In 1996 they changed many fundamental things, like the understanding of guru in ISKCON. Before 1996 the teachings in ISKCON agreed with Krishna and Prabhuapda, that the guru is a pure devotee, that if you want to know the truth yourself have to approach a self realized soul because he has seen the truth. [Bg 4.34]. So in 1996 ISKCON rejected this concept and now they clam anyone can be a guru, self-realization is not necessary, Guru is just a service, like pot washing, anyone can do it, there are no qualifications except surreder to the GBC. So that is the difference between ISKCON now and ISKCON pre-1996. Prior to 1996 they were still preaching the same philosophy that Prabhuapda and Krishna present. But now ISKCON has a new, fundamentally different, philosophy they are preaching. But politics, it will always be there... But dead, yes. ISKCON is dead now, because they have rejected the parampara understanding of the philosophy and have concocted their own new "improved" version of Krishna consciousness. Thus they are disconnected from the disciplic succession and now a dead branch of the Caitanya tree.
