Hey Jeff, I figured I would share my trucking simulator story with you. It's quite long... So buckle up 😆 (I think it is worth the read) My father (64 y/o) and I (21 y/o) run a small trucking company in Nova Scotia Canada, and I just purchased this game for my PC. Boy, don't I wish trucking in the real world was this easy, but in reality it is an extremely hard life filled with ups, downs, and all arounds... With very small margins and extremely high costs (we do about 1m in sales anually and we just barely get by) it is not easy. Trucking has done a lot for me - growing up it was all I knew, they were in my blood from a very young age. Quite frankly, I believe that trucking is one of the most fascinating industries in the world. Where would we be without the trucking industry for just one week? Throughout my life, it has taught me a lot. But above all, trucking has made my father and I best friends. growing up he was rarely around - as he would be working 7 days a week trying to keep a roof over our heads and make everything look like it was fine - but it was far from. When I was born he was running one of the most successful family owned trucking company in eastern Canada, he had it all. Until one day, two of his higher up employees decided to leave to start their own company and cut all of his rates and presented those rates to all of his customers - he lost everything and had to sell to a large trucking company you may know or have seen, Armour Transport. He hit rock bottom and had the government coming after him for over a million dollars (year 2005) - but he had nothing left. We almost lost it all. Our house, cars, my parents marriage almost collapsed, it was a tough time. But he did the unthinkable and found a loop hole in his non compete Claus with the company he sold to which made him able to start up another company (ARJ Logistics) and only do local transportation (the length of the non compete was 10 years) and he ran this company himself for the last 16 years out of pocket, with no money. All he was left with were a few trucks that he was able to keep through it all and found a way to, as we say, "keep on trucking". All by himself, slowly he established a small customer base. Between cold winters where he would work through snowstorms, sickness, paychecks for himself that he couldn't even cash because there was nothing in the business account, etc... On top of all of that - there was no heat in the building he was renting because it was an abandoned trucking building from the 70s as that was all he could afford. Somehow, he was able to push through it all. Thanks to all of the hardwork, sleepless nights, tears and dedication, today we are still here! We made it all the way through with out a single bank loan, new truck, or any help, just the power of hard work, sacrifices and most of all - Family. We are far from out of the woods, but we now have 5 full size sleeper semis (one of which being an 05 Peterbilt 379 long nose as seen in my profile picture) 4 - 5 ton straight trucks and 10 employees. I am so proud of what he has been able to accomplish. With all of that being said... The craziest part about it all, he's never even driven a semi truck! He has run the business with his knowledge of the industry. But, it has always been a dream of his to get his license and hit the open road. Being 64, there is no way he can get it now... So that dream is over - but this game has given him a really small taste again. He sits and watches me play it after work, asking me how to do things in the game and I'm slowly teaching him how to figure it out for himself so that he can play it as well. I plan to buy the whole steering wheel setup with pedals, just so that he can get that small taste of what it would be like if he had of gotten his license. He absolutely loves it. He's the most incredible man in the world, and I really hope I can make this company successful and one day get my license and travel all over with him by my side. But for now, this game and work 7 days a week is the next best thing... Thank you so much for the awesome content. I figured I would share a nice long winded story to add to your cup of coffee on this great Friday morning! Kindest Regards, Ashton, ARJ Logistics
That was an awesome story. My dad was a truckdriver as well but had to give his business and trucks up due to him having kidney disease and cancer. It broke his heart I know that. That's why I subscribed to Jeff because my ULTIMATE DREAM is to upgrade my computer that I have now and buy this game. First I want to be able to drive from Cali to Maine. Like I want everything. Anyways I enjoyed the read and if you can get thru all of that you can get thru it all. Keep on trucking. Peace and grand wishes to you, your dad, and family..CHEERS
I live in New-Brunswick and I see the ARJ logistics truck around town, I also live 2 streets away from the guy who owns Armour Transport, it’s a small world.
Sitting in my truck right now watching this. I think it’s awesome that you guys actually enjoy these type of games. Because I can vouch for how awesome it actually is in real life.
Yes on the newer trucks the brake lights come on with the exhaust brake. Any questions about trucking feel free to ask. Ive been driving semis for 11 years now. Keep up the great content guys!
@@ethanjohnson9156 the split hi low, it's pretty much the same on any trans over 5 speeds, basically in order to get into a higher range meaning 5th or 6th depending on the trans itself you flip the range selector up then move the shifter back to a lower gear position and shift thru the gears a second time, if ots a 13 or 18, then you have a thumb operated splitter to split the top side of the gears to give you the extra gear count and ease of pulling power
Love the ATS Multiplayer....looks so cool.....Cascadia is one good looking truck!!! Hope Alex's mum gets well soon and everything goes well....wishing him and his family all the best xxx
My favorite thing is to boot up Jeff's ATS videos, and get my own ATS trip going. I think we have all felt lonely during the pandemic; so it feels like I'm playing with my old pals. So, Jeff; thanks for being a friend.
Man, I really hope they allow for custom servers with mods and such, having custom trucks and trailers, real companies, JazzyCat's traffic would be incredible! Even just workshop mods support would be great.
Real trucker here. The cascadia does not put on the brake lights with the retarder. The only one that does that I've drove is the newer Peterbilts. Also mic check on the cb would be "breaker one nine for a radio check." And if you sounded alright I'd say something like "check is in the mail driver." Hope this helps with your RP in the future!
Heads up: Newer truck can have the brake lights come on with the jake, feature can be turned on and off in the trucks ecm. We don’t say “over”. And the term “Steering wheel holder” is an insult that we sling at those who are not what we consider to be a real truck driver. Not criticizing, just informing. Love the show!
This is what I've been waiting for! A Multiplayer with A.I. traffic. TMP is alright but (in my opinion) would make it cool would be if there was A.I. traffic as well, and yes i know it was made by modders. But glad to see SCS finally coming with an official Multiplayer. They waited long enough,
I've been getting into these streams lately and they're awesome and relaxing! Are you planning on doing some more theHunter Call of the Wild or some Stormworks anytime soon, Jeff?
On that last docking area. If you played ets you would have made it because here in europe we drive coe ( cab over engine) . Yes i'm a trucker in the Netherlands. And it's still awesome to do,😁👌
Yeah on my 2020 cascadia when you use the engine/Jake the tail lights don’t come on but on the KW T680 they do. Also to say thank you with the trailer lights on the real truck the right multi switch on steering wheel the top button is the button, park lights would have to be on for it to be seen usually during the day I use my hazards
Just so you know Jake brakes are loud asf, a lot of towns and city’s prohibit you from using them for that reason. So yes you should be able to hear them, I can hear them from the highway a mile from me.
Jeff, you asked if 18 wheelers' brake lights come on when the engine brakes engage. Some do. I drive a 2017 KW T680, and mine light up when my engine brakes engage. And it's funny to listen to the "smart" truckers assume I'm riding my brakes, saying that I'll burn my brakes up. I just laugh and keep on trucking.

