This video was shot in 4K and audio was recorded with top quality, but since there's Tom Waits present in it, the end result automatically looks and sounds like this.
@@williamweber6843 Tom Waits is a primordial embodiment of societal and urban decay, and his eldritch power degrades the reality around him to reflect this horror more effectively.
Gawd I love his live act. It's so much darker than the studio recordings. His live rendition of "What's He Building In There" is enough to leave you with nightmares.
How can something sound so horrifying and yet... be so fun to listen to? Damn I wish we had a studio recording of this version. Blows the version on Rain Dogs out the water 😔
Long life for Tom Waits, may he become 100 years...He is just one thing....an artist....the best evolution that can achieve in this World....this world, that will and must die, sincerely, Joey Jannax
From what I can grasp from the mysterious extra verse Uncle bill threw out his pills And he drank his life away And he fell face down on a shot glass And he never made it out to play. Could easily be wrong, I'm just guessing from performing myself sometimes when your Brain slips ya make up lyrics on the spot
Deep down I wish I wasn't born then! I'd be a lot younger and my left knee wouldn't be giving me so much gyp. Really glad I saw him though - I've loved him since I saw him perform Tom Traubert and Small Change on the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977. A brilliant songwriter and a superb performer. I hope you get to see him.
My father (RIP) would be about 101 now. I think if he saw this at first he'd be like WTF and then he'd become a biiig fan. Well I like to think so anyway.
Does no one else notice an extra verse in this version? Seriously, not one other comment? I can't quite make it out but it occurs just after Uncle Phil's Verse but before Uncle Violet. If anyone can figure out what he's saying, I'm dying to know.
+MeanWhiles He uses alternative lyrics in the part where he normally sings: "Uncle Phil, can't live without his pills and the tumor is as big as an egg." Unfortunately I can't make out what he's singing.
Very probably I'll never meet the the 'man' … well … that's life … but he's still the 'over-lord' … it would be nice to cross some words with him …. for sure
It's like the carnival came to town, only they forgot the clowns and brought the apocalypse instead.
Love this comment
fucking brilliant comment.
Mulberryspark love this comment!
❤️
True. But now Trudeau is the clown and all the followers lol
I’ve listened to this song damn near a hundred times and this version of it blows the original out of the water. This is fucking brilliant
Yes!!!! They style of playing the instruments alone is something that is a lost art
This video was shot in 4K and audio was recorded with top quality, but since there's Tom Waits present in it, the end result automatically looks and sounds like this.
😁
4K was not even in the English vocabulary in 1985. Everything was analog using video tubes. You can see the video tape streaking in the video.
@@williamweber6843 This was very obviously a joke, mate.
I fail at British humor or lack there of. I am not your mate. Seek a queer of your liking.@@nickzardiashvili624

Is that not the coolest backing band and the coolest man ever to be on the same stage?
Tom just seems to perfect the feeling of a sort of Devils carnival so well without any mention of a circus in this . Love love love :)
At first there was death metal, and now there's death-polka.
Hehehehe
I can't believe I used to think Marilyn Manson was edgy.
Gawd I love his live act. It's so much darker than the studio recordings. His live rendition of "What's He Building In There" is enough to leave you with nightmares.
he certainly creates an emotional response
Oh my...This is the best performance of this song!!!
His voice is a primary instrument
I come back to this performance so much. One of my favorite live videos by far.
Imagine sending this as your video app for an Australian festival or an Australian agent!!! You'd be black listed forever.
I think I account for 2,500 of the 42,000 views this video has. What an unbelievable song.
reminds me of stale wine inside a pirate ship
is that a lyric

Saw him at the Dominion in London in October 1985, performing this; what a mesmeric artist - a fantastic gig.
Hard to get a lyric better than: He's a big shot - down at the slaughterhouse, he plays the accordion for Mr. Weiss.
Long life for Tom Waits, may he become 100 years...He is just one thing....an artist....the best evolution that can achieve in this World....this world, that will and must die, sincerely, Joey Jannax
Props to Tom and the percussionist. They both look entirely in their element.
The percussionist is Victor Feldman!.
So deliciously demented, joyfully aggressive, creepily awesome!
This would fit perfectly in a Berlin cabaret about 1925! Wonderful.
From what I can grasp from the mysterious extra verse
Uncle bill threw out his pills
And he drank his life away
And he fell face down on a shot glass
And he never made it out to play.
Could easily be wrong, I'm just guessing from performing myself sometimes when your Brain slips ya make up lyrics on the spot

