Mistake #4 fragrances is my biggest annoyance at tastings. It's disrespectful, it is the first thing I say when I bring people along who don't taste as often, make sure you don't wear (heavy) perfume. The other ones I can manage.
Yes, and it is interesting as well, that often times it will be done by professionals as well. 🤷♀️
Gosh, I'm so obsessed with your dog. He knows he is loved!
All excellent points Agnes and exactly why I've never attended a wine tasting. My wine journey is 40 years long, entirely self educated and personal. In my early days there were no wine tastings in my neighbourhood and today I'm so confident in my own wine perceptions I don't want to be a snob in front of other less experienced drinkers. Enjoying wine shouldn't be snobbish of course.
I used to attend whisky tastings but that was largely to enjoy the comradery of other drinkers. Whisky tastings are far more relaxed (I think) than wine tastings. Getting mildly tipsy is part of the enjoyment and intended because you are far more likely to buy a bottle later on.
I have never been to a Whisky tasting (not my type of drink), but I do enjoy wine tastings a lot, especially of there is an interesting keynote speaker. 🍷
@@NoSediment A good speaker is absolutely necessary. I love classical music and the comparison would be a conductor directing the event. I would go to an event if it was very focused - one producer or a regional pocket, etc. It's such a shame that most wine and whisky types don't mix. I'm one of them and I only know a few of us. The nose and palate of whisky is extraordinarily large; much more so than wine, so when it's applied to wine it's unusually accurate. I love both beverages equally.
I loved this video. A nice, gentle touch in laying down some guidelines without feeling too exclusive or judgemental. Helpful tips before I head to my first vineyard tastings in France.
Thank You, happy You enjoyed the video. 🙏🏻
I obviously go to different wine tastings than the pros as a consumer and by far the #1 most annoying thing is a wine merchant trying to push a particular bottle on the audience that is not resonating with his guests.
Well, some (maybe even majority) of tastings are organised in order to sell. In many cases, they do not want to sell simply whichever bottle You like the best, but specific label. It is important to simply understand that and enjoy the tasting’ ☺️
In my local shop we had a social tasting and some guys in their young twenties came wearing a ton of fragrance…. They were not allowed to enter 😂…. I really get annoyed when people stink of perfume……
Wow, that is impressive. Usually, we only talk about it, bet there is no real action, this sounds kinda cool. 💯
At the Rudd estate in Napa they used wool they sheered on the property for a pallet cleanse I thought that was great
Maybe the Score attached to many wines encourages the snobbery, who knows? Agree on moving out of the way after you get your sample
Interesting thing is, that many wines proliferate so arrogantly talk about are not scored by professionals, and many more are rarely ever scored blind. 🫣🫣🫣
Very interesting video - especially about the flowers and scents like perfume, etc. And really like your dog in these videos.
My dog likes to be in the videos as well. He knows he is the brightest star! 😅
Amen. Don’t be a pompous a##. Wine brings this out in, particularly in experienced amateurs. Enjoy the wines you enjoy but let others appreciate their choices.
I absolutely agree with You. 🙏🏻
Your content is fun and informative.
Thank You, we really try to keep it up that way. 🍾
Really good video. Loved the down to earth justification for each of the “don’ts.” Common sense, consideration, and good manners apply to wine tastings just as they should to any public activity. Well done.
Thank You’ 🍾🍾🍾 Cheers! 🥂
The point about hijacking spittoons and that of being loud when swishing the wine in the mouth are those who annoy me the most 😅 I really can't stand these type of people
Hahaha, yeah, they can become quite annoying, that is true. 🫣
fantastic video as always! out of these, using the perfume is the one that affected me the most😢
Yeah, this seems to be the one most often done ☹️
Thank you for the video, useful suggestions.
There's only two things that I don't like about tastings, trying (not fully enjoying) great big wines that are not being decanted and...the long lines 😊
I don’t mind wine being served not decanted, and I actually made a video on this topic. The long lines - should have mentioned that. ☹️😬😅
Nice topic! I regularly attend some informal wine tastings, and some professionals there use perfume. I still think it's not okay as the rest may be taking it seriously. Anyway, I've got the spittoon from 2:48! I thought it was ugly when I bought it, but lately I'm feeling better about it. Apparently they designed it to minimise splashing and smell from coming out.
I thought it was quite sophisticated 🫣😅😂😂
I thought your video was already great, but it got even better when a vizsla made its way in it : ) I just couldn't help but laugh out loud at 4:34 ; made me think so much of my own vizsla girl's absolutely horrendous farts 😆
Our Vizsla is very polite and farts rarely. But he likes to be under the spotlight and always tries to force himself on camera. 😅😂😂
@@NoSediment They are such divas indeed : ) I always have to be careful with mine, not to open a too good bottle when she's around, otherwise all my wines smell the same ; )
I've attended a few tastings where people are socializing with each other (not between attendee and the person pouring the wine) and treating the tasting like they are at a bar happy hour, all while others are waiting in line, so those waiting have to eventually nudge their way in to make space to put a glass down or reach out asking for a sample pour. As someone who has tasted and done pouring at shows (not for wine), please and especially thank you at the end of the tasting to the presenter or rep go a long way, sometimes that doesn't happen.
Thank You for additions here on the list. You are absolutely correct. 🙏🏻
Great reminders. Can we send this over to all the wineries for their staff too? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at a venue and the servers/ pourers have layers of strong perfume or, what may be worse, strong personal scents. And make sure to rinse your glass wear in something other than chlorine 🤢.
I think this is another important point - it should be explained by the management of the winery. But I am very lucky, as I have never encountered with this situation during the winery visit. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Es tevi ļoti cienu ❤❤ Agnese 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I tried to find unscented shampoo ,flavorless toothpaste for your fourth point. Only had success with finding unscented deodorant. I don’t know if you them in Latvia…I don’t go to Starbucks anymore and prefer local coffee shops. I get people like consistency but go support small shops that provide quality or quantity.
Also very, very difficult to find. Which is strange actually, because many of these artificial aromatic components can cause allergic reactions. But sweet smelling body lotion sells. 🤷♀️
1:15 she did not agree🤣
My face is too expressive, I could never play Poker successfully. 🤦♀️
Gi-gichi-inenimin❤ Gaaniika Giga-booni-zaagi'isinoon Agnese.❤ Gi-gichi-gikendaan owe Zhoominaaboo 🍷.
How about the glass lickers? They're in my top 2. 🤮
WHAT? Say that again.. who licks wine glasses? 🥹
Seeing shaking sparkling wines!
Who does that? In the bottle?
@@NoSediment , I mean when people twirl sparklings in the glass.
@cydonshred it is their wine, they can do whatever they want. I always swirl sparkling wine (not aggressively) there is nothing wrong with it. 🤷♀️
@@NoSediment I wrote this observation because in italian sommellerie (I did first level course with Fisar) is usually discouraged from swirling sparklings in order to preserve perlage.
SWEETIE ❤❤❤❤❤
Your dog 😅🤣
He is the best! 🐕
I like the dog
I love my dog! 🐕🙏🏻
Do not wear perfume but please ... take a shower.
It is funny that we need to give this advice. 😅😬
