Hello Designistas, this is a step by step video on how to make a perfect pdf sewing pattern template for your digital sewing pattern. Please, leave comments below if you have any questions, promise to get back to you! love you all...
Hi, do you have any videos on how to cut/draft patterns from a block? Or should I say draft/cut different pattern for different styles from a block in Adobe illustrator? Would I would love to know is which tools are for what use. For example: if I want to cut the back bodice “block” and create a low back pattern. Which tool should I use? How do you know that you’re doing the right thing? How do you know, when you cut the block that the measurements don’t change because you’re cutting the block on a blank canvas. Oh I have so many questions. Do you offer one on one?
@@moniquerene1504 Hello Monique, that is a great question. No, I don't have a video about that yet, but it is a good topic. Oh, hey Monique would you tell me a little more about the result you would like to achieve. For example, does the low back top have darts, zipper, straps, or no strap, and what kind the fabric will you use for the top?
@@EncoderFashion hi, I’ve been practicing and following drafting instructions for swimwear. I decided to start with something simple since I’m learning. I’m using a one piece swimwear block/sloper to make a low back one piece swimsuit pattern. The shoulder straps are 3cm wide. I do know the tools in AI from leaning how to do fashion flats but for the pattern making it seams different because there are a lot of measurements involved and it is a lot more technical. I may be overthinking, I’m not sure. If you have an email I can send you the information if you don’t mind.
@@moniquerene1504 of course, my email is encoderfashion@gmail.com and by the way Monique I know you mentioned using Ai for drafting patterns. However, are familiar with clo3d?
This was great! One suggestion-folks need to make sure they have "print centered" turned on in their print settings, or things wind up offset. (There was some debate here as to whether it was printing weird because of a print setting or a PDF issue, and it was TOTALLY a print setting!)
I hope all is well and everyone is healthy.Thank you for sharing, my friend. Stay healthy and safe. Have a very blessed and wonderful week ahead to you and your family. 👍🔔🎁
Thank you for this tutorial! I am having trouble finding all the tools you are using, though - because I don't have the icons in my toolbars. How do you set up the toolbars, and where do you find these items, like "opacity"?
Oh, same here I decided to go school in Europe and I have sell everything I own including my sewing machine, serger, and a lot a lot of fabrics. But you can use what you know and transfer that into virtually design such as sewing, pattern making and much more.
Hi, it’s me again. I followed the template exactly as you described and it turned out perfectly. EXCEPT. I placed my pattern pieces on the template and when I print them out, they are larger than what they are supposed to be.I am working on two separate patterns and they both came out larger. I measured my 1 inch square I printed pattern and it is a little larger then 1 inch. I double checked the original art and it is correct. When I print individual pieces that can fit on standard 8.5 by 11 paper they are perfect. But when I print the PDF they are not. Can you advise what I am doing wrong? As an additional comment, before I found your channel and these instructions, I used a downloadable sewing pattern template that was set up similarly to how you instructed and when they printed out, the PDF pattern was also larger than on my original ai file. It must be a setting I am missing in illustrator. THANK YOU so much for helping me. EDIT I also noticed on printed pdf pattern that some (but not all) circles and cut lines (the 7.5 by 10 borders) are shifted slightly. What I mean by that is that some print closer to the left edge than others. It is random - not a particular row that is out of line.
Hi Donna, based on my understanding is that you print in a pdf format (adobe acrobat software) and the result is larger? May I ask what computer are you PC (for a pc: be sure to select the actual size) or Mac (for mac: be sure to select 100%)? And about the circles/borders, I would suggest that you double-check if they align on the artboards properly. Please, let me know if you have more questions? love you hear from you.
@@EncoderFashion I didn’t realize you responded. Thank you. I figured it out. I was printing from preview and not in Adobe reader. However, now I have a new challenge. My pattern is complete and I’m ready to offer it for sale. But before I upload it, I’ve had some friends print the pattern from their computer as a final test. And, the results are not good. The pattern is not printing the left side on all pages! It’s cutting it off. I printed from my file and the same thing is happening. While testing my pattern through development stages the border centered on the paper correctly. Now it’s shifted and I can’t figure out why. Any advice? Thanks!
When I do it this way and try to print, there's space in between the art boards but no defined line to cut to join the pieces together. Is there a way to do that?
Hello Faith, I understand it can be confusing. To clarify, when you print out your document, you should see the following: numbers on each page, a 1/4 circle in each page corner, and borders on each page. I recommend watching this quick tip video for further assistance: ua-cam.com/video/AaAOGoLhVU8/v-deo.html. I hope this helps! Please share how it goes. Love it, Rose.
Hi, great video! quick question is the idea is to print in letter size paper which standard size is 8.5 inches x 11 inches, why do you change the settings to 7.5 x 10 inches? Please let me know, thanks!
Hi Katherine, thanks for the question. Let me explain, imagine 7.5 x 10 is a drawing on an 8.5 x 11 inches paper. This because we place the pattern onto this drawing so we can connect from one drawing to the next without losing the pattern size. This is the link for my pdf mask pattern ua-cam.com/video/AaAOGoLhVU8/v-deo.html please let me know if you have more questions.
@@EncoderFashion I was wondering the same...so, by working in a page that is 1inch smaller in every side, when printing the pattern, we will have that extra inch to overlap the pages? am i getting it right? Thanks a lot for your great tutorial!!!!!
Can you please explain how to keep the pattern the same size. What do you mean by click one like the number 1? I don't understand why my pattern stays in a small size Help me please 😭
Hello Maroua, that’s a great question. When you place the pattern onto the temple just left-click one to place it. Would you tell me what is the size of the pattern and what is the format for example jpeg, pdf etc.

how do you print the pattern into this jpg image ?? I print to dxf or mdl then I convert to pdf by an online converter , But later I find problems with the size ,
Hi Pattern Making tech, that is a very good question. I wonder if you can provide a little more details on what program you print the pattern from as well as what printer did you use? For example, I exported the pattern from "clo3d software" as a png/adobe pdf file. Then, I brought that pattern into "Adobe illustrator," and place the patterns onto an adobe pdf template which is in us-letter pattern size. Finally, I use a home printer to print the pattern. Thanks, Rose.
@@EncoderFashion I exported the pattern from "Modaris and Gerber software" as a DXF and MDL files ; I really would like to do PDF designs, but I'm having a problem with the measurements
With the sizing is a little tricky. However, have you tried to bring the patterns into Adobe illustrator? This is how I did it. I first created the templates. For example, us-letter, A4, A3 paper sized etc, then I just place the patterns on the template after that I export it as a pdf format which customers can print the the pattern from their home printers. I hope this helps. Please, let me know if you have more questions, love it 👍happy designing🌹
@@EncoderFashion I made my pattern in illustrator, and I have saved it as a PDF. When I print it, it comes out one inch larger or 2.5 cm larger. I found another video where it said to make the artboard 8x11 inches and when I print that out there is only 1 millimeter difference, but then they don’t line up (the papers) but that’s the closest I have gotten for the real size. So I think I will stick with that. I’m working with adobe illustrator on my iPad so the setting is different. I don’t know if that’s the reason or if it is my printer that’s the problem.
Hi Simple Life, yes you can use for business, but you can’t resell “the template as is.” I hope this helps clarify your questions, please let me know if you have more questions? Love it.
