One thing that always surprised me about this car is how modern it looks. If you made some changes to the body, it wouldn't look too out of place today.
I had the chance to see this car in the Stuttgart museum and it was just incredible. I can’t express how it felt, Ive only ever seen that car in video, print and plastic model. There it was and it was like nothing else mattered or existed, unreal the presence this car has, you can’t help but stare at it. Thank you Porsche, this and the 917, 935, 936 are my favorites of all time
Revan Skywalker Yes it’s massive compared to the usual 911’s. Very long, low and wide. You can see it’s a hand built car. Inside it’s rough and all business. Outside it’s very purposeful bodywork can be studied and you can see what Singer was thinking. I loved the paint job, the quality of the stripes is excellent. I can go on and on... go see it!
I can totally relate. I had a similar experience at the Stuttgart Museum before a factory tour in 2003, all that history & engineering/design sitting right in front of me. It was magical being there.
Loved that game. There are modern racing sims that have this car, Project Cars 2 has a couple versions, I think this and the '81, and some of the other group 5 cars, capri, BMW 320 (think)
Saw this at Rennsport Reunion a few years ago. Porsche brings all the original race cars out - frickin amazing. Norbert Singer, Hans Metzger, jovial Jochen Mass. Wow. 🏁🇩🇪
4:43 talking finishes, engine is finally heard undisturbed, and the automatic subtitles say [music]... i guess there IS artifical intelligence after all.
Saw it at Le Mans in '78.'.. Lots of flame on the overruns as with all the 935s....very spectacular at night!....Some favorite memories from that period.... I loved the long tail Renaults as well.
Stunning car. I particularly liked the bit "it was very hard to run the car very much, because our car was so much better than our customer cars" yes, fantastic!
I really miss the Group 5/6 era. It was my introduction to sports car racing in 1980 at the Silverstone 6 hours and I recall it like it was yesterday. Such a mix and match of different cars all trying to keep up with the 935 K3's and the odd prototype with more pace but often less reliability together with some older 908/910's for show and if lucky a 936. Sadly the only time I got to see a 936 was for a race start and that was it. Jochen binned it into the catch fencing at Woodcote at the end of lap one and that was it. I have never forgiven you Jochen :)
By far one of the greatest and most beautiful race cars ever made. This thing really melts my heart every time I look at it. Hats off to Porsche for making such an incredible machine.
So many magnificent cars, back in the days... The 935 Moby Dick was my favorite race car when I was young, it brings back so many fond memories of Endurance Racing! Thanks for this!
I was at that race at Silverstone in 78. First time ever been was hooked. Jack icyx also drove that car , that day. And Ronnie Peterson was driving a MK 3 BMW. Wonderful day.
It's a weird sensation.. I have so many nostalgic feelings towards this car because of the old Need For Speed: Porsche 2000. As a kid, I searched so hard to find a model of this so I could look at it and touch it. Now, I am 23 years old and still in absolute love with it. Watching videos like this makes my heart pound like crazy.. Heavy breathing.. No car has ever done anything like that to me. The Moby Dick is the one and only. In my mind, the most beautiful creation in the world. Hopefully I can meet this car one day. I'll remember to bring a chair to sit on, so I can comfortably stare at it for hours. Am I crazy..? Maybe.. But what an amazing thing..
Back in 1979, as a Porsche obsessed teenager I bought this car as model kit by Tamiya. It was the most enjoyable build I ever did. The car just looked amazing, the design was simply off the chart. A real pity it never raced more than 3 time and developed further.
Truly one of the greatest era's for Motorsport, back when it took heaps of skill and balls the size of water melons to step in to cars like these and race them on tracks like spa and le mans 🙌🏻
Quite often, cars meant for Le Mans are RHD because the pit garages are on that side (it also helps balance the weight laterally for that circuit as it's mostly right-hand corners).
After driving one in GRID(racing game on Steam), I had to learn more, even in the game this car is crazy special the way it can do what it does is nuts! it feels like there's literally no end to it power, and the cars are based off the real thing so, I can't resist, gotta know more.
I drooled over every magazine article I could find about this car as a kid and even had a few of its specs committed to memory (hp, weight, top speed at LeMans). But I'm embarrassed to admit I knew nothing about it having WATER COOLED HEADS!!! I never heard of a Porsche flat six with such a feature. Now I wonder if I would have discovered it back in 1985 if I had bought the Tamiya 1:12 short tail model of this instead of the Jagermeister 934 RSR Turbo?
I want to say that era is completely gone but take a look at the the new Corvette. Mid rear engine those types of radical changes is what I love and just for the name of racing.
It's weird, once you've spent a few hours in the car, and learned where it's limits are, you realize the car was telling from the start "here's what I can do, if you go beyond that, I can't be held responsible for your safety" ... it's the strangest thing, it really is counter intuitive to have that weight back there, but also the wealth of downforce with very precise limits to it, I suppose anyone in real life driving something that special could do amazing things, it's a real collaborative effort between machine and man.
Remember getting the new compaq presario with windows xp and with it was nfs Porsche unleashed. Winning the 550a spyder, 935 Moby dick, and finally the gt1 leman racer .
Beautiful car,an all time classic but why anyone would want to be driving this priceless classic around a freezing cold track in the bleak mid winter British weather is beyond me,it's an endurance test for the spectators as well!😀
Always has always will be my ultimate favourite car a man who owns a company called bisimoto has an amazing electric one unbelievable power what a car what a history can't beat the style 💯👍
In 1978 most young men lusted after Farrah Fawcett. I however lusted after this car. As a 20 year old, both would have been too expensive and difficult for me to drive.
800 horsepower+ from a flat six, wow, still very impressive to this day. One of the best looking Porsche's ever imo.
THE best looking ever......and driven here by the nicest driver since Bruce McLaren was killed.
As an oldy,i can remember an driver of this rocket did complain to an engineer, he had wheelspin in the 4 gear.
Dear old Jochen Mass... I’ve always held him in extremely high regard. Under appreciated driver.
He is one of the survivors. The massively fast Porsche sportscars claimed the lives of many name drivers in that era.
Race cars of this era just look so damn good...
835 hp in 1978 out of a flat six......Unreal!!!
What a BEAUTY...
Freaking monster 💪
Lol.. but youre right
Indeed, was ahead of the time.
@Raylan Zakai OK but they would you do that
One thing that always surprised me about this car is how modern it looks. If you made some changes to the body, it wouldn't look too out of place today.
And now Porsche are bringing it back - IMO sympathetically modernised, too. Very rare for that to happen. Bravo Porsche!
C345 OFR it’s nice but it’s just a gt2 rs with Body work selling for 1.5 mil....
@@kostistau and the original Moby dick is just a 911 with body work too.....so what's your point??......................
@@kostistau no, it isnt, it has full new technic
It's out now. Proper car. Love Porsche
@@bainyt727 yes it is. It is just a gt2rs with diff bodywork and interior changes to make it look more racecar like. Lmaoooooooo
I had the chance to see this car in the Stuttgart museum and it was just incredible. I can’t express how it felt, Ive only ever seen that car in video, print and plastic model. There it was and it was like nothing else mattered or existed, unreal the presence this car has, you can’t help but stare at it.
Thank you Porsche, this and the 917, 935, 936 are my favorites of all time
Thats awesome!! Was it as long and wide as it looked like in the photo?? How much bigger is it than the normal 930 of the time??
Revan Skywalker
Yes it’s massive compared to the usual 911’s. Very long, low and wide. You can see it’s a hand built car. Inside it’s rough and all business. Brings back the 'NFS: Porsche Unleashed' days.
Loved that game. There are modern racing sims that have this car, Project Cars 2 has a couple versions, I think this and the '81, and some of the other group 5 cars, capri, BMW 320 (think)
You can get this car in Forza 7 but it has the MOMO livery.

