Looking from the outside as a lapsed Brit, I perceive the UK as an irresistible soap opera. The villains are numerous - from Lord Snooty (God's gift) to Sid Snot (outside a hotel wrapped in a flag). The goodies are in short supply. One MUST hope they are keeping their heads down and saying nowt. The scriptwriters have genius in their fingertips. Awful but a must-watch 😭🤔😂.
I wonder if Mrs May would have handled COVID better. I have no love for her and her premiership was dominated by trying to stitch Brexit together while managing a dysfunctional party. But I can't help but think that she would have handled it much better
I am pretty sure she would have. Regardless of any other issues I may have with her, her attention to detail would have been very welcome. This is one of the problems with this lot of Tories - ability isn’t what they value. All about supporting Brexit. A lot of talent in the party was wasted.
Doesn't the security services vet political candidates for suitability anymore? Or is the bar so low this is the calibre of people now being allowed to get into politics now.
Dolly Parton has no problem finding places to invest her money for all our benefit, so why do these successful business people have so much difficulty.
Who is surprised about the chaos in the government during the pandemic? Just looking at BoJo standing at the lectern you could see the panic in his eyes.

Bangladesh went mental when they beat England the other day in a cricket one day match. The whole country went loopy on the streets and in their rickshaws.
Rory, may I make just one suggestion. As with a five-year-old when you call him a bad boy, that is not productive. What he has DONE is bad, his actions. If you say, he’s a bad man, isn’t that likely to divide the country even more?
The reason people don't like to talk about poverty is because they feel they can't do anything about it. Rory is intensely interested in poverty because he believes strongly there is a way to eradicate it. If we want to reintroduce it back into public discourse, we need to convince the public that poverty has a solution within reach.
Really ,funny how he backed austerity that plunged the country into poverty that continues today. you need to check out his voting record ,he is a tory and not a nice one

I just hope he spares us any outrage at pmq's...though it's also likely that Hoyle would shut starmer criticism down citing it's not leader of the opposition's question time...that's really cozy too.
Can some generous lawyer not take up Sue Gray’s case against Rees-Mogg and Dorries for defamation of character? Surely the accusations they make are a direct slight on her character, which are clearly untrue….They both said so originally!
How does Rory go from unapologetically reiterating his claim that lockdown didn't go far enough or start fast enough, directly to recounting the ways in which the lockdowns we did suffer pushed tens of millions of our fellow human beings into what is essentially an economic black hole, without the faintest trace of shame? Those who respond to a novel terror with panic and demand unsustainable solutions to ephemeral problems, without thought of the inescapable ruin that others will suffer as a result, should not speak with the surety of the blameless.
Well if the lockdowns were applied sooner they would have been shorter. Also the financial support could still have been better designed even with lockdowns still being applied.
Spot on. The problem with almost all politicians like Rory/Campbell is they focus almost exclusively on the short term. This podcast would be so much better if they took more time for each issue. It was laughable for Rory to protest so much for lockdowns/restrictions but then to show how many millions, especially in poorer countries are later pushed into absolute poverty because of it. On most issues you have a small ideological rant from Campbell and a meek counter from Rory. We can tell you guys have a friendship which is great but lets have a proper debate between you, this podcast could offer so much more.
@@belindathorne9784 To your first point, unlikely; the most aggressive proponents of lockdowns originally promised two to four weeks, but kept finding excuses to extend them. No amount of stimulation of demand will prevent economic contraction if supply is artificially constrained, and have you ever heard of a downturn that only effected the well off while passing over the most vulnerable?
Alistair Campbell - one of the founding fathers of nastiness and bitternes in politics. Remember your link to the illegal war in Iraq 20 years ago? How many thousands died due to that Alistair? You don't do shame and humility, though.

The weird thing about Begun is how she now dresses very Western. Is this due to her wanting to move away from that extreme Islamic way of life, or due to a desire to manipulate the media.
I don't like Beggum but of course she should be returned to the UK, there is no alternative. Or there wouldn't have been if we had any decent characters left in the Tory party. If she committed crimes then prosecute her in a British court. To think some fly by night politician can decide you are no longer British when you are literally born and bred is laughable.

Malawi's population has quadrupled in the last fifty years. That is impossible to ensure against poverty. That is the issue in sub-Saharan Africa. Massive population growth without a plan to deal with it. Sorry, but little pity for these people when they wanted little contact with "colonial" powers then corruption is now rife. They wanted power in the hands of the few.

Disappointing that Rory doesn't now realise lockdowns were wrong. And earlier lockdown wouldn't have made any positive difference. We're in this pickle because of lockdowns.
He predicated in this podcast that he believed early lockdowns (after the initial catastrophe in Italy in early 2020) were required to protect both the elderly and the NHS. You either have your own agenda or lack the capacity to listen.
@@simonkapadia7582 I ended up in hospital twice this winter with bronchitis then a quincy.
