The GT-1000 blows the stomp away IMO. You can run all 24 effects blocks at the same time and switch to a completely different preset with no latency. No need for snapshots and you can have way more complicated signal paths and effects running. Dual amps. Parallel signal chains within parallel signal chains… it’s ridiculous what you can do. Totally blows the stomp away
I've got the HX Stomp, and it sounds brilliant. I'm sure you could dial in identical sounds on either one if you fiddled enough, but the 24 blocks vs 8 is a massive advantage. Also the footswitch arrangements: hitting 2 buttons together to get the tuner on the boss, vs one dedicated tuner button on the stomp is another win for the boss, I think. When you only have 3 foot switches, flexibility is vital. I'm hoping Line 6 might bring out something the same size with a bigger screen and a lot more processing power. The DSP in the Stomp is getting quite dated now.
Bought a GT1000core to replace my strymon timeline , bogner la grange , and Tu3W on my board, i think this one is one of the best solution for ampless rig!
Just returned a Stomp. Waiting for a Core to come as an exchange. Tone on the Stomp was genuinely very good. I just couldn't get on with the different modes (stomp, preset, bank etc) and how difficult it is to switch between them without additional pedals. Hoping the double switch shortcuts on the Core to jump to manual mode will work better for me. A little concerned about the low number of amp models but usability is a big thing!
I play bass. The task arose to make sure that the processed bass guitar signal (EQ, compressor, amplifier, cabsim) goes to one channel, and effects based on the same signal go to the other channel (EQ, compressor, harmonization with a separate pedal, synthesizer with a separate pedal, amplifier, reverb, delay, cabsim). That is, in addition to the bass part, you can fill the space between the bass and the lead guitar with some additional sounds. And only the boss is good for this, because the stomp simply doesn't have enough blocks to do it all at the same time.
Nice review once again, thanks ,I prefered the sound of the GT1000 , it felt more vibrant to me ,and 23 amps is more than enough if the modelisations are good . I have a suggestion , It would be cool and informative if you included some high gain amps in your comparisons , cheers.
I own the GT-1000 and it does sound digital and fizzy on some amp models. You can hear it on this demo. It's still dragging along a little of that cocked wah sound from the GT-10 and GT-100. I think it can be tamed with a little knowledge of how to set up the output, eq and ir's. In this video the Line 6 Stomp sounded a little more natural but I think it has to do with voicing because it didn't sound like a true plexi either, just a good less shrill distortiion. It was still digital sounding too but not as much in the higher register like the Boss. I have heard that the feel of the Boss is more like playing a tube amp, but I really want to try a Helix LT and compare. Just like it's predecessors, the GT-1000 effects are great! The distortions, and overdrives sound more true and natural than the amp models. Hopefully Boss will update the amp models as technology gets better. The Core and Stomp are kinds pricey for such a small pedal with so few foot switches. Go for the full size GT-1000 or the Helix LT, especially if a multi-effects unit is going to be your main rig. I have owned the GT-8, GT-10, GT-100 and the GT-1000 and have had fun with them all. The GT--1000 is like the GT-100 but with the blanket taken off the speaker as it does sound more hi-fi. I think either unit in this video will work and sound fine though, especially if just being used for effects using the 4-cable method into a nice tube amp.
JamminJman, I currently have the Boss GT-10 and always felt a little disappointed in the clarity of the sound because of the cocked wah effect. I also noticed that it was present even when everything in the signal chain was turned off. The difference became apparent when I plugged my guitar directly into an audio interface vs. through the GT-10 and then into the interface. That being said, did you think the GT-1000 was a huge upgrade from the GT-10?
@@albertlee5439 It's way better than the GT-10. They aren't even in the same league. I have been learning more about this thing and with some patience it can be programmed to get some amazing tone. I have it running through a PA Amp and 2 old Genz Benz 1x12 guitar cabinets, so the tone is getting colored by that. I want to get a FRFR speaker and see how clear it will sound in comparison.
Who are you man? Professional level chops with exotic styles. Awesome editing and visual effects. And of course the Italian(?) accent. You are quite unique and super helpful.
Thank you, your compliments and appreciation really mean a lot to me! As regards the nationality, I've promised that I will reveal it as soon as I will get 10k subs (if ever)...:)
boss gt sounds more analog - as in the room. Line 6 sounds more processed - as in studio. Reall sonic difference. not like other things. my guess that boss feels better under fingers. a great comparison video bro. i would say the best so far i have seen.
