I remember the first version of Void. When you placed 3 Void units, it gifted your WHOLE team a 50% Armor ignore. This combined with 6 Assasins was just wild. Seeing enemy units dissapear after getting critted for 4K damage was hilarious. It was my go-to comp in Set 1. Say what you want on this set, but my god. how much i would give to play it again.
It was beautiful. You've got to give the OG developers max respect for just how brilliant of a job they did early on. Even the broken things became iconic but everything got a chance to shine at some point.
I think set 1 is the only set where oyou can justify bs stuff as "fun" because the players werent competitive and barely anyone knows how to play the game so broken stuff arent instantly abused But with set 2,its not longer the case, people know how to play TFT so broken stuff got abused faster and harder which is why set 2 balance was so bad
i played set 1 on the 1st day it came out an it felt like a fresh a new experience for the entire set, but how could you forget the triple shoujin pyke reroll were he would auto once and stun the whole board
Sorry bro, there's only so much I can include, but there was at least a few Pyke builds mentioned... Fuck that champ was amazing, but I'm biased because in SR I'm a Pyke OTP KEKW
I feel like i should mention how broken pantheon was on release. I was by no means good at the game but even I knew he was broken. this is a unit with guardian and dragon trait. guardian gives +50 armor to all units around them with 2 guardian active and there's braum, leona, and pantheon, which meant pantheon gets +100 free armor just like that. pantheon's base armor was also 100 for some god forsaken reason on launch and dragon trait still had immunity to magic damage when he first released, so placing two guardians next to him gets him 200 base armor with no items and having an asol or shyvana gives him immunity to magic damage. you can also buff shyvana with a +150 armor buff by placing the guardian units around her. his ability stunned the farthest target and he casts his ult in league on that target, dealing max hp damage to all units it passes through and applying a 2% burn with grevious wounds. his ability was the only one that did percent max hp damage and the day after he released it went from 15/30% to 10/20% at 1 and 2 star respectively. the stun was cut by more than half from 4/6 to 2 seconds on all ranks. his mana cost was increased to 200 from 150. it should be noted grevious wounds doesn't cut like it does in modern times. this used to be a 99% heal cut that straight up removes healing from the game. on this same hotfix guardian was nerfed from 50 armor to 35 armor. and my dumb ass was like "MAGE PANTHEON, FULL AP ONE SHOT GO BRRRRR"
Rengar triple sojin, frog jumping all around was so fun to see even if the comp sucked!!! I miss the eraly imbalance, I would love for my jumping kitty to come back !!!
i feel like in way this video describes not only tft early enjoyability but also just most games in general, the idea of broken stuff, stupid stuff, funny etc was a lot more present at one point in time. Then gaming became way to competitive and the fun started to drop, its just not the same anymore
This was a part of my script originally, I decided to cut it because I thought it was a bit disingenuous, TFT has slowly been stripped away of the things that made it fun, but it was done for a reason, and the reason is sustainability, while Set One is absolutely crazy, that kind of design philosophy isn't sustainable long term, broken stuff is really fun for a minute, but when it IS the game, it gets frustrating real fast, and they DO need to focus on the competitive side because that's how you can easily keep a game sustainable long term. Plus for like 5 sets literally every reddit post ever was "MUHHHH BALANCE" I'm not sad that TFT has ended up the way that it has, I'm just sad for the others that didn't get to experience what it was, because it was truly insane
@@Nomsynho I love this amazing reply man, thank you so much for sharing! no yeah, I totally get what you are saying and easily agree, the way its gone is basically the way it needed to go to stay afloat. I was one of those unlucky ones who didn't get to experience the peak time as I started league in general sometime in early 2021but I can easily relate when it comes to other games. I feel like those moments just don't hit the same anymore usually because stuff like old tft would receive more hate than love today from people who don't appreciate its iconic begginings. It sucks but this video was really nice to kinda get an idea of what it was like, I would have easily seen this as some of the most enjoyable games of TFT ever
I absolutely loved set 1 Kassadin, I used to force him every time I played just because of how funny it was seeing him slowly swing tthat sword while listening to brazillian pagode. Or seeing him solo the entire game with a guinsoo and hope lmao
Set 1 was the Wild West of TFT, there was so much to discover, so much wackiness, and frankly a ton of bullshit! BUT THAT WAS SO FUN! I kinda miss that level of volatility in a way. With the game becoming more balanced, frameworks put in place and homogenisation, modern TFT lacks that feeling of awe you get when you discover something completely new I'm feeling this a lot right now with Set 12. There's a ton of reprints, nothing really stands out, and despite being dubbed Magic and Mayhem, it doesn't really have that Set 1 magic Idk maybe I'm being too pessimistic but nonetheless fantastic video as always!
