thank you for the detailed review!! while i am not a hiker, the front pocket definitely appeals to me as a university student in the PNW so i can have a quiet way to remove things from my bag in class. i have only used timbuk2 messenger bags and i hate how loud the velcro is but it is the only brand i knew that has high quality rainproof bags that would hold up in the rain here!! definitely going to consider this one now
That weird hip belt is perhaps for when you cycle with the bag. A shoulder bag tends to swing forward. Often bags have a second strap like timbuk2 uses to make a cross. But it seems that only using that strap might be stable enough.
I think this is bag is going to be really popular. I've been looking for a messenger bag of this size (not using it to carry a laptop) that had a zipper top as opposed to the usual flap and buckles and this is one of the few that does that without being a large briefcase bag.
True, this bag already served many purpose, own laptop compartment, lightweight, many pockets, double water bottle pocket, and loops for hanging carabiner.
My one must-have for a bag this size is a WATER BOTTLE SLEEVE -- and lo and behold, very few bags have them. "Yeah just stuff your water bottle inside with your other items and electronics." That's a no from me. Bought this bag, it's on its way.
The one thing that topo does really well, they failed to do here. Where is the hi vis interior? Not only does the black on black mess up the video, but it sucks to dig through an all black bag!

If you need to carry a bike helmet you could always attach a Deuter helmet bungy to this bag. It has loads of attachment points

Definitely a valid note! I know they have other color ways on this bag. I think it’s yellow on the inside of other options but not 100% sure.
