Okay I made this recipe last night cause I’m obsessed with pears and cardamom (and I always have cardamom in the house) and this cake is soooo unique and delicious, I am DEFINITELY making this for thanksgiving and the holidays. Can’t wait for my guests to taste this!
I made this cake with 1 cup of buttermilk and no sour cream ,and only 3tbl of melted butter and 1 egg. The texture was great, moist and flavorful. My hubby loved it .It is a keeper. Make sure your cardomon has fresh flavor as if it is old it loses the flavor.
I have cardamom tea every single day. The taste is unbelievable. Apparently it has one of the highest ORAC antioxidant scores in the world. I agree. Americans are in love with their apples and most don't want to experiment with other fruits. The pear cardamom combo is complementary and chic. Something you would def find in Europe.
Discovered cardamom a few months ago and could not get enough of it. It is especially amazing in yogurt cake. This recipe sounds perfect with a cup of coffee. Thanks, Laura.
I made this DELICIOUS cake. I followed her instructions, no substitutions or whatsoever and it came out PERFECTLY! My boys loved it and it’s definitely a repeat recipe.
I just made this last night and it turned out wonderful. Moist and prefect amount of sweetness. The cardamom was a bit overpowering so next time I’ll reduce the amount to 1/4-1/2 tp. Thanks for another great recipe!
So you found it overpowering? I think I will try as you say 1/4 teaspoon at first and if I like it, I'll increase it if i like it. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Laura I tried your pear and cardamom cake and it came out successful. Everybody liked it. Unfortunately I did not have any cardamom powder so I opened a few cardamom pods and used those in the mixture. I got some complaints on those cardamom seeds. Can I next time use cinnamon instead. I just broke the cardamom and grinded them, but not so well, was wondering like you if I should put the seeds instead. Ok, going out to buy ground cardamom instead. Can't wait to try it!

I really want to make this cake at the weekend, but I worry that an oven as hot as 375F will dry out the cake if it’s baked for 45 minutes. How about 350F and 1hr or a little less?
