    Just wanted to let everyone know we now cut two access holes in the back of the bumper which is part of the winch plate to make it easier to get at the winch bolts. We are always looking for ways to improve our products. Congrats on another great video Tim!

    For the 4ga cable connections, just use solder and flux. Heat up the copper with a torch and feed it solder until 3/4 full- then dip flux covered cable in.

    Great video. Love your XJ. I have the same exact rig (white 98 2dr) though mine still has a bit of growing compared to yours. But yours is exactly what mine aspires to be. Clean and tall and 100% trail ready daily driver. Well done! Would love to see a full rundown on your rig - specs and all. That would be a great video.
    One note on your install today - whenever possible, you want to put a backup wrench on electrical studs when tightening (or even loosening) because if that post starts to spin, the soldered connections inside could break. Learned this lesson while installing starters on aircraft back when I was a young A&P.
    Great work as usual!

    Good vid. Quick tip: when I label wires, I wrap the tape all the way around, with a little bit sticking up on each end to make a "flag", the tape sticks to itself a lot better than the wires so there is much less chance of it falling off.
    *ah I see you did exactly that later in the vid, nm.

    for electrical connections that will likely see alot of moisture, it is recommended you use a grease to prevent corrosion. Ideally you want NO-OX grease (can get it from an electrical supply store) you can also use dielectric grease if you can't find NO-OX

    Great job on your project 👍 I bought a hydraulic crimper from Harbor Freight on sale and a 20% coupon and drilled and tapped the back of it and attached a 3/16 piece of plate steel that allows me to hold it in a vise while I crimp my wire ends.
    A little do-it-yourself di-electric grease under you terminal boots will help prevent corrosion, but not a necessity.
    What's your living hood ornament's name?

  • @TheDIYnot

    Tim, great vid. I have not worked with winches yet, but are you supposed to leave the motor running? If so, upgrading the entire wire system to include the grounds, alternator, and starter would be best. You would also want to fuse everything, as any cut to the sheathing of non-fused wire around metal could start a fire. One more last thing, wire work is very important. You want to make sure your wires are routed correctly and are secured firmly. From what I saw you did a great job of this, but for bleepin jeepers who have no experience this is not that apparent. Thanks for the great vids, keep it up.

    As for the holes you cut in the bummer cut off about a 1/2" length of steel 1" dia. schedule 80 pipe to reenforce the bummer and weld it to the bummer. This will act just like a fender washer in thin sheet metal and carry distribute any load around the holes to prevent them from cracking...

      Like I mentioned in the video - That wasn't a problem or a design flaw in the bumper. With the right tools (air ratchet would have worked great) I wouldn't have done that. Probably won't do a video on it but check bleepinjeep's facebook page in a few days for my anti-theft idea. Thanks - Tim

      @bleepinjeep  9 років тому

      How does that Durango box work for you? My xj box does everything fine except at idle it has a hard time turning those 35s if I'm not moving. Steering upgrades are in the near future for sure. - Tim

    • @JeepingJohnIrwin
      @JeepingJohnIrwin 9 років тому +2

      Works great, i have 35's on my XJ and it wouldn't turn them at idle with the factory box. The durango box turns them easy at idle now. My stock boxes always leaked i guess due to over stressing them. I got mine out of a 98 durango with 4x4 and without the snow plow package - direct bolt on. Its slightly bigger than our stock box.

    Hey Tim, sucks ya had to drill through your bumper, but from the looks of the space it seems like you could have used a universal extension joint to get the bottom bolts for the winch on there, but that's coming from just watching the vid (may have been totally different from your view). Either way such a great vid! Learned a ton of how to take everything apart and great techniques on putting things the way you want them! Hope ya make some more vids!

    Why would you relocate the solenoid box especially when you may have $60 in wire to do it? New to winches and not sure why you would do that.

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  9 років тому +2

      A lot of people don't relocate the solenoids and never have a problem. I chose to put them in the engine compartment to keep them out of the elements as much as possible and to avoid submerging them should I find myself up to the winch in water. Also, with that box out of the way your radiator will get better air flow, plus I think it looks cleaner than having a tacky solenoid box on top of your winch. You're right on about the cable cost though, that hurt! - Tim

    Hey I really liked this video especially the remote solenoid install. I do have one question though. Shouldn't you be using a roller style Fairlead instead of the Hawse style Fairlead?

    • @JunkfoodZombieGuns
      @JunkfoodZombieGuns 9 років тому +1

      With a steel cable, yes. The cable on a hawse will work, but the cable will likely chew up the fairlead over time and any angled pulls will see a lot of friction and heat, neither of which is good for the cable. But, it will work in a pinch.

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  9 років тому +1

      Its easy to take the cap off and I will add an interior switch eventually. I have a master control box in the works that will house all my switches for different things. Waiting to get that figured out before I start running wires. For now, yeah I have to pop my hood but I can close it with the controller plugged in and reach the driver seat no problem. No big deal to me. Good observation though! - Tim

  • @travismcvey
    @travismcvey 9 років тому

    As always I enjoy the Bleepin Jeep videos but I have to point out that you're loosing a bit of power by moving the solenoid box to the opposite side of the engine bay. Would be best to keep it as close to the battery and the motor as possible. At the very least I would have upgraded the wires to 0 AWG to help with the extra distance in the power wires.

    Wrong fairlead for steel cable.

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  9 років тому +7

      Its a steel fairlead. You're right its not ideal. If it were an aluminum fairlead for synthetic cable I wouldn't even consider running it with steel cable but as long as I don't have a ton of off angle pulls it shouldn't be an issue. I plan on upgrading to a synthetic cable anyway down the road so cable ware isn't a huge concern to me. Plus I spent my money on new wire for the solenoid box instead of a roller fairlead :) - Tim
