Stray/feral cats unfortunately die quite often from other predators, vehicles, and diseases.
(Always check your cars, trucks, and farm vehicles for cats trying to stay warm if you're in a cold area!)
We can only hope that somehow Buddy found a new home somewhere else, wishful thinking I know but I hate thinking of the poor guy in pain, he was a sweet boy.
I hope this new kitten will be around longer and hopefully it won't disappear without coming back.

I've never thought about what causes rain smell, that's really interesting.
So I assume that when the rain falls it disturbs the dry soil and causes it to release aerosols, probably bacteria based but could be something else, and I'm guessing humans can detect it in tiny quantities because water is important for survival.

Why not make dry my mixes that are pre-portioned for convenient final “wet” volume? For example weight out enough for 100L final volume then divide it into 10 and store dry. Then if you need to make a 10L solution you just add one bag or jar of the dry to the wet. Do you think there’s any issues storing all the additives together dry? The advantage is theres less to get wrong, no measuring, no chance of crystalizing, less shelf space, lite weight… seems like all good things

is SiO2 really necessary for any algae? if you're growing culture and passing media through glass, wouldn't they have access to needed amount anyways?
