My father had PTSD from fighting in the Korean War. The only time I was ever allowed to sit next to him, was when we were watching horror movies. This show was his favorite back then, as a child everything I saw on TV was real. I was terrified of ants, thanks to this episode. They'd play horror movies every Saturday night on TV, so I grew up believing that giant grasshoppers, giant ants, and giant spiders were real, so you always had to be aware of your surroundings for a good hiding place. Many sacrifice nights, terrified of sleeping, afraid of having nightmares, just to feel close to your father for the duration of a movie.

Easily one of my favorite Outer Limits episodes and sci fi episodes in general. I just rewatched this a few months ago after all these years and it still held my attention and had me on edge, maybe more, since I think I went into it assuming it wouldn't have aged well. No gore or graphics; just mood and acting. I discovered the Outer Limits just a few years after Twilight Zone, but by then I had already seen most of TW repeatedly, so it was awesome to find basically its cousin with so many fresh shows. Even better, as a sci fi buff, with none of the episodes being magic themed. Even OL's comics from Dell/Gold Key were suspenseful and fun. And it was nice to see "Ivan"/"Ducky" play leads in favorite episodes from both the original run and the 80s (90s?) run.

When _Outer Limits_ first hit the ariwaves I was maybe 5 or 6 y/o, and my two older brothers got to watch it but my parents wouldn't let me -- which of course piqued my curiosity. It wasn't until a couple years later when "Zanit Misfits" aired as a rerun on an independent station in L.A. that I watched it in the daytime when it was just me and my mom was probably out shopping or something and my brothers were in school. It absolutely traumatized me. Up until then it was horror movies with skeletons in them that kept me up nights, but "Zanti Misfits" gave me full-on nightmares. _Outer Limits_ was 'way ahead of its time, on a par with the original _Twilight Zone;_ NOT a show suitable for young children, but back then there was no television rating system. Parents back then got the message through word of mouth, and _Outer Limits_ was one show they weren't gonna let me watch. I quickly discovered why. 60 years later it's more thought-provoking than frightening, but back then I was genuinely scarred by it.

I watch The Outer Limits back in 1963. It used to scare the living hell out of me. Especially since I was only six at the time and was living in a real bad neighborhood and my parents were not home. Imagine that for a 6-year-old. However the episode that scared me most back then was the Galaxy being. Something about that flashing alien walking down the street with everything blowing all over the place scared the hell out of me I thought it was a mummy for some reason. According to Stephen King It was the best show of its kind to ever come out. Memories not really great ones but memories nonetheless. My favorite episode was the 6th finger very thought-provoking as was the whole show. Also creepy was the spooky control voice who spoke Erie words of wisdom before the beginning of each episode. I believe his name was Vic Perrin who passed away during the eighties.

Thanks for the excellent video. I'd never seen this episode until a few years ago. Roku used to have a channel completely devoted to The Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits. 24/7 they'd have the complete run of both series playing. That's where I caught this incredible episode. Yes, by today's standards with science fiction in film and on TV, it may seem primitive - although I myself don't think so. When, in real-life, has anyone seen something morph before their very eyes? On the other hand, a scary bug, the size of a rat, climbing up your arm is easily relatable, the thought being extremely terrifying. It seems as if the science fiction TV shows, in most of the 1960s, were basically all top notch. I'm grateful that these shows are available on disc, where they can be viewed at any time. Unfortunately, Roku has removed the "Outer Limits/Twilight Zone" channel. But, at least I was able to see every single episode of both series, many many times.

I watched the Zanti Misfits and it gave me my first and only childhood nightmare. I fell asleep while watching and I dreamed the “bees” were crawling up under the blankets and came awake screaming.
I thought the Zanti looked like “Cooty” toy bugs that you could insert legs and antenna, etc., into. But after watching it again on another date I thought it was cool and I was hooked on the outer limits. I also thought the opening to the show was very cool, especially for a

I had dinosaur nightmares like this as a kid, which I remember involved hiding in a neighbor's basement, with the dinosaur being able to see me through the basement window (a.k.a Jurassic Park). But, these beasties remind me most of the spider nightmares I had, in which I'd fallen and couldn't escape them as they crawled up my leg and caused my leg vein to protrude from my skin, oddly like the nipple from older baby bottles, but throbbing (which could well have been some confused image of the bulb used in taking blood pressure measurements [think about it]).