Since the HX stomp has balanced outs, I’d have to go with that for live application. It sounded more processed though, the Boss sounded more realistic.
I agree with you. The signal chain options are great with the Boss. I am looking to simplify my gear (need another JMP-1? Kidding, I would not part with mine) and for my everyday situation including recording the Boss seems to be a much better and space saving solution. Ideally I want to just have one unit I can record directly with, be it to my Tascam DP-32 or to my Laptop. I also like the amp sounds of the Boss more than the HX Stomp. Thanks for comparing the two units, I was looking for a comparison like that. Your playing is great. You have gained another subscriber.
Great channel - but usually you don't meantion the possible snap shots on each units....and would nice if would have in your diagram unit capability to run direct in live show besides kitchen rehearsals
A very good video! I think that Boss Core sounds slightly better, and could be my favorite choice for recording, as i love to record two different signal paths of the same part. For live playing, maybe i'll choose the new Pod Go, 'cause it has more switch and the sound should be similar to the hx stomp. Greetings from Italy!
Nice review Leo!!I would like an effects comparison also though..Not just the amps..Delays, reverbs and modulation!Looking forward for you to get your Neural DSP Quad Cortex and putting it to the test with these units!!Be well!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Awesome demo as usual I’m thinking the overall tone goes to the Boss. Besides, you can always use a direct box for the front of the house.
Thanks for this really well done review! If you would have to choose one for making jazz clean tones(Fender like), which would you pick? Which one amp simulation do you prefer??? Have a nice day!!!! From Chile.
Hi, you are welcome, and I'm happy that you like the video! Well, both modellers are good for clean amp simulations...therefore for me they would be both ok for playing some jazz. Thank you for your question!
I have no dog in this fight, I am just impressed with what $600 can get you nowadays. I started in the late 80s, and $600 would get you maybe a decent guitar, or a low end tube amp. I think i paid around the same price for a pro-mag pickup for my acoustic, and a tascam, cassette 4 track. I have a kemper, along with my studio gear, and a few important pieces of gear i will never part with, so other than the usual impulse buys all of us music geeks cant seem to outgrow(for some reason i bought the Positive Grid Spark, it is complete junk), i am happy. But what an opportunity todays guitar players have to buy studio level gear, for such a small price. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Great review Leo. ‘Grande’. Ive used both at the same time, and ended up selling my HX stomp. I prefer the tonality of the GT1000Core over the HX. I prefer having more presets that i can then modify vs more amps. Its worth mentioning that it did take some work getting the out balance on the GT1000 to reduce hissing when I first set it up on an amp. (Two rock studio sig + Boogie Fillmore) un Saluto dal Canada
Great video, thanks Leo! Folks considering the GT-1000 core should be aware that the 24 blocks isn’t 24 of whatever you want (Boss marketing materials don’t make that clear, though it is clear in the manual). For example, four blocks are dedicated to delay, but are only of one type of delay (they can’t be switched to the many cool types of delays in the unit). This may be fine for many players, but if you are a person who wants a lot of freedom to experiment (as I’m doing with ambient sounds) you may want to read the GT-1000 core manual to understand how the 24 works before buying it. I found it a bit inflexible for my intended use. In a similar price range, I am looking into the Line 6 HX effects (different than the HX stomp Leo covered in this video-it has up to 9 blocks depending on DSP load of what effects are in use, but no amp models) as an alternative.
I was an early adopter of Line 6 digital processing (bought an AxSys brand new, then did the chip upgrade to make it an AX2 later). I always thought Line 6 gear sounded more accurate to vintage tones than the Boss “COSM” stuff, which sounded thin and fake in comparison. I did love the bulletproof reliability of Boss gear though, the effects were clean and great sounding, and the FX chain routing was 100x more flexible. But this new Boss AIRD tech sounds great. I was expecting the Line 6 amp/cab sims to blow the Boss versions away yet again. Nope. The GT1000’s tones sounded much better in the mix, which caught me by surprise. I currently use a GT10 in my pedal board, but the cab sims absolutely suck. If I were to get a GT1000C, I could route the output into the GT10 and use the old unit strictly for additional post FX and as a midi controller for the Core. Final verdict: Boss cab sims no longer suck. Their only enduring Achilles Heel is finally gone. Choosing between the two, the Core edges out the Stomp, IMO.
