  • In this video we will learn how to show SharePoint List Image Columns in a Power BI Report. Since the actual image is not saved in the image column, just using that column will not work.
The column is made out of a bunch of key:value pairs that provide the necessary information of where the actual image is stored. With a little bit of data transformation in Power Query, we can put together a dynamic Image URL that Power BI can use to go and fetch our image for each row.

Great video, thanks. I found out a built-in power bi function that automatically transforms JSON into columns: "parse JSON" in 'add column' section of Power Query. I think it can be easier than manually split the columns.

tried that, yet correct url is often not gathered from the SharePoint - apart the few correct links I'm getting nulls in most of the cases
    any idea why?

Never had that issue to be honest, how does the "incorrect url" look like?

If they have access to the SP List where the images come from, they should. Why don’t just try it out?

Hi many thanks for your help it help me get setup a few months back.
Unfortunately there appears to be a new update that means images in secure sites like sharepoint and onedrive will no longer display in power bi visuals.
It was working fine for months until this update occurred.
Please let me know if you work out a work around for this as have already setup a system depending on images in sharepoint
    Quote from ms article:
‘The URL must be anonymously accessible, not on a site that requires a sign-in, such as SharePoint or OneDrive for work or school.’

Hi, is the message visible in Power BI Service? So it happenes after publishing right, not in PBI Desktop?

Just managed to sort it. Looks like was a permissions issue.
I seitched from cloud connection to gateway connection and started showing the images again

Hi Enea, that's great and functional, but i have one question, if i want to publish my report (website public) i can´t see the picture, and i don´t know why? can you help me with that, please :(

    • @Enea
      @Enea  8 місяців тому +1

The answer is in your question, website public. The images are saved in SharePoint and that storage is not public. The users need to have credentials and access. That will not work my friend, your storage needs to change

but, what if i change the sharepoint configuration? for everybody can see it, no just the users who credential?@@Enea

I don’t think that is even possible. Then everyone in the world would be able to access that SharePoint site. Just googled a bit and did not find anything helpful