Saw this first time around live on the Friday 'Tube' programme in U.K. He certainly shook them up.
yes. the lamp is very important :-)
I love it when Tom Waits channels Brecht/Weill.
HOLY SHIT this performance is incredible. So much more powerful than the original.
Still one of my all-time favorite performances of his.
I still prefer this version to the album
I love Tom Waits❤
'Unique' doesn't quite cut it when describing Tom to a friend. Better they have a listen.
really atmospheric, the percussionist has a ball! Great stuff, so creepy.
Someone can tell me the secret to have a day without listen to Tom Waits? I can't ... really im trying really hard. HELP
+El-Etgüin Corrales Why on earth would you want to??
good point :|
This version is much more... beefheartian.
Alberto Rossi shut up idilt
Alberto Rossi educate yourself you fool
It has a depraved quality, Alberto Rossi.

Love the beat, easy to dance to…
youre lucky I wasnt even born then!! I hope I get to see him one time :(
It's like the beginning of a carnival, so it's like death metal. My ears and heart knew this even though it was the first time I heard it.
This version is much better than the album
Incredible men!!!
two drummers-legendary!
Fanbloodytastic!!!! Good old Tom ...
Great rendition!
A lot of the audience was probably like WTF but all I can think about is how lucky they were!
Brilliant
Stunning
best. version. ever.
my spirit left my body for the last 3:51 to go visit a carnival in the underworld
やっぱ トム サイコー!
誰も追いつけねェぜ
god I have excellent taste in music and heros
What a fucking legend.
Another fine artist being his own:)
Fuckin' brutal
I loved this guy in Mystery Men.
The musical genious
Best there is.
simplesmente show
yeah tommy
@modem9000 - I believe the video is called Cemetary Polka as well.
super
WOW!
Tom waits created death metal...
I'd love to see the rest of the show this was taken from. Anyone know if it's available (here or elsewhere)?
My father (RIP) would be about 101 now. I think if he saw this at first he'd be like WTF and then he'd become a biiig fan. Well I like to think so anyway.
I believe the video is called 'Cemetary Polka', it's just an animated video following the lyrics of this song.
so sick
@CarlSagan0101 - Is it the lamp or the fringed shade? Something's making this brilliant, whatever it is.
and i wasn't born for another three years...why!!!!!damnit!!!why?!!??!?!?
Seninle birlikte bağıra çağıra vura kıra söylemek vardı bu şarkıyı toom.
Dude, did you hear this on that one Albino Black Sheep video? I used to love that video and I love this song.
When was this done? Year and show if anyone knows. Wonderfully twisted!
Does no one else notice an extra verse in this version? Seriously, not one other comment? I can't quite make it out but it occurs just after Uncle Phil's Verse but before Uncle Violet. If anyone can figure out what he's saying, I'm dying to know.
Sounds like a rock concert
What ABS video uses this song?
Fuckin hell:o scariest music ever!
@SchizophobicBand whats the name of the video with this sing?
Does this remind anyone of that Heffalumps & Woozels song?
Crowd looks terrified stiff.
Feel like guitarist didnt ever played a powerchord in his life
Correct me if Im wrong but does he sing an extra verse not in the original lyrics? If so can someone decipher and jot it down for me?
+MeanWhiles He uses alternative lyrics in the part where he normally sings: "Uncle Phil, can't live without his pills and the tumor is as big as an egg." Unfortunately I can't make out what he's singing.
+Seymour Sachs i really want to know what he says there. i've watched this video probably 100 times and i still have no idea
"Uncle Phil can't live without his pills/He has emphysema and he's almost blind"
No that one was in the original
Very probably I'll never meet the the 'man' … well … that's life … but he's still the 'over-lord' … it would be nice to cross some words with him …. for sure
The universe would be better if Tom Waits was the conductor
@Icco2011 okay I'm a big Waits fan, but how the fuck do you dance to that?
Think Swan Lake ballet with two broken legs when drunk.
24 people weren't independent as a hog on ice
Uncle Vernon? The same one of Harry Potter?
Killer.
Is that a mellotron?
@SchizophobicBand Yeah, that's why I went looking for this.
too much autotune.
this is live dip shit not recorded

Or maybe just scotch.