Hello Leo, great video as always. Love your style. Hard to tell which unit I like best... I would need only two or there great amps and many many many fx. Which one would be best for me? Thanks!
Well, to me, basic tone is everything - anything else can be "fixed" by DI Boxes etc. One big question I have is that with aging eyes which screen is easiest in real world use? By that I mean as opposed to kneeling on the floor at home trying to figure it out up close? Thanks for the great comparison, as someone else said it provides real food for thought. Pete.
Hi Pete, thank you so much and I'm happy that you like the video! Good point about the screen and the aging eyes....maybe that's the reason why I typically use the compute app...with big screens.... Thank you!
The amp comparisons were very different. The boss always sounding brighter with more presence. I am thinking about pairing my Strymon Iridium with an HX stomp for a very compact setup.
Hi Leo, good video. Thanks for your careful work, with competence and passion. Just a small question: is there a bank up / bank down in the core Gt 1000? Have a good time. Hello from Italy.
Thank you, really appreciated! Your feedbacks are super important for me! Having only 3 foot-switches I don't think there are banks. You can go up and down by one preset with the left and center switch....as far as I know. If someone has better info, please drop us a message here! Thank you!
Thanks Leo, very kind !! I don't understand Boss's choice but the unit looks very powerful and versatile. Now i'm owner of Mooer Ge 300, but his fx section don't like me very much: in your opinion boss and hx stomp are more better? Thank you again!! Bye
Hey Leo, did you used the same IRs for both?Man I think Boss Sounds better Line 6 interface is great and the easy use of it but the boss sounds more nature more horminic reach to my ear. To me Line 6 have a certain mid focus freq that makes it to sound small and the highs are not pleasant. Great Review Leo thanks so much for your review great as always!!!!
Thank you Jonathan, your appreciation is really important for me!!! In this video I've not used IRs, but just the internal cabs. Thank you for your message!
Exactly the comparison I was looking for. Love your channel! Which one would you pick to run a bunch of pedals into and use as an amp? Thanks for the awesome content!
This comparison was super helpful. I’m looking at the Boss GT1000 Core or possibly the MS3 to replace a Digitech RP360XP and tri parallel mixer, especially the MS3 can handle the routing mixing that the Tri Mic currently does for me. I’m wondering if the specific routing on the GT1000 Core is recalled on a preset basis. I’d love to be able to use it where some patches would use the sends and returns differently, in some cases not send while receiving and not necessarily receive when sending. The idea being I could use the sends as a splitter and the returns as a sub mixer which is basically how I use the tri mix in my setup
very difficult to choose...i wish if hx stomp had more fx blocks like gt 1k core...as a metal player i'll lean more towards hx stomp..beautiful intro instrumental playing n brilliant note selection as always
@@digoutyourMUSEsoul that'll be great..it'll be wonderful if line 6 comes up with an amp profiling technology like kemper, bias amp2 n mooer mnrs tech...line 6 will be unstoppable
Hello Leo, many thanks for your great video, very interesting and informative! I have a couple of questione regarding the missing balanced outs on the Boss (which is a real shame, I agree with you...): - what is your opinion by sending the Boss L/R outs signal to a good stereo passive DI box ? Of course I understand that it would be an extra cost to consider, and an extra cable connections/space on the pedalbord, but in my opinion the Boss could be really unbeatable this way... - also, what do think about using a stomp preamp. (which often has included a DI out) to be connected after the Boss L/R outs ? (I mean in substitution of a “pure” DI box). Many thanks for your answer!
Hi Roberto, thank you! Well, I don't have too much experience with DI boxes. Nevertheless, I will try to answer. > sending LR to a DI box: I think it would work, nevertheless for sure you need very short cable to connect the DI Box and you need a very good DI box that does not color the sound > Stomp preamp: I'm not convinced by the stomp preamp, as it would color the sound, and you are gonna loose the stereo out, unless you use two of them or a stereo one... In my opinion another solution would be to put 2 cab simulators after the GT 1000 (like a cab M) so that other than adding the XLR out, you are also adding mics, cabs, etc. I mean you adding value to this solution and you are not using it only as a DI...of course you are gonna spend more money... Thank you!
It would seem that running three paths on the boss with different mic placement on each would give the most realistic sound, and the Boss sounded better in the demo.
Hi Leo. Can the Boss Gt1000 Core audio output become muddy with so many effects in the chain? How many effects do you recommend in the chain on this unit? Thanks