As a trucker, some trucks have the brake lights actived when using the jake brake but most trucks don't
As long as you’re not one of the truckers that go “go drive a real truck “

Okay, with a.i. traffic, I might just give multiplayer another try.
my exact thoughts
This is not TMP just fyi, it is SCSs own MP and you will have to opt into the beta via steam with code provided on the SCSs forum post.
@@DarKKlusteR where the fourm
I hope they make ai actually realistic. like for example MERGE!! don't slow to 5 mph for lane changing. ect ect
AI traffic changes the whole damn thing, thats extra cool not to be alone.

It's so neat watching u drive trucks while in my sleeper.....I think I'm obsessed. I wanna get a setup like yours so I can practice backing
Totally agree Jeff with the taking loads separately instead of driving through each other.
Yall kickin butt and all that trucking brings back so many memories of when I was a youngin
Watching this in my 2021 cascadia that had 32 miles on it this morning. Interior is pretty accurate.

Me being a OTR Truck driver, Yes newer trailers brake lights work with the jakes & Yes California 55 mph is ridiculous.
Newer trucks do activate the brake lights under jakes. You can have it programmed that way. Also some jakes cut out at 30mph. Know from my cascadia.
Looks so dam kool..here im still playing the demo..geese
Missing side skirt yeah that’s normal for swift drivers. Also we need a marker light button and and light flash button for signaling other drivers.
Amt us missing one thing... A 1977 Pontiac firebird in black with a gold Fireturkey on the hood and gold pinstripes !
Hey guys, some trucks do, off the top of my head a kw t680 will kick on the break lights with the use of the engine brake

Just an fyi when we use Jake breaks they do put on the break lights irl
Lol the load pick up lol , should have tried a 90 degree spin and set up on sight side , I deal with that all the time in RL driving .
When jake brakes are on the brakes lights does come on in real trucks. Just letting you know Jeff
Awesome concept!
Your brake light does actually come on when you use your Jake brake, with newer trucks. Older ones don’t or have a kill switch. Source: am a driver 😂

That's California's "General Speed Law" - on back roads like that with no posted speed limit, the default speed limit is legally 55mph, unless a police officer can argue in court that your speed was unsafe for the conditions.
That said, I don't think he'd have much trouble making that argument with respect to a truck hauling a 53ft trailer. But within the limitations of the game engine it's realistic enough for it to show as 55.
My criticism of that road though is that given how unfinished it was, it's pretty unrealistic for it to have that much traffic on it. If it only had very sparse traffic then that road would be more believable.
Yea I can see it now. American Truck Simulator law enforcement edition! Yea!!
That's awesome wish my Cascadia did 75-80 damn thing is governed at 65 on the pedal 68 on the cruise.......
if you are doing external contracts for WoT, it will limit you but normal jobs no unless you have the speed limiter turned on
