Taking on more work using more staff doesn’t always make more money I have found. When you seem to already have the perfect formula, it’s difficult to improve..Bless you both 🙏
I remember Motaquip parts at my local Lacey's independent motor factors in the early 1980's, I didn't know their car parts were still available. Great video, everyday is a learning day guys.
Another nice job Lewis. Not wanting to steal your thunder about the Motaquip stuff, I realise they have helped you out on this job, but there are a few people commenting so this might help clarify. After retiring from the electronics industry for a couple of years, I found myself in need of work and ended up working for Euro Car Parts for ten years! Consequently, I know a fair bit about aftermarket parts and brands. Motaquip have been owned by Comline for a long time. They are OK quality, but OE would be stretching it. Euro have their own brand, Starline, which looks pretty much identical to me, it mostly comes from Chinese and Eastern European factories, carries 3 year warranty (in theory) etc., this is the same for Motaquip. The only true OEM aftermarket brand that you could apply to BMW suspension wise would be Lemforder, but unfortunately they now outsource manufacture to eastern factories so probably not what it was. For anyone with E46's, the aftermarket front droplinks are a notoriously short lasting part, Meyle produce a heavy duty aftermarket link that is better than the original, not expensive, well worth a try if yours need replacing.
Good points but bottom line, we wouldn't have fitted them to our own cars if we weren't happy with the quality. Time will tell on durability but we're pretty confident. This is why we do videos like this, so people can see before fitting their own when doing the same job. The parts will be tested on the Welsh country roads!
@@WhitelandRestorations I'm sure they'll be OK Lewis. There's a lot of luck involved now when buying any car parts, even main dealer parts. When I worked for ECP, we had customers who refused to buy certain brands having had one problem with one part. Reviews for Comline products are mixed, some great some terrible. How many of the problems are incorrect fitment? Quite a lot I bet. ECP used to have a suspension brand called OCAP, they were absolute crap, but very cheap, so a lot of people would fit them to cars needing MOT's to sell on. I risked a pair of bottom arms for my last E46, they threw the front wheel alignment out by miles. The Starline brand I mentioned are massive in Eastern Europe where the main factories are based, again, some customers swore by them, some swore at them! I've used quite a few Starline products and they've been fine. Lemforder used to be the best, Moog seem very close to OE quality at a good price, I always rated Febi, but some say that their quality has dropped. As you say, time and the Welsh roads will tell, only to be surpassed by West Yorkshire roads!
Check out M539restoration channel for OE / OE+ BMW LOVE ! He's reaching another level, which is not what is wanted here. But we can learn additional informations going the same way as you. He's been through disappointment with Lemforder and has quit this brand. Good job to rejuvenate this legendary automobile Lewis!
Lewis: Presses a bushing in and out of the rear sub-frame in a few minutes 😮 Me: 45 minute video and two days of swearing 🤣 Really coming together now! ❤
Good job, Lewis! I know, it’s a matter of taste but I really liked the patina before you changed bonnet and wings. Now I switch to a French channel to watch a BMW M3 E36 3.2 video. Although BMW is not my thing 😂. See you soon, take care »»» Martin 😊
I’m not sure if I missed it but usually the worst bush on the E46 is the one at the front of the rear trailing arm. The one that diisappears into the rear sill area Always a lot of fun to do, but makes a massive difference to the handling. That one in my opinion is worth fitting the Lemforder bush, you don’t want to be doing it more than once.
My mot tester closed on 20th December until 6th January so got my rover 216vdp, fiat coupe 20v turbo and my sons fiesta as he pleased he’s car test in December (4th time was a charm. I’ve done 23k in the fiesta over the last 2 years until he passed. He did have a break in that time because of mental health issues) He’s getting on with his life now new job, passed he’s cbt, got a Yamaha ybr125, had to redo theory test, got a different instructor as we had moved and passed with 5 minors.
Ref: the 'buy your parts and ask your local independant to fit them', my local garage of choice wants to supply and fit parts as they can warranty them. They won't fit customer supplied parts hence me doing my own Abarth lower arms myself.
I suspect Motaquip are just another resurrection of a failed aftermarkets parts brand, like QH, Croslamd, etc. etc. For me Motaquip parts say Ebay NOS clearance items from the dusty shelves of some closed-0down independent motor factors, but now presumably revived by some corporation to give their Chinese reproduction parts some credibility.... But I respect your opinion on what you actually received and fitted...
You actually couldn't be further from the truth. Motaquip were established in the early 80s by the PSA group, they are not a random Chinese rebrand. The parts are OE quality and if they weren't we wouldn't have fitted them. Not many people have heard of them because they were trade only. Good parts are now a lot more accessible!
My friend and I,used Motaquip parts on our rally cars back in the 90s! Great quality parts at reasonable prices although I’m sure you had to have an account with them! I maybe wrong it was the 90s! My memory maybe letting me down🤣

I can't help but notice the resemblance to the mgzt on the front end aspect, brilliant work Lewis, you can't beat a good solid diesel motor 👍

Good choice, and it will improve the pedal feel
@@WhitelandRestorations i was going to say flexy and hard line dont look too hot in drop link shot
When I worked for a Peugeot dealership motorquip was there chosen second line fit great quality products
Motaquip was actually established by the PSA group in the early 80s! Great products, makes the job a lot easier when parts fit!
Another great video has always 👍

That was nice and relaxing to watch until
Mrs Motaquip sales joined you 😂
She’s the very best. Compliments or silence please.😡

How did you find the wings? Not had much luck on eBay….
We got a tip off about a car that was being broken from a subscriber! Finding rust free original wings is really hard but they are out there.
What was the spray at about 17mins?
The sliver one? That's Wurth's Alu-spray great stuff 👍
@WhitelandRestorations yeah that's the one.
Is this 'The Shopping Channel' for motaquip? I get that they sent you some free stuff but perhaps lay off the hard sell
You haven't seen my hard sell! 😂
"Making sure the wheels are square" That doesn't sound right.
😂 does sound good that one doesn't it lol