Hi, well I don't use many effects. Typically I use overdrives, chorus delay and reverb. It is really a matter of taste, you can get pretty unusual sounds using many effects, that I would not define as muddy: you may like it or not, but for me, in some cases and for some songs or genres, they could be pretty useful. Thank you for your question!
My opinion is biased because I have the GT 1000 core on order. Anyone who likes the Line 6 better will probably have a good argument; it is an excellent device. Either one is great, but the Boss "Plexi" sound was more appealing to me. I also have several pedals that I would use with it, so I like the smaller power demand. I always enjoy your videos for the comparisons, the guitar playing, and the song compositions. Thanks again for your great work!
Grazie ancora!
To me Line 6 has always had a certain compressed middy sound to all their models. I think it works well in a mix and for recording but other modelers like the Boss and also Avid 11R/Headrush have a more open "in the room" sound to them. I currently have the HX and an older Avid Eleven Rack.
Hi Frank, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video!!! yes, it is an hard decision...take your time...and if you want, please tell us what you finally decide...it could hepl other guitarists to choose! Thank you!
Hello Leo, thanks a ton for the comparison! Would you come to the same conclusions about the Pod Go vs the GT1000CORE? I'm mostly interested to be used at home.
One important thing Leo : what do you think about the ease of use of the GT core without the apps ? Is it easy to modify during a rehearsal without apps or computer ? I clearly prefer the sound of the Boss but the easy of use of the Boss seems not-so-good compared to the Helix
Hi Leo, thanks. In case you know: I am trying a boss gtcore 1000 - is it correct that you cannot have two completely separate paths for the input R and the input L? Like, two different instruments plugged with two separate paths? I don't see how to separate them through he divider
Hi Rossella, good question...I'm not completely sure...but you should be able to do it using the send/return object in the signal chain and then using as an input for your instruments the returns of the GT 1000 core. Thank you!
I'm pretty sure that the Ampero Stomp II manages two independent signal chains. Not sure, but the regular Ampero manages only one signal chain. Thank you!
Great Video, I have been looking at upgrading to one of these, Ive tried a GT1000 core, but not the HX stomp. But I decided to go with th HX stomp, ordered it yesterday. It's great to have such a detailed video. Basically I think whichever you go for you won't be disappointed.
This is the best comparison video yet. I have the HX stomp on my live/fly board and was thinking about the GT1000C as a way of having tonal options in the studio with other drives - food for thought!
I forgot BOSS existed. I used their RV-5/6 before I could afford a BigSky, and their DD-3/5/7 before I got my TimeFactor. Also used to use their TU-2 before I got my polytune/polytune mini and their DS-1 was my first pedal ever.
@@LeoGibsonGtr no problem! I should add that with the 3.01 software update, the HX Stomp now has 8 blocks instead of 6. Also, I’ve powered it off both a Strymon Zuma and a Strymon Ojai R30. All I did was buy a $5 adapter cable on Amazon and it connects with 0 issue. Just information for you :-)
Thanks a lot for the cool video.I'm also torn between the HX Stomp and the GT-1000Core, but there are still a few things I wasn't able to find the information I'm looking for. Maybe you can help? I'm wondering how the 2 compare in terms of how well the harmonizer tracks (especially for the higher register of 6-String Bass), on the HX Stomp it seems to work quite nicely (so I heard). I've had some not so good experiences with Boss harmonizers back in the day. Did you try to program custom scales on the units, how well does that work? I'm also wondering about AUX IN on the GT, the handbooks says that you can use the loops as AUX IN. I'd really like to connect my cell phone to the unit, mainly for practice. Sorry for the many questions, but you seem to be very knowledgeable with both of these units :D
As always a great video. Actually I think both sound great. The HX Stomp was nice with only the Plexi, but when the GT 1000 Core had an additional TS 808 it sounded also great in the Demo Song and better than the Line6 in my Opinion.
Hi Dennis, thank you so much...I'm really happy that you like the video! Thank you also for sharing your opinion! ... overdrives effects in the modelers are pretty important...sooner or later I need to do a video about them....
Hi! The Line 6 is operating in 24bit /48 kHz, but not in 192 kHz, where from did you get this value? The dynamic and sound density of the BOSS is way better in my opinion. I checked them both - but i´m only a bass player ;-)
The HX sounds very clean, studio-like and I don't mean that in a good way. It's like it's been "beautified". I like when my sounds is about to go out of control, but that's me. I can see how the HX is a better option for some styles!
Thank you so much. This is one of the best UA-cam videos ever made. Soooo informative, and the demo song is also brilliant!!!!!