Wow already pessimistic about 12? Ive only played ten games, seems pretty good but I know what you mean TFT I still love this game but I just miss some of the stuff you could do. I don't blame riot for taking the steps they did, and I'll talk about why in my next video, but suffice to say I think they're too afraid of taking risks But thanks man, means a lot coming from you!
@@Nomsynho yeah I'm really feeling the lack of risks in this Set, but there's also safe stuff that I miss like support units There's very little of that in 12 and it feels very 1 dimensional. Every unit is either a tank or carry But I'm looking forward to your next video! I'm eager to hear what you think
Playing in high-ish Elo back then this I feel like this gives a great summary of what was in Set 1 but not what the play experience was as I remembered. ‘Everything’ may or may not have been broken but what was definitely the most broken of all were the 4 cost cc tanks. The most consistent strategy to top 4 every game was to tempo out with morello on liss/kennen and an adc item holder (could also be nid or even shyv), with early alkali being a highroll item holder. Send it to 0 on seven to play around an adc like jinx/kaisa/kayle plus as many of cho/sej/leona/gnar as possible, no synergies required. The 4 cost tanks back then had way overturned damage cc and bulk. The early game was flexible and cap out was flexible, the broken through line was the absolute consistency of 4 cost cc tanks and the level seven roll down.
Set one is what made me fall in love with this game. I still remember Chronos being so frustrating I quit the game, I can’t believe how far this game has come.
this set should be called "sandbox" about what to do and what to not do about TFT tbh, as u mention it, everything was broken so nothing is broken, but it also helped alot with some crazy stuff we never had again (PHANTOM KEKW)
Frozen Demon volibear with silence, disarm and cursed blade was so fun. It obviously had no damage, but the disruption was insane. It was so good, I had a game where I just played him twice. Or double hurricane Ashe had 4 bolts, because hurricanes stacked on itself. Set 1 and I'd also say set 2 had so many interesting interactions. Maybe it's because everything was new. As we get more sets, there are only so many original ideas, or twists on a game mechanic, like set 11 sage and set 9 strategists are both concepts of front and backline getting different stats. Set 3 is when the game started to feel more balanced but the traits were boring. I think that's when players started thinking about the concept of strongest board. Riot have removed a lot of interactions too. There are no more on hit builds or if there are, they now need 2 rageblades to play optimally. runann's hurricane lost it's on hit ability so now it just deals AD dmg to a different unit. Items have lost their identity to normalise the experience when you don't hit the exact components you need. The new set 11 artifacts had the feeling of making everything broken again but with the drawback of being way less accessible.
I think when Polt came into the game that's sort of the tipping point for some people, they saw his ultra high tempo and strong board playstyle get rank one and it sort of just spread from there, I literally went from like hard stuck DIV to GM in a week just because of Polt Yeah I mean it's clear Riot KNOWS that people like broken shit and are trying to give it to us, so at least they're trying
I loved set 1 so much that I got really sad when they introduced set 2 and changed everything. In my mind there was no way they could match the magic of set 1. I ended up droping tft altogether because of it. I returned on set 11 and it's a great game but it just doesn't compare to the chaotic bulshit storm of absolute fun that set 1 was.
nothing will be as dumb fun as Golden knights in set 1. Reroll hard for all the 1 cost knights + Vayne. super fat frontline while Vayne 1v7s, just like in regular League!
