Question... would it still work if the ladder hatches blocked the door as an airlock? so rotate the hatches to cover the doors.

Hatches suck for heli. As soon as they are blown out you are screwed. It’s a cool concept but it does poorly in action...maybe that’s why a fight with heli from this base isn’t included in the video.