Hi, interesting! Thank you for sharing!
Grande comparativo, como sempre 👍
Thank you, your appreciation is really important for me!
Nice review once again, thanks ,I prefered the sound of the GT1000 , it felt more vibrant to me ,and 23 amps is more than enough if the modelisations are good .
I have a suggestion , It would be cool and informative if you included some high gain amps in your comparisons , cheers.
Hi, thank you really appreciated, thank you also for sharing your opinion and for your suggestion!
If the Boss’ outputs are buffered, which they probably are, there’s not much need for balanced outputs.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinions and experiences...interesting...
Well done Leo! That was a very precise and well done comparison!

Thank you Janis, both for the compliments and for sharing your opinion!!!
You make great comparison videos!
Thank you, your appreciation is really important for me!!!
Since the HX stomp has balanced outs, I’d have to go with that for live application. It sounded more processed though, the Boss sounded more realistic.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Nice comparison! I think that amps in the Boss sound better.
Thank you! Thank you also for sharing your opinion!

Thanks for this really well done review! If you would have to choose one for making jazz clean tones(Fender like), which would you pick? Which one amp simulation do you prefer???

Hi, you are welcome, and I'm happy that you like the video!
Well, both modellers are good for clean amp simulations...therefore for me they would be both ok for playing some jazz.
Thank you for your question!
I think the boss sounds a bit more “direct” but currently in the uk, hi stomp = £399 and get core = £599 so I would definitely go for the stomp
Hi, thank you for sharing you opinion and the UK prices of the two units!
I love the accent 😁 good video.
Thank you, I'm happy that you like the video!!!
Hi Mike, yes, I do agree!!!! The value for money we are getting today is really high!
Thank you for sharing your opinion and experience!

