it? To be fair, the monthly column probably wasn't available whenever this video was made, so... But I hate to say it, if it were true, the Japanese Wikipedia would definitely have a citation for that fact.

    • @gundamfacts
      @gundamfacts  Рік тому +1

      @Deacon Blues i see what you are trying to tell. For the Hathaway Flash novels, it sums up at the description of the Karl it provides (Dora and Gustav), being "federation new mainstay machines created for/by the special forces (I've seen both translations)" (the Gustav being the commander use version at that time), sure it doesn't say SNRI directly, but it's not Anaheim Electronics and only SNRI actively produced machines for the Feds in those years. The old SD games confirm to this, with the same description for the Karl. The Narrative MSV (which you can find Zeonic own traduction I think) also indicates the Karl is Stat wise Gundam tier, which doesn't fit Anaheim regular policies (if we exclude stand offs like the Jesta, Nu MP, Hardyguns and G Custom from FF ) but strangely fit exactly SNRI standards. I've also seen people in Japanese forums pointing how we strangely see A LOT of Karls in SNRI facilities in FF, and how the F89 often use Karl weapons, but that's really a dubious take so I wouldn't really take it into consideration.
      I do understand that you may want some hard sources but Gundam is not a western media, and "Canon" and hard facts are often left to implications. Aside the MS Bibles and the official MSV (and even them tend to contradict themselves far too often as soon a new mangaka decide to have his cake and eat it), continuity is left muddy (when MS Bibles doesn't invent new stuff like the Jabaco being related to the Contio for no good reasons).
      In the end it sums up at: If SNRI didn't produced the Karl, nor Anaheim, then who the hell did, since by the mid UC90 all federal development team are folded into the SNRI (which FF is trying to cement now) . It was one of my earliest video at that time and I now tend to point out when things are that muddy and unsure, but well, the take is still valid for a number of people.
      Bonus point: I've seen people on Japanese forums pointing out how FD-03 is a model number too similar to the DC-50 used by the Loto (which is SNRI made) in contrast to the MSA-RGM codename structure from AE. I think it is also worth mentioning that the Narrative files indicate the existence of a light armor Karl and that the chubby armor (which still dowsize an absurd number of verniers and pack many thrusters) is a transition stage, which the prequel manga to the HF movie almost exploited (which introduced Light Armor Karls with a specific design that the movie sadly dropped for the less chubby but still bulky Type 00)

    08:07 I feel a great embarrassment when I think about this MS. The most abused unit by enemies that I have seen. I haven't seen this obese MS perform any good fights. The fight against the Jestas in Unicorn was disappointing and in Narrative it was trampled on by a geriatric Dijeh. An MS from U.C. 0087 took a beating on a unit launched in U.C 0096. I saw another video by Gamore about the Jegan and he seems to think that the Gustav Karl is a descendant of the Jegan. Also, on his videos on the Formula Project, the explanation of how the SNRI started aiming from early on (as early as 0096 with the Loto) for miniaturized MS in contrast to Anaheim's ever larger MS designs that culminated with the Messer, Xi Gundam and Penelope Gundam, does make it sound more right to assume that the Gustav Karl is another Anaheim Electronics design following the same concept.
    Aside from that, most info I have seen don't mention who made the Gustav Karl, so I honestly don't know if it's being left purposely ambiguous. I do like the idea that the Gustav Karl could be a direct descendant of the GM series, one unrelated to Anaheim Electronics, but at this time I do feel more inclined to believe that the Gustav Karl makes more sense as an AE mobile suit design rather than an SNRI's.

    • @gundamfacts
      @gundamfacts  Рік тому +3

      The thing is that it is stated pretty clearly in the Narrative MSV that the Karl is developed by Federation engineers (SNRI) and NOT by Anaheim. It also indicated the Karl is NOT related directly to the Jegan nor Jesta and that a light Armored more compact version was undergoing development
      (Bonus, we do know SNRI started with non miniaturized MS, notably the F89. A japanese popular theory is that the Karl is developed from the Jeed Striker X1, while the Loto is developed from a mix of the Jeed Cannon X2 and the Jeed Burstliner X3)

    • @nugget6635
      @nugget6635 Рік тому +1

      Yes but the large-ass Anaheim designs actually had some advantages such as the Xi Gundam's Minovsky Flight System which is in fact a very miniaturized version of something that previously only existed in Pegasus Class Assault Carriers... These large devices would later on only be miniaturized with their full capabilities when the Victory Gundam arrived because it has not only a miniaturized version of it... But also a massively improved version of it small enough to fit inside miniaturized mobile suits with even better capabilities than the Xi Gundam's...

    • @ZeonicFenrir
      @ZeonicFenrir Рік тому +2

      @@nugget6635 Supposedly the Minovsky Drive was first used in the Babylonian Vanguard (later renamed Mother Vanguard) all the way back on 0128, used to aid the ship perform the otherwise 3 month long journey to Jupiter in just 150 hours.
      I do see some problems with using such system on a MS instead of a ship: while inside a ship the crew wouldn’t be affected by the speed of the ship assuming acceleration & deceleration are properly controlled, having the same propulsion system on a MS meant to use such system for quick maneuvers could detrimental, if not outright dangerous for the human pilot, but thankfully Uso’s plot armor prevents him from suffering any side effects (or perhaps rather we are to assume he only uses a small fraction of the MD’s capacity, which would sound at least a bit “wasteful”).
      Overall I think it should be a propulsion system used on large ships meant to make interplanetary journeys or the autonomous mobile weapons from UC 0223-0224, aside from obvious uses such as missiles or “thrusters” for moving large objects in space (asteroids, colonies, etc.).
      Otherwise, you start walking into “we need enhanced soldiers/pilots” route, which could quickly devolve into the same sort of arms race to produce cyber newtypes during the 1st UC, if not forcefully procuring them through other means. Either that, or you really need to dial down the actual capacities of the MD, which kind of beats the point of having it in the first place.
      There do is the whole wings of light and some of the “peculiar” effects, such as disabling the large number of Zolo Top & Bottom terminals… which doesn’t make much sense for the Top ones: the Bottom terminals do are supposed to be controlled via a remote system, which I vaguely recall reading somewhere was Minovsky related, but the Top terminals are all supposed to be manned and we don’t see Uso disabling other MS in similar fashion. Plot hole I guess?
      There’s also the case of Uso “bending” the wings to use them as a frontal shield against Katejina’s final attack, which again doesn’t make much sense, namely because they should partly result in the MS being propelled simply as a result of the wings being emitted.
      I could continue ranting about how these things don’t follow much logic, but I digress.
      The important part is that the Minovsky Drive was created with a different approach in mind than the Minovsky Craft/Flight system, but unlike those systems, the MD’s use on MS should actually raise more eyebrows.
      In a more realistic setting I would even say that MD in MS seems more the result of engineers spending more time asking themselves “can we?” rather than “should we?”.
      All that aside, I will just add that the Messer itself actually just follows the size of the Sazabi, which shares the same head height spec (the funnel containers do make the Sazabi larger). The simple way I can think of this is that the Messer was trying to bridge the gap between the mass production Geara Doga and the one of a kind Sazabi… unless you count the 89 MSN-04B units produced according to one of the mangas, though the point stands of AE mass producing larger units.