I agree.. The nostalgia connected to this car, because of that game, is absolutely immense. I love it
Oh yes
Saw this at Rennsport Reunion a few years ago. Porsche brings all the original race cars out - frickin amazing. Norbert Singer, Hans Metzger, jovial Jochen Mass. Wow. 🏁🇩🇪
Undoubtedly one of the best Porsche race cars ever.
Absolutely and that is some rarified air.
It's a brave man that takes one of these round a UK circuit in the middle of winter.
it was probably summer!
I just tried it in assetto corsa. It is a very fast greasy pig
Like weather at the Nürburgring. 😉
Had the pleasure of seeing this race at the Silverstone 6hrs in 1978. Of course, it won by a considerable margin.
4:43 talking finishes, engine is finally heard undisturbed, and the automatic subtitles say [music]... i guess there IS artifical intelligence after all.
This comment is horrifically underrated
@@drewdixon8647 Gee.. thanks! It is a nice engine sound, really.
Feel SO fortunate to have met Mr Singer, when I worked for Porsche. Incredible race car, competing at a time, never to be repeated.JTOrlando, Fl
Read in an old sportscar magazine that did 378 km/h easy back in the day! Monstrous yet exquisitely one of a kind. ❤️
Saw it at Le Mans in '78.'.. Lots of flame on the overruns as with all the 935s....very spectacular at night!....Some favorite memories from that period.... I loved the long tail Renaults as well.
That group five Lancia looked awesome too!😎
Additional thanks for Jochen Mass nanointerview
Stunning car. I particularly liked the bit "it was very hard to run the car very much, because our car was so much better than our customer cars" yes, fantastic!
Jochen Mass is a real gentleman and so is the car. What a lovely match.
ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES PILOTOS QUE PUEDE SUBIR PODIO JUNTO A BELLOF, SENNA, ICXS ETC
Totally agree.