I prefer the Boss GT but the line6 is very good as well.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Both units are really great, finally “money talks” and the price is better on the HX Stomp
Hi Erick, thank you for sharing your opinion! Yes, money are an important factor to take into consideration!
that's weird, in Australia the hx stomp is more expensive
Just use the same IR...thats why they sound different.
That would ruin the point of the gt-1000. The GT is made for use with its aird technology
Hi Edward, thank you for sharing your opinions and your interesting experience!

Hello Leo, great video as always. Love your style. Hard to tell which unit I like best... I would need only two or there great amps and many many many fx. Which one would be best for me? Thanks!
Hi, thank you!!!
Well the Boss has less amps but a more flexible fx signal chain...
Very informative. Subscribed!
Thank you, your sub really means a lot to me!!!
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion and experience!
Hi Leo, good video. Thanks for your careful work, with competence and passion. Just a small question: is there a bank up / bank down in the core Gt 1000?

Hello from Italy.
Thank you, really appreciated! Your feedbacks are super important for me!

Exactly the comparison I was looking for. Love your channel! Which one would you pick to run a bunch of pedals into and use as an amp? Thanks for the awesome content!
Hi Daniel, with pedal I would get the Core, as it requires less power and I would be able to use just one power brick.
Thank you for your message!
Both sounds Great still I go for the Boss Gt1000 Core. 😎🤘

Hello Leo, many thanks for your great video, very interesting and informative!
I have a couple of questione regarding the missing balanced outs on the Boss (which is a real shame, I agree with you...):
- what is your opinion by sending the Boss L/R outs signal to a good stereo passive DI box ? Of course I understand that it would be an extra cost to consider, and an extra cable connections/space on the pedalbord, but in my opinion the Boss could be really unbeatable this way...
- also, what do think about using a stomp preamp. (which often has included a DI out) to be connected after the Boss L/R outs ? (I mean in substitution of a “pure” DI box).
Many thanks for your answer!
Hi Roberto, thank you!
Well, I don't have too much experience with DI boxes. Nevertheless, I will try to answer.
> sending LR to a DI box: I think it would work, nevertheless for sure you need very short cable to connect the DI Box and you need a very good DI box that does not color the sound
> Stomp preamp: I'm not convinced by the stomp preamp, as it would color the sound, and you are gonna loose the stereo out, unless you use two of them or a stereo one...
In my opinion another solution would be to put 2 cab simulators after the GT 1000 (like a cab M) so that other than adding the XLR out, you are also adding mics, cabs, etc. I mean you adding value to this solution and you are not using it only as a DI...of course you are gonna spend more money...
Thank you!
SEI UN GRANDE! GRAZIE
Grazie a te! Il tuo messaggio mi fa veramente piacere!
It would seem that running three paths on the boss with different mic placement on each would give the most realistic sound, and the Boss sounded better in the demo.

I have a boss GT 100. Having either of these how do you access so many different sounds with on the fly with only a couple of stomp buttons?
Hi, yes, this is a limitation. But you can overcome this issue with an external midi controller.
Thank you for your message!
Did Line 6 purposely remove the adjustable A. I. R. settings in the HX Stomp as some sort of cost cutter?

One important thing Leo : what do you think about the ease of use of the GT core without the apps ? Is it easy to modify during a rehearsal without apps or computer ? I clearly prefer the sound of the Boss but the easy of use of the Boss seems not-so-good compared to the Helix
Hi, well, in terms of easiness the BOSS is not the best option...I think. The app, that you can use live, helps a lot...

I've had some not so good experiences with Boss harmonizers back in the day. Did you try to program custom scales on the units, how well does that work? The HX sounds very clean, studio-like and I don't mean that in a good way. It's like it's been "beautified". I like when my sounds is about to go out of control, but that's me. I can see how the HX is a better option for some styles!
