- Further down the GRAND CANAL we reach the water city of LIAOCHENG in SHANDONG PROVINCE. A handful of wonderful historical spots await as we wander around this little-visited city! Enjoy!
I really appreciate the way you film and talk. Its calm and peaceful. No bgm no drama .Just show the things as they are.
I'm very happy you like it! There is already enough drama in other channels 😂
Wow, nice find. This deserves much more views.
Cheers, i think so too 😀😀
Great explanation of the history of the place ❤❤❤.
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it!
nick deserve ten time more subscribers.. all his videos are for the seriously big fan of art history.. very intelligent production.. without the condescending ''open mouth clickbait shot'' when idiots talks about China.. this video is jaw dropping.. the architecture is amazing.. somehow I missed this video.. must be very cold in the winter.. with all that pile of snow..
Your channel is a gem too! I don't know any other youtubers who go to places you go to. You've shown us magnificent traditional Chinese architecture. Cheers.
Thanks a lot! I hope the channel keeps developing...plenty of interesting places in China to keep me going
New subscriber here. I love China.
Thanks, and welcome!! It's an amazing country
Glad that you enjoyed your day in Liaocheng, Nick!
I did enjoy it. I actually stayed a couple of days, quite a nice place
Never heard of LiaoCheng before. On the map the nearest city is Jinan to the East, famous for its natural springs. Jinan plays a central role in the popular Qing dynasty "Travelogue of Old Ch'an." The architecture in that guild hall is special, quite well preserved. Wonder if it was under protection during the cultural revolution. (4:26) (4:48) (4:52) The sculptures in this hall are unlike anything typically found in Chinese temple halls. They are fine pieces of art, rather modern, and could be the work of graduates from famous art schools. They blend well with the brick hall. This city is worth a visit.
Yeh, not too far from Jinan. It's worth a visit for the Guild Hall. The old town is nice and tranquil by the water, but not too much too see there
There is another iron pagoda in Zhenjiang city (Zhenjiang Beigu Mountain iron pagoda, built in Song Dynasty). Zhenjiang city is also along the Grand Canal.
Indeed there is....keep watching the channel and you may well see it a little further on my journey 😎
Richard Clyderman and Kenny G came in China early, when there wasn't much competition in their domain. The huge fan base has a long tail effect.
For real. Kenny G is China shopping mall music, if he gets royalties for every time 'Going Home' is played he must be doing very well indeed 😂😂
@@nickinchina2552 I used to travel with old trains. When you hear 'Going Home' in the coach, it means he distination has arrived.
in the late 1980s and early 90s, Richard Clyderman was the most popular western musician in China or perhaps East Asia, it was on the radio all the time and everyone owned copies of his cassettes. He was bigger than the Beatles.
He is still hugely popular and tours China. He played in Xi'an not that long ago
This is my parents home town, i’m in the USA but we often go back to see family, we aren’t on the main island but on the banks of the mainland, love this review man!
Oh cool! Glad you enjoyed the video, I had a nice couple of days in Liaocheng!
Thats amazing dude, the shandong province welcomes you to all its wonders! Have a good one!
amazing video as always Nick, so fascinating!
Brillant. Never heard of the place before but now I will make a side trip to visit when I travel to Jinan.
this city was a big deal in that classic novel "all men are brothers".
It's a nice day trip, but don't expect too much from the old town. The walk around the walls is very nice though!
Yep!
i love the first 30 seconds of the video u made, which uses a bird's-eye view to navigate a little-known city and tell us its shaping history. Thank you❤❤❤
Thanks!!!! 😘😘😘 It's not often I use my drone, it usually stays in my bag due to my fear of bothering people 😂😂 This city looks lovely from above through! Thanks again, it helps me so much.
Thank you, Nick.
Very welcome. Hope you enjoyed it!
Liaocheng, 'ay? Man - I haven't been out there in ages. Nice one... I'm guessing there probably aren't too many Liaocheng vids on UA-cam! That Guild Hall was awesome though!
It was a nice couple of days. I also assume youtube is a bit thin on Liaocheng videos haha
What a serene place--except for the firecrackers and honking. This is the first time I've learned about guild hall. Thank you for another informative video.
Yes! Kenny G and Richard Clayderman were very popular in China, in the late 80s and 90s. hahahaha. How long have you been in China?
A long time, over a decade. Glad you liked the video (and the Kenny G talk haha)
I loved the Guild Hall. I thought that it was beautiful.
❤️🙏❤️
Love old wooden buildings 😍😍
It’s Ming dynasty’s anicent city ❤️🩹👍💐
When u go to zhouzhi that interesting place😌
soon!!!
That was a lovely video.
From the air the view of the old town is really beautiful
Yessss! It looks great just sitting there in the middle of the lake. Beautiful!
👍👍
How can you have such a long holiday!
Well, i'm actually back at work now, these were filmed during my winter holidays. But yeh, i do have long holidays 😂
Kenny G is/was popular in Malaysia too 😂
Hahah! Taking over Asia!
肖亚文的餐馆还开着吗?
Very happy to have new videos to watch. I was slowly able to appreciate the beauty of ancient Chinese wooden architecture, which was not easy to feel before. Living in the concrete forest of the city, high-rise buildings with various glass curtain walls, and modern-style cities are a bit samey, but some small towns with a long history that retain their own characteristics do give people a refreshing feeling. Maybe I need to rediscover it, thanks Nick for the introduction and wish you all the best.
The goal is a new video every Wednesday and Sunday...for the next few weeks at least. Very happy you enjoying the history!