What a pure racing shape! And I love those red wheels!
It´s a magnificent "piece of art" in the automotive world...
So many magnificent cars, back in the days... The 935 Moby Dick was my favorite race car when I was young, it brings back so many fond memories of Endurance Racing! Thanks for this!
I love driving this car in Assetto Corsa. Closest I'll ever get to the real thing 🤷♂️

70s era race cars
Nothing like them they are just the best ever 😍😍👍👍
The most recognised GT car in 70S. Legend, beautiful beast
Beautiful video. Please, we need more of them! - from the states
What a phakking killer race car. I love to see and hear it. I visited the Zuffenhausen Porsche museum just to meet this beauty
One of the best race cars ever made (Moby Dick!)

I'm feeling the same, and for the same reason: Need for Speed Porsche 💓
The fastest in Need For Speed Porsche
Incredible car even by todays standards and a real gentleman to boot.
Cars revving in the background is borderline art

Nothing tops those crazy 60's and 70's cars esp. icw that epic Martini stickering.
I still have that car on a poster in my garage
Thank you for sharing. Good to know the real story. . The cars stats hold up pretty well compared to 2020 technology. Outstanding!
Truly one of the greatest era's for Motorsport, back when it took heaps of skill and balls the size of water melons to step in to cars like these and race them on tracks like spa and le mans 🙌🏻
GR8 car, GR8 driver & fabulous combination! Many thanx 👍
Fabulous. Thank you for bringing back such fond memories...
Right hand drive.. There has to be a story about that

For drivers changes at le man's when entering the pits
Too cool! Cheers for the answer, knew there had to be a reason.
lemans...
Because that's the side of the car,the steering wheel should be in every car.

The 935K was a beast too!😳😳😎
Half way through watching this, I found myself shaking up a martini... 🍸
I like how the aero bodyworks looks so modern, and i think it get some minor or similarities with WTAC time attack porsche 968,
The bodywork looks so crazy.
What awesome looking race car ,Still looks awesome today
That’s a sexy car just like the 917
I want to say that era is completely gone but take a look at the the new Corvette. Mid rear engine those types of radical changes is what I love and just for the name of racing.
Incredible car. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, excellent production and narration!
Porsche still breaking records
I built the 1/12 model kit by Tamiya of this Car, bit like building the real thing but in miniature, what a wild wonderful looking Car !😳

Hey,is that autobot"JAZZ"he look similar to Porsche 911 transformers G1 racing car
Love Goodwood so much history
Imagine a GTE car fighting LMP1 cars for the overall Victory... thats what this is.
WATER COOLED AND AIR COOLD PORCHE 935 1978 848 HP
The fact this thing makes almost 850hp and weights almost 2200 pounds is terrifying and it’s a face car from the 70s

This car looks intimidating.
1:21 that wrench omg!!
I would love to see this monster at full chat!!!!
There is a Swedish built Baby Mobydick and won on Le Mans with Stanley Dickens etc
Im 49. I think this was the car (back then) that made me like 911's. I have a 996 series now : )
What a machine...Love me sum Porsche race cars!
Beautiful racer
This car is definitely on my top 10 most beautiful cars of all time. I think the Ferrari 330 p4 is at the top, but this is definitely in the top 10
Those wheelssss
1:22 who saw it? what the.....🤬😢there are some extensions for torque wrenches.....
Yes, they exist, 😬😬😬😬😬
I came to find this comment or make it. Slow motion torque wrench to the fender. What a shame.

I have a 934 Replica i need to restore I wish there were more vids on them :(
Beauty in the beast.
This is the name that it deserves
The engineers created the 935 should hv the nobel prize.
> It was too good to be raced often
Darn, such a crime. Oh well, at least it's still alive and kicking.
Gorgeous Porsche!!!
So cool...I would love to get behind the wheel for a few modest laps just to experience the feel (a guy who owns a 2019 GT2 RS, WP, Mags, Guards Red).
Wow fire the audio guy lol.
Incredible car 🔥👍
O MELHOR CANAL DO UA-cam
the only porsche i wanted. The GOAT
Lancia 037
Actually the Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr.5. The 037 was only the rally car
Wow 935. Like it . 👍
Is there any footage of the Lancia and Beemers as well??
first time i notice the steering wheel is on the right
Don't know what it's supposed to sound like but it sounds a little rough on full throttle acceleration...like it's misfiring a little.
The 1978 935 has 845hp and the 2019 935 only has 690hp?? WTH
ummmmm - thats blew them AWAY Mr. Mass.....
full boost for a nice workout, i miss you
2nd best Porsche racecar ever!
Iconic Martini racing...
At 2:00:
What top speed? I cant understand what he is saying.
